Soooo, funny story about me watching your video here. I work at a cafe and we get to play our own music there, and today was my turn to play music. As I went on my lunch break I was delighted to watch this video while having a smoke. Little to my knowledge, a glitch happened where instead of music, your video stared playing out over the speaker. So as I got back I realized what had happened and just started to laugh so hard. So I hope you found some joy in knowing that 40 plus people tried to study/work while listening to you just talk about what movies you own. I really hope someone got a recommendation out of it
Karsten PLEASE Make a Top 20 or so of your favorite movies of all time. You've said "Climax" , "Fantastic Mr fox", and "Synechnode , New york" are your favorite movies. It would just be so cool to see.
Hello Karsten - really looking forward to you watching and reviewing Harakiri, it's such a great film! And Kobayashi is a brilliant director - Samurai Rebellion is also excellent (featuring a Mifune/Nakadai duel). The Human Condition is one of the greatest films ever made, it's 9 hours long though so it is a serious undertaking. Thanks for doing what you do!
I like that you don’t care as much about what your collection looks like versus what’s actually in it. Too many movie buffs only buy shit to put on the shelves to impress their friends but you actually love and use your dvds. I keep a DVD collection still in the time of streaming because I know all too well how without physical media, certain works can become lost
Love seeing dvd collections, and from one of my favorite TH-camrs. FMF was my first criterion 5 years ago, but didn't get hooked on collecting until this year
Hey Karsten, I don’t know if you have a record collection, but if you do I would be interested to see it. Hope your doing good man love you and your vids
So, this independent cinema about an hour away from where I live is doing a yearly screening of the Fanny & Alexander television cut around Christmas times which, fun fact, actually was finished way before the theatrical cut, but wasn't shown until a year later because no theaters would show a 5h 22m movie. So, in a sense, the director's cut is actually the original cut. It is also the only version I´ve seen of Fanny & Alexander. Apparently the theatrical cut is streaming now on a local streaming service. I think I'll watch that one too, once Christmas gets closer!
such a movie person type of trait to just buy movies to not watch and put it on the shelf lmaoo i ve got like 30 movies i still havent watched either on my shelf
Can’t wait for you to watch The Celebration! As someone who also loves Red Rocket, you should check out the criterion for Take Out, which is one of Sean Bakers earlier movies, it’s great
You've never watched an Antonioni film? 'Blow-Up' is probably his most accessible, 'L'eclisse' is my favourite, I suspect you might favour 'The Passenger' but if you are really feeling adventurous perhaps 'Zabriskie Point'!
Literally yesterday I found Crumb and the Fanny and Alexander box set blu-rays at my local record shop for $12 each. Crumb is 100% the best documentary I've ever seen, glad I finally own it. Also, this made me feel a lot less shitty for not yet watching everything in my own collection!
Hmm, didn’t see any Australian movies in there, some really good stuff from the 70s. I would suggest “Wake in fright” (also called Outback) from 1971. I think it’s right up your alley. Also “Walkabout” from the same year
It’s been almost two years and you haven’t watched Beyond the Valley of the Dolls yet, I must hear ur opinion on it mr. Ranquist. Pwease watch it today thank you
Your mustache and shirt make this feel too personal. It feels like you're about to light a candle and open some wine.
Don’t forget the Barry White
Felt like being on a date and the dude just keeps talking about his interest without ever addressing you
😭😭
I am not complaining

This man really went from Ratatouille to Salo so casually
It's the equivalent of flying across one point of Earth to another, like Superman.
One is for the kids and one is full of rats. LOL. :)
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has dozens of Criterion movies that still need to be watched

Karsten: Parasite, Tati collection, Blue velvet

Although he said Blue Velvet was "David Lynch's very most accesible".
LA HAINE IS A CLASSIC! That's my first Criterion Collection on Blu Ray.
A great solution to replacing your Climax broken case is going to the dollar store and buying a bluray and switching out the cases

Gotta hit up goodwills. DVDs for like 70 cents depending on where you go, sometimes brand new
Recently bought True Stories during a sale and it’s become a new favorite! Loving showing it to friends and watch them lose their minds
the shirt really ties it together!
Karsten you are simply the best at what you do, talking about stuff and making it interesting
Love La Haine. Glad you own it. And La La Land might be my favorite film of all time ❤

Karsten: salo yeah need to watch it again
Me:nononononononono (insert office Michael Scott yelling turned to auto tune)
I love how the thumbnail is a reference to the Gaspar Noe Criterion Closet video
Why is Salo just chilling on the thumbnail?!?
how can parasite be the best movie of the 2000s when Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is right there 🤔
Eden Prairie Barnes and Noble is the place to go for 2022 Minnesotan suburbanites!!!

Karsten, I just gotta know, alphabetical or spine order for your Criterion’s?
“Parasite, probably the best movie of the 2000s so far”
It’s a good movie
I thought it was a better 1990s movie
revering to the century
OH FUCK YEAH! I got around 300 Blu-Rays and 93 Criterion Blu-Rays.
Why does this look like a scene from a Yorgos Lanthimos movie
I used the pink flamingos criterion to watch it for the first time. Transcended cinematic experience
i remember when you wanted to start a DVD collection specifically. and people were asking you why not blu-ray.
