El Cajon Pass Train Wreck 1994 (Short Movie)

- On this day 25 years ago marked the 2nd runaway train crash on Cajon Pass. It happened where a Santa Fe Intermodal led by 4 Locomotives loses it's brakes and collided into the rear of a 82 car Union Pacific Coal train, which had 3 lead locomotives and two helper at the back. The wrecked occurred not far from where the first runaway train 7551 East derailed 5 years earlier. Two crew members on both trains survive UP helper crew got off before the impact, but the Santa Fe crew suffered serious injury when they jumped from their out of control train. The NTSB found the cause of the accident was the Santa Fe train had a blockage in the brake lines which may have occurred somewhere in the middle of the train, the dynamic brakes and emergency brakes where working but without sufficient braking power their was nothing that could be done to stop the train in time. The four Santa Fe engines and the 2 UP helper units where a total lost and scrapped along with 5 intermodal container cars the head UP locomotives where unharmed. But the story of the Cajon pass isn't over as one more train with lose control down the grade 2 years later, but that's for another day.
Even almost 29 years later, it still scares some engineers to this day. Also I’m gonna give you special credit for using the creepy radio call from the ATSF and The Union Pacific. :)

CORRECTION: the Bluebonnet train is supposed to be numbered 5976 and the 3rd one is numbered 96 NOT 4596
Also the 4th unit is ATSF 144 not 1444

Hi im a locomotive driver and had seen some derailments from Minnesota we usually have a lot but im being retired soon becasue of these derailments
i made my own runaway train with 5 locomotives BNSF its mixed fright i went backwards while the train at front is going 22 notches i thought i was gonna derail but am still on the tracks😊

All locomotives have been scrapped it was unknown to be repaired, but everyone survived.
Excerpt the other locomotives behind the back.
All 4 lead engines of the Santa Fe intermodal, B40-8W #576, FP45 #96, F45 #5976, and GP60M #144 were declared a total loss and scrapped. The helper units of the UP coal train, SD40-2s #3341 and #3354 were also scrapped. The only other unit that remains was C41-8W #9450, which was at the front of the train and was undamaged.

He can't really made it due to there being no Southen Pacific engines in the game, however, I'm thinking of making a video on the 1989 cajon pass runaway and fire, and I'm gonna use the union pacific engines like in that mayday documentary that you've probably seen.

the fire that resulted after the collision basically fried the external and internal workings of what was left of the head santa fe train, as well as burying the helper units of the UP train. all of the lead units of the santa fe train and the helper units of the UP train were written off and scrapped.
