  • Is 3/8 clay slingshot animal suitable for hunting question this is a great question and one that needs careful consideration.
The short answer is: we do not recommend it at all.
Anything can be possible. It has been done . . .
    BUT!
SHOULD it be done? We say no.
Use a setup that has the BEST chance for a quick clean kill. The mass, symmetry and potential velocity of the clay means one factor is present in hunting with 3/8 inch clay that you do NOT want there:
    Luck.
We owe it to the game AND our sport to be responsible. Hunting with 3/8 clay is not the level of responsibility we promote in our sport. Please don't do it.

The 3/8", 7/16", and 1/2" Steel Ammo as well as the same size of Lead Ammo.

I won't use anything under 10mm steel or lead for small game hunting. I find it to be extremely accurate with my setup and range I tend to hunt at.
And trust me when I say this, I worked in pest control for a few years, you DO NOT want to be dealing with a scared wounded animal, regardless of size.
Using clay balls to shoot a squirrel is like attacking Superman with a wet noodle. I've seen those things shrug off rat traps.

Very good video. I have your scout slingshot and have been practicing but I struggle with accuracy. I want to get good enough to hunt squirrel rabbit etc but even after reading through your books I struggle. The factor is when I was 10 (24 years ago now) I cut my left hand off in a boating accident. They put it back on but I struggle with feeling and dexterity. Do you have any advice? I could email if that would be better than a TH-cam comment lol

You may find this could help you my friend- Put a lanyard on the slingshot and make it just long enough so you can slip your thumb in the lanyard and then wrap it round the back of your hand before you hold the slingshot, when you grip the slingshot it will give you more support and stability. Some youtube videos on how to correctly use a knife lanyard will explain what i mean better than i can here in words. All the best to you.

3/8's clay . Nothing bigger than a mouse, I'd say is fine. Rats? Only headshot at point blank to dispatch.

@@mrmaldoon8362 love when the youtubes doesn't tell me someone responded. Yeah, it is a lot of fun. I probably sent a few hundred or so clay rounds down range with it, and broke a band. Reason for the broke band is because the ammo is just way to light for that set, but still got a few hundred rounds out of it. I wanted to go the clay route before I stepped up to steel, plus I got a bunch of band making material so I can make some bands better suited for the super light ammo. In the meantime, I have slingshot finger which has to be common among noobies :)

  • @laurenjacobsen7273

Thank you. I won’t try the clay ammo on the ground squirrels. I will use steel ammo, I suspect 1/2 inch would be fine?

And I will practice with it until I’m confident that I can hit accurately and consistently. I don’t want to injure or maim any creature.

@@laurenjacobsen7273 I've found really light draw bands useful for developing accuracy. There is a variety of variables to account for. A light draw means you can hold your draw with no effort. You have time to check each of them and really fine tune your technique. You can then gradually increase your distance and draw weight until your accuracy begins to suffer. You have then found your maximum distance and draw weight. You then choose your ammo weight based on your bands. Too heavy and it arcs. Too light and you get recoil and wear out your bands faster.

@@thankmelater1254 You're welcome. Don't forget to inspect your bands often or get in the habit of drawing them low and away from your face first. Thinner bands do wear out faster, but they hurt just as much when they slap you in the eye. 👍

With the abundance of people posting kill shots with a slingshot There needs to be more reminders about legalities Most people who post shots of wild game with a slingshot are able to because of country laws and licenses etc.

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Very true! This is a common discussion topic in some of the slingshot Facebook groups. All the members from different places have different regulations. What is legal in one country may be illegal in another.
