Striking similarities between the second movement of this sonata and the second movement of the Fourth Symphony composed four years later in 1806.
Looking forward to hearing more recordings by this fabulous duo.

The Fourth symphony is full of fire, invention, poetry, romance, conciseness, grace, beauty, youthfulness, brightness, gaiety (except the transient gloom of the introductory Adagio, although even that, is not tragic or oppressed at all). Not even the slow second movement of the Fourth has anything to do with 'ascèse'; it's about lyricism, singing ("cantabile" in the score), humor, romantic passion, and pleasure. :)

      Ascèse musicale , et pas d humeur , voulais-je suggérer :
me ferais je mieux comprendre si je prends l exemple du trio archiduc ?
      Votre enthousiasme fait plaisir.

      @@olivierdrouin2701 Thank you!
As the saying goes: apple with apple, orange with orange. It would be futile to get into a deep discussion comparing a symphony to a violin sonata. All I was pointing out was the similarities (and yes, I do find them 'striking') between the second movements of these two works. Indeed, despite the similarities each of them belong to a completely different world!
Apparently, there is also the issue/barrier of 'language' here. I wish I knew French. Incidentally, I have begun to learn it lately, but too early for me to enter into a discourse in French.
Lastly, speaking of the 'Archduke' Trio, did you know that the last known time Beethoven appeared as a pianist was in a performance of his 'Archduke' Trio in 1814? (Source: Beethoven On Beethoven, Playing His Piano Music His Way, by William S. Newman, Norton & Company, 1988, P. 20)
