I am a prof musician and of course I know that this performance is not up with the newest musical research. And you know what? I simply don´t care. Baroque was an epoch with a maximum of musical freedom in reproducing. And it was an epoch when every progress was welcomed by composers and musicians. Maybe Bach would have enjoyed today´s istruments - nobody knows but I do think so. The so called specialists for baroque music have every right to reconstruct the old performance practice. But I think it´s a very double edged sword as many of them want us all to play and sing like they think it was done in former times. I simply refuse that. Music is a vivid, developing art and I see no reason to put it under a cheese cover and preserve it in that old status quo. So - Richter was a fine musician and I still enjoy him. And by the way: In the end every research on baroque music is like poking around in the dark. We simply don´t know for sure how it sounded and how they played as there are only a few written sources we can get information from.
Thank you for this wise comment. Not to forget that the writers of such documents (the only sources for musicologists) - probably - might not have been the best musicians in that time... I even enjoy the great arrangements of Bach by Stokowski.
Wonderful performance. Those who discount its historical authenticity must remember that performance trends come and go, and the fact that performances in this era did not conform to contemporary tastes must be seen in broad historical terms. Few people ever knew more about Bach than Karl Richter, and these performances were seen at the time as themselves "historical" and out of step with what was then the reigning concept of what Bach performance should be.
Hyramess Hiramess Thank youi very much for your kind comment. The performers are writen in video time: 2:00 - 3:20. Edith Mathis Soprano, Julia Hamari Alt, Peter Schreier Tenor, Dietrich Fischer Dieskau Bass, Munchener Bach Chor, Munchener Bach Orchester, Karl Richter Conductor.
Bach.
Wonderful!!! Any chance of getting the names of the soloists, singers and conductor? Great brass!! Many thanks for any addt'l info you feel like providing :)
Richter is a genial interpreter of Bach: with his formidable musical intelligence, he knows how to bring out the majesty and splendour in music.
Sublime Bach, inolvidable Richter
Impresionante, sublime.
We owe a lot to Maestro Richter.

Thank you for your comment. I totally agree with you!
@@hannslunninger416 I love Stokowskis arrangements, too. Richter and Stokowski - in my opinion - are the greatest Bach interprets

Stupendous, the violin in the Air Versus II is a guide to heaven

Bach es el padre de la música? Sus obras sublimes llegan al alma? Saludos desde Chile 🎼🎶❤
Insuperable
You are welcome !
A wonderful performance to be sure, but WHO are the ArTISTS involved? It would be good to know -- and certainly only fair to them. Thank you.

Hannancourt? You mean awful Harnoncourt? Gardiner the worst Bach (and others) interpreter so far.
Wonderful!!! Any chance of getting the names of the soloists, singers and conductor?
