Harryhausen films are so beautiful. Big inspiration of mine
May Harryhausen rest in peace. He will be forever remembered for his hard work on all that puppet stop motion for the films he worked on.
When I heard the name Ray Harryhausen I kept thinking of the restaurant in Monsters Inc. maybe that was a possible nod to the stop motion legend
Oh Shoot I Actually Remember That
The Fresh Resh of Nowhere it was.
Jason and the Argonauts is one of my favorite films of all time. The incredible stop motion animation just highlights such a steller production as a whole. Intelligent characters, perfectly paced story, all coming together that makes it feel like it's taken right from the pages of Greek Mythology.
Ray Harrihausen is my biggest inspiration for writing fantasy fiction. Without him, I would not be so keen on bringing tales of heroes and monsters to life as I am now. I hope he rests in peace, as he has made an amazing contribution to this world.
My favorite part about this look back is Animat isn’t just talking about just the monsters Ray Harryhausen made. He actually talks about the plots of the movies and Ray Harryhausen’s life.
PERCY FLYING HIS MAGICAL PEGASUSSSS
Ray Harryhausen is still the best of all time imo, The work he had to put in to make the Magic come to life was amazing! CLASH OF THE TITANS will always and forever be my a favorite movie!
R.I.P. Ray Harryhausen
As a babyboomer I was lucky to have seen most of Harryhausens movies in theaters. Back then the classics were frequently re-released. The magic really happens when you see them on the big screen. Well, being 8 years old also helped a bit, I guess. Anyway, those are memories I'll treasure til I die. I hope his films will live on and be cherished, despite the technical advances in special effects. They deserve it.
The effects might be obsolete, but the magic will always remain.
You forgot about his name used in Monster's Inc. The Chinese food restaurant they go to is called, "Harryhausens" because of the monsters he made.
I knew that was something important
WOO! BROOK! Love that character.
For me, its LITERALLY the first time that I heard his name
@@chicofnaf7114 Hey first Ray Harryhausen made Stop Motion Animated Dinosaurs 🦖 now Mythical Creatures for his next movie The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad (1974) but why not Ray Harryhausen should sold his drawling picture of Dinosaurs 🦖 for the Modern day filmmakers like Producer Walter Hill Ivan Riteman writer Chris Columbus & Philip Kaufman and Director Don Coscarelli for the film sequel The Goonies 2 (which it should been filmed in 1986 before it will be released in theaters 🎭 in March 1987 that will be interesting if they will called it The Goonies 2 In Search Of The Primeval Island 🏝 that might be intense!) so that way Ray Harryhausen will draw ✍️ a pictures of Dinosaurs 🦖 and Giant Apes 🦍 so he can send them to the modern day filmmakers in the 1980’s!
sorry to be offtopic but does someone know a tool to get back into an instagram account??
I was dumb lost my account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
Aww...that's cute ray gave his daughter the gwangi puppet, I'm sure I would want all those puppets if my dad did this for a living. That's one thing I didn't know he did.
You can tell Tom Hanks really loved that movie
21:00 Since Animat's opinion of the 2010 Clash of the Titans remake got in the way, allow me to tell you a bit about that movie. During production of the film, the writers originally wanted it to be cheesy. But then, another writer who was a fan of the original COTT wanted it to be dark and realistic. Louis Leterrier, the director of that movie, even tried to get some support from Ray Harryhausen. Sam Worthington, the actor of Perseus wasn't so sure about being in the movie because he didn't grow up with the original. But he took the role anyway because he wanted to make a Clash of the Titans for his nine-year-old niece's generation. As for the owl, they debated on including it because they didn't think it was necessary for the story. In the end, they gave it a cameo anyway for nostalgic purposes.
