I love how 80% of the video is about Ukraine. As a Pole i think that euro was a huge marketing succes, even though a lot of investments weren't made in time for the tournament, and I believe the biggest controversies were how highways were build on private lands which shockingly were owned by some politicians and so they could earn money on selling them. And the other one was that most companies that built stadiums went bankrupt because they couldn't bare the cost of repairs after the tournament.
the video is 80% about Ukraine because that's the reason it even happened - it was Ukrainian multimillioners power play to bid for the Euro 2012 and the host the Euros. We just got to play along. At least that's the version that Jerzy Dudek provided whatever time ago (seems reasonable enough for to trust).
In grand scheme of things it could've been worse - in Brazil, they've built 60,000+ seat stadium (Brasilia or Manaus) just for the World Cup, which now serves as a parking spot.
Imo in Poland we care only about highways and if we can maybe win our group in that time xD

I think judging a country by their football fans is never a good idea. Here in the UK we have a lot of racist, homophobic and antisemitic behaviour from football fans, and it’s generally defended as “just a bit of banter”. Like the Spurs fan who threw a banana at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and said in his defence he just picked up the nearest thing to throw and it happened to be a banana, or the West Ham fans who verbally abused a Jewish passenger on a plane to Belgium.

Not a Euro, but arguably one of the most (if not the most) controversial football tournaments has got to be the 2002 World Cup. Especially with all the referee bribing involved, including a ref that would go on to be caught smuggling drugs a few years later 😂 Would make up a good video

As a Portugal fan this Euro literally broke my heart. I knew Spain was the team to beat but we had made it out of the group of death with only a 1-0 loss to Germany and I thought we could go all the way. Yeah Spain was the best team, but any of the semi-finalists had a good chance

As a Czech, I must say that EURO 2012 was one of the greatest championships of all times. The memories from there are simply extraordinary, mainly because of the atmosphere Polish fans brought. I vividly remember the match against Poland, where Petr Jiráček scored an absolutely astonishing goal, which sent us to the quarter-final. It gives me goosebumps :'-))
His goal is still in our nightmares :C

BBC documentary was extremely biased in the way it pushed its narrative. It led many black sportsmen living in Poland to make statements condemning Cole for his ignorant and racist rant.
I remember travelling a lot at the time of the tournament, seeing fans everywhere and it generally was a massive celebration.
In fact same hooligans you're talking about warned their supporters not to try to attack foreign fans or else they'd be dealt with by themselves. For the amount of people that arrived in Poland it was extremely peaceful tournament

To be fair, Euro 2012 and 2018 World Cup was a precursor for Russia and Ukraine before they ignited a deadly conflict this year.
Ukraine hosted Euro 2012, and two years later, Russia annexes Crimea from Ukraine, thus starting a crisis.
The Ukrainian crisis only happened several weeks after Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Russia hosted 2018 World Cup. The same year, Ukraine also hosted the Champions League Final in Kiev, when Liverpool's Loris Karius made two infamous goalkeeping errors.
When I was watching the World Cup in 2018, it gave me EURO 2012 atmospheric vibes. It's sad to look back at EURO 2012 and World Cup 2018 now.

its kind of amazing to see a video of someone describing Ukraine for what it has been until recently. A lot of these hooligans and racists got recruited for battalions like azov. These football clubs might have been a breeding ground for this movement, maybe even made on purpose.

While I've already seen others before, with Germany 06 being the earliest one I remember, Euro 12 was the first football tournament I watched in HD. It was such a novelty back then

Not saying that the prices would go up as much in Charlotte, but I"m curious what you could compare the Euro Cup to happening IN Charlotte. there's the quantity of the games being played.
Let's say ALL of the NCAA basketball games were going to happen in North Carolina, except people were treating each game like the finals of the NBA.
I doubt the prices at the 5 star hotel would go up as high, but how do you compare how much Europeans feel about Soccer with an event in the USA?
I do think the three star prices would be higher over all, considering Euro's are worth more than the US dollar.
