Hi Arssenya. San Diego is also one of my favorite cities. I have been there many times, both to visit a brother who lives there and to the zoo and its annex wild animal park in Escondido a few kilometers north. I used to know an elephant trainer who worked with the elephants at the same drive-through zoo in Winston, Oregon, where I also did elephant rides. I am retired now, so I won't be able to train elephants again. Fond memories. Will you visit the Wildlife Safari in Winston some day? You get to drive your own car there or your rental, or you can take a van tour in the park. I used to do those too. It is also very scenic and the scenery looks a lot like East Africa.
I have vacationed many times in San Diego and have seen it's transformation. One of the biggest events in San Diego is the San Diego Comic Con. "If you ever need tips on how to score passes for the SDCC, let me know I have gone for 10 yeaars in a row." The tourist dollars from this event alone are one of the biggest reasons for the transformation of San Diego from a military port city to a tourist destination. There are still some rough areas in the city, especially near the ballpark, but overall San Diego has improved tremendously. On Sundays at Balboa Park they hold free pipe organ concerts at the Spreckles Organ Pavillion home of the worlds largest pipe organ. You will have to visit the San Diego Zoo, it is really a beautiful zoo, but avoid the hot summer days, also, it is a very hilly. Sea World is not too far from where you stayed and is very nice theme park, especially during the spring when all the flowers are in bloom, they have some of the most beautiful landscaped grounds.
San Diego and Portland Oregon the only two places I could consider living if I had to live in the US. I found great people and a very cultured atmosphere in San Diego each and every time I have visited which to date is over 30 times both in the Royal Canadian Navy and as a civilian.