In 2013, Leterrier admitted that the movie was a distaster, especially its forced 3D conversion. This is what he said: "It was famously rushed and famously horrible. It was absolutely horrible, the 3D. Nothing was working, it was just a gimmick to steal money from the audience. I’m a good boy and I rolled with the punches and everything, but it’s not my movie". Good thing he's done better works like directing the Incredible Hulk 2008 and the Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
As for Wrath of the Titans, it recieved even worse reviews than its predecessor. Nothing was learned from the 3D converison mistake and Louis Leterrier was perhaps so embarassed that he didn't want to direct it, leaving Jonathan Liebesman as the director. While the first one was a fine box office success, the second one not so much. A third movie called "Revenge of the Titans" was planned but because of the critical failure of the other two movies and the writers has too few ideas, they scrapped it. Liebesman would later be the same guy who directed the first Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
Great videos. I shared both parts with my boy, who has my passion for stop motion. I'm a little teary eyed. sniff
6:04 So, the whole project was going along nicely, when suddenly RKO OUTA NOWHERE!!!!!!
To be honest, Dynamation could also probably have stood for "Dynamic animation" since he was able to make things that weren't even there at first appear to be in the foreground as well as the background.
The fancy restaurant in Monster Inc. is named after him.
SEO Toy Review Really?! I have never heard of that
you mean Harryhausen's?
Wow thanks for sharing this video it's interesting to see how stop motion animation started & how much work goes in to making a film this definitely needs to be preserved & treasured this art of filming.
"Oh. I do apologize. I'll be on my way then." **boat walks away**
7:29 Then Elsa is like "... I froze my kingdom....." And Pinkie is like "CUPCAKES"
My girlfriend loves Pinkie Pie
The very first movie promotion I remember as a kid was for the movie Mighty Joe Young. It was only years later that I realized the promotional materials referred to the movie... which I eventually saw and so enjoyed!!! Grew up loving the Harryhausen films!!!!!!
"Didn't make it to the cutting room floor." Err... that's not quite the expression.
amazing. just amazing
I actually cried when I heard Ray died! (Hey, I made a rhyme!) Thanks for uploading the second part of Ray Harryhausen, AniMat. This really makes a tribute to him! (sheds a tear).
I do enjoy the remake of Clash of the Titans and it’s sequel for two reasons and two reasons only. Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes.

As "The Duke of Artz" Ray Harryhausen is Living Stopmotion Animation Legend.
This presentation is actually very very good and very respectful to Ray Harryhausen and his legacy of great artistry. But for me, with much respect to the presentation, I could’ve used a little less sarcasm in some of extra comments and interjections. But to be sure it is indeed for me one of the best presentations of Ray Harryhausen’s great works.
great hi-def quality in this piece------bravo!
Elsa, Pinkie Pie, and Tex Rex... that's not so strange. What would be better? If you add Freaky Fred and and Mad Hatter
PERCY! FLYING AROUND IN HIS MAGICAL PEGASUS! Hahahaha!
Your tone sounded like Big Al from South Park! LOL!
Gwangi part in tea party was so fucking funny! Specially using Rite of Spring and Night on Bald Mountain(My 2 favourite parts of the movie) references!
"Ymir! can you pass me the cookies?"
"nah! these cookies are great, miss Harryhausen knows what she's doing"
"DON'T MAKE ME EAT YOU"
"okay, okay, fine...what a killjoy"
it was so cringe
All those movies seems fun. I might do a maraton on them all.
11:33 forever scared for life
But somehow got a chuckle (sorry)
am I the only one who wants Animat to make Gwangi a recurring character? his take on how Gwangi would sound is amazing, if possible, he should pair him with Ymir
Great job on this great documentary!
In Loving Memory of Ray Harryhausen. (June 29, 1920 - May 7, 2013)
Do you know what's ironic, many of the companies that made Ray's stop-motion effects obsolete were founded by people who were inspired by him. In other words, Ray Harryhausen was a victim of his own success.
1:44 How the fridge did you do that? that was frigging amazing.
harryhausen ism my idol and hero
My father made me watch the skeleton fight scene from Jason when I was about 4. It scared the shit outta me. Now, 24 years later, I feel like watching the entire movie :D
I really want to make a film or series that uses "dynamation" in tribute to Harryhausen and O'Brien's works, but I don't know if I have the patience for it. I definitely don't have the equipment for it. : (
Martin Tony It would be very awesome to see more movies like that, you can do it someday, just believe in yourself or some other uplifting message like that.
In fact, I do got an idea for the film about a punch of people try to survive on the island filled with creatures in which will a homage for B-Movies from the 50s or 60s and also for Ray Harryhausen and Willis O'Brien.
Loved all his movies as a kid , they filled me with wonder and aw of fantasy and adventure as an adult I find CGI leaves me cold and indifferent , probably Avatar was the best Ive seen that can compare to Harrys
Its unfortunate that Valley of Gwangi was a flop. I think its one of Ray's Best!
13:39 Im koo koo for Choca Puffs 13:49 Silly rabbit Trix are for kids only
If you were watching this on Tubi it’s probably the same
21:00 favorite part of the lookback
I must correct myself; the Battle with Kaali is also one of Ray's best. It cost a fortune, but I found a life size, 7 foot statue of Kaali with swords that stands in my front foyer and scares the shit out of kids on Halloween.
Fun Fact: The skeletons from Jason And The Argonauts were inspiration of the character "Spinal" from the Killer Instinct video game series.
I remeber as a kid I watch the hell out of sinbad and anything by ray harryhausen , and it got me into mythology
Thanks for uploading! Now post Will Vinton, Blip and Mr. Coat just no longer work for me.
My cousin actually had this G.I Joe action figure that she would use for her tea parties. He was always the butler.
That is hilarious
Take a shot of vodka every time the narrator says "actually". You'll be drunk in less than ten minutes.
25:13 wait... The same guy who directed animal House was inspired by Ray harryhausen!!! (Learn something new everyday)
Clash of the titans is my number 1 favorite of ray harryhausen movies 💝
I think Jason & The Argonauts is a fun film to watch.
Lol, the close captions part was pretty funny.
This WAS Ray's best work, if a film could be called that! I just got through spending more than $2,500.00 making a diorama of the skeleton battle in the temple.
Good job on this
For the teeth thing, I wished you would've used the scene from Finding Nemo where the dentist accidentally pulls the patient's tooth out
well done mate
am i the only one who thinks that stop motion animation is more fun to watch than cgi?

Put the history of Phil Tippet`s animation next
11:33 that sounds like it's gotta hurt.
Dare to make a cartoon network look back
Hey! I got what the captions read just now! HA HA HA!
You forgot to mention that Pacific Rim was decided to Ray Harryhausen alongside Ishiro Honda.
0:05 on the mysterious island poster I saw a green snake like haire man with a trident and I emidelitly thought of a snippet of a movie I saw when I was younger, I always thought it was an old movie about Atlantis and I wanted to watch it so I went all over the place looking hopefully it's it, the scene I saw was of a guy in the water facing a giant posiden like thing with a boat being on fire
1:44 guest animation by Terry Gilliam
I wish you hadn't skipped the harpies in Jason & the Argonauts. It seems like their design is related to the "bat devils" that didn't make it into Sinbad.
Please tell me you'll be doing Rankin Bass for December!
11:32 ouch
Not to offend any people who like Ray Harryhausen, which I kind of do, is it that we really like Ray's movies or do we really watch the films just for the creatures in the film and really don't care about the story and characters. That's the feeling I'm starting to get because not many people nowadays don't remember these movies anymore and just fade into obscurity and be only known by filmmakers and film buffs. That's why I didn't see any TV news in the U.S. that even mention Ray Harryhausen.
Tyler Rakstis agreed, the rest of his films was great but the characters could use some work and it is sad people are forgetting about these types of films.
GET THAT SHIP OUTTA HERE
YOU'RE IN THE WRONG CENTURY
24:46 ray no 😢😢😢😢
2:30 : Firelink shrine low level graveyard run gone wrong..... joking aside the first video I bought was jason and the argonauts and pretty much shaped my entire view of movies animation and entertainment you can even compare anime like one piece to being Argonauts like.
First of all the "Little Horsey" is actually a Hyracotherium. And second of all ,Gwangi was originally meant to be a lizard or bear like creature like the artwork you shown here. Other than this you got everything right!
Jason and the Argonauts was NOT the first Harryhausen film released theatrically that was not double billed. Sinbad and Gulliver and Mysterious Island were also released "solo" not billed with another film. And Gulliver had its premiere in London as a Royal Premiere with Queen Elizabeths' family in attendance! And all 3 of those films were also playing in prestigious first run theaters. Get your facts right!
It's that time of year how about the polar express who's with me
I don’t know if you will be able to at some point, but could you do a segment about Phil Tippett And his “go motion” method?
May 7th....? That's my birthday....? and he died on 2013?.....now this is just too sad.....:'(...
You know funny enough since Tom Baker The 4th doctor was in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad another former Dr Who actor was in fact in Sinbad & the eye of the Tiger The late Patrick Troughton as Melanthius yeah I not even kidding.
That is a fact bud. I point that out in the past to my wife and friends
When you were talking about what is going on now i thought well gee maybe he's still alive BUT then when you said he passed away I said I stand corrected.
Though I did see the Jason myth on the Library Video version, and I'll point out the differences. Pelias was actually Jason's uncle, Media is King Aetee's daughter and a sorceress instead of a priestess who betrayed her king. And encounters were different in order After arriving to Aetee's kingdom Jason fought the skeleton army of the Dragon's teeth, before he gets the Golden Fleece from the dragon by making it drink a sleeping potion. After Jason ran away with the Fleece they go to Crete and encountered Talos. Though one problem I have with Ray's films is why does he have most of his women play as damsels in distress, is he against women being heroes. Though I haven't seen every Harryhausen movie so your free to point out some things I may have done wrong. Though I thought the remake of Clash was OK,but AniMat you got to stop being biased and prejudiced about reboots, because the real idiot-fest was the critics themselves.Their the real people that insult our intelligence and calls us dumb. Just ignore critical thinking and enjoy for what the movies is. YOU STILL OWE ME FOR PANNING TIM BURTON'S ALICE AND MALEFICENT, serious your becoming the real dumb one,and the real insulting one as much of an insult to my likings as much as Doug Walker! especially when you consider Doug Walker as a hero, when in my view, Doug's the Villain. my archenemy, and the bane of my existence!!!! Screw you critics spawned of Roger Ebert and Doug Walker! I apologize for that but I'm being serious,NO MORE BIASED OPINIONS ON REBOOTS!!!! Back to Ray, it was a little shocking for me to that Ray passed away(heh, made a rhyme). Heck, I was actually going to send a letter to him, but I waited too long.
"Purse-eus!" Lol
I have done some work in stop motion so 14 frames a day must of been a pain in the ass
I have to make one other quibble: Stygian is pronounced like "STIDJ-ian", as in, related to the River Styx. They even pronounce it like that in the movie.
As much as I enjoy these History Of documentaries i do find he mispronounces a lot of these words. Another example is the Sir Francis Drake ship the Golden Hind(e) which rhymes with ‘’mind”, “find”, “grind” or “signed”. It not Hind as in “binned”, “sinned”, or “twinned”. Still, it’s a minor bug bear in the overall scheme of things. His research is frequently well done except on words he doesn’t recognise or understand.
11:33 ouchy
Holy hell..will Venton part just gotten taken down!
What do you think it would be like if ray made a Godzilla movie
ray harry hausen the best good between majec and true
The Omni Viewer had a video saying that a group or someone wish to bring Force of the Trojans to life and if it happens and it's a success then maybe they might also bring the other projects that Ray planned but never made to life as well and if it happens, then it would be an ideal way to pay tribute to Ray Harryhausen rather than a horrible remake that spites at him.
5:28 how the fridge
I know that this was made before it came out. But the kraken from clash of the Titans appeared in Lego batman movie.
Sinbad on Mars?!!!!
Obsolete? I've seen 1995 films with stopmotion effects!
I thought that, in CLASH OF THE TITANS that they asked a young Hillary Clinton to play the part since she would not need any make-up.
