This time last week I was at the WSA international and European championships in Gualdo tadino 🇮🇹 Where I was able to place 1st in both major events - 1st place international champion followed by 1st place European champion. We began by shooting six preliminary rounds five shots per round on the WSA knock down target system. You could choose to shoot the targets in any order 80mm (2 points) 70mm (4 points) 60mm (6 points) 50mm (8 points) 40mm (10 points) Followed by 2 rounds of five 40mm targets (10 points) in which you had to shoot from left to right or vice versa leaving any targets you missed and moving onto the next. This determined the top thirty competitors. We then shot at five 40mm targets throughout the knock out stages which were added on top of preliminary round scores. It went top 30, 20, 10, 8, 6, 3 and final 2. I made the top 30 in 3rd place after a shaky start and settled in nicely to win the international title with Michal Danis 🇨🇿 in 2nd and Oscar Collado 🇪🇸 in 3rd. Then onto the Euros which reverted back to the top 30 Europeans after the preliminary rounds in which we went through the same knock out stages. This time Michal Danis coming in 3rd Oscar Collado placing 2nd and I again managed the win. I have been in disbelief all week. I knew I was capable of a good score but to win both major events was staggering and a dream come true. I would like to thank the WSA for putting on the event. The Italian's for being superb hosts The English 🏴 team for their support without which I couldn't have done as well. John, Doug, Billy, Ben, Tet, Crog, Jumbo, Skipman and the rest. Shoutout to Jan 🇨🇿 for sharing his chalk with me and our technical conversations which helped my mindset to remain calm under pressure. I'd also like to thank the American team 🇺🇲 for their support, Nathan, Darrin, Sarah and the rest, i couldn't have done so well without you guys. Finally my Wife Claire The week before when I had my bag packed she told me the bag wasn't big enough for the trip I explained I had everything in the bag I needed She replied without blinking "you've got no room left for the trophy" ❤️ that comment stuck with me throughout. It is strengthening to have someone who has this level of faith in you (and who let's you fly away to Italy for a long weekend with three kids and two dogs at home 🤣) she has suffered my slingshot obsession since 2011, slingshots in every drawer in the house, little steel balls in the washing machine and my half mad ramblings about everything slingshots 😂 Thank you sweetheart 😊🙏 There was a true sense of community at this event, everyone was extremely friendly and obliging. I'd strongly recommend anyone who is into the sport to attend a WSA event. I have some footage on Instagram and TH-cam and I'll be covering the event in the next episode of Sling'in it on TH-cam so any questions you'd like answered please comment below. Thanks so much guys! Isn't it crazy where a backyard hobby can take you 😀 Looking forward to the next one 🏆
This video is so visceral. It’s rare to see heart felt pride on TH-cam. Respectfully understated and brilliantly communicated. I feel proud of you too, Chris. 👍🥇
First of all, Chris, congratulations, once again. You're an incredible slingshot shooter! We spoke to each other during a meal with a few others at a Gualdo restaurant on the Sunday evening after the tournament: I'm the almost 60-year old guy. Everything you said in this video with truly valuable insights is absolutely correct. What people out there also need to realize is the years of regular practice that you put in to reach this level of shooting excellence, according to what you told me. Only practice makes perfect. I also took part at the 2018 Gualdo tournament, was at the very bottom of the final lists, and subsequently practiced on an almost daily basis since then with the hope of significantly improving my results at this year's event. An improvement, yes, but nothing to write home about. I was achieving 5 hits out of 10 shots at a 30 mm orange spinner just before this year's tournament with .45 mm "Precise" bands with an active length of 18 cm, and tapered from 18 to 9 mm. low draw weight and zippy for the 7 mm steel ammo I was using. My hope was to be in the first 50 to 60 or so, being realistic. Shooting at home is one thing. doing so at a tournament is another. The main problem I have is a pair of older eyes, and a right eye that fails to focus on the slingshot fiber optic sights or fork tips in difficult light (grey targets, black background at Gualdo...ouch!), thus resulting in a rather disturbing blur on those round drop-down discs at 10 meters. Controlling anxiety was also a major issue, regardless of how much I tried just to concentrate on the targets and ignoring the rest around me. Skipping coffee was clearly not sufficient. One needs to be mentally prepared. You'll most certainly do very well at the Shanghai tournament, I have no doubts. Kind regards, Peter
First off let me congratulate you Chris on winning the competition. You truly are a decent and selfless young man. The way you teach and share all of your knowledge and tips on how to become better with a catapult shows what a decent person you are god bless you Chris
Love the advice that every shot counts, that thinking about anything but that shot takes away from the current shot, and that willing that shot to hit the fly really does make the shot better. Sort of the mind over matter message.
Congrats on the win! I've just got into the hobby after fooling around for years and not knowing anything. In only a week I can hit a 3" target at ~20 feet about 75% of the time, and it's due to your aiming tutorials. Thanks!!!!
First off congratulations, I watched most of it, live, and couldn't believe it when the live feed cut at your final shot. Thanks for this incredible follow up Champ. So much of what I hear you talk about is the years of practice and good form, focus, and what you find so hard to describe: the elusive and elements of when it wall comes together. I call it Magic. I've been shooting for two years now and I am finally becoming consistent with what I call magical shots. There's a book called Zen and the Art of Archery, which I believe covers what we're talking about.
Congratulations on the wins👌. And thankyou for your insight on everything. I'm a beginner and all your information your putting out with TH-cam and sling in it Chanel's is golden 👍
About your outfit: For me, slingshot sport has a nice, street-kid vibe. Airgun sport is hitech, olympic archery is posh, slingshot sport is for the everyday people. I love it.
Wow! Congratulations! Couldnt happen to a better guy. Thank you for making this video. Just getting into slingshots and am devouring everything I can. Making my own frames too so your input there is invaluable. I cant wait to see you next year.
Chris, man you done very well and we are all very proud of you. I was rooting for you all the way. Keep it up and we all will watch your videos again we are very proud of you! Jack
First of all I would like to say congratulations. You are right about visualising the shot it's the same when throwing a knife at a tree if you don't visualise the knife going into the tree it will just bounce back and it's the same with shooting a catty . Thanks for sharing it with us 👍👍👍🎯🎯🎯💯
Congratulations Chris! You deserve it and you earned it. I have wanted one of your catty's for a while and coincidentally I recently worked out the model and dimensions I would like and there it is in todays video. I will be in touch to get in line for one. Cheers!
a massive well done chris you did brilliant and well deserved 👏 this video was a great watch just hearing everything you went through in the competition was so interesting top shooter ,top Man 👍🏼🎯
Great video Chris.. Every detail very well explained 👏 👌 👍 Well done winning with your own Frame Design and build 👏 Thanks for sharing the experience..👍
Very well done. It's good to see you explain how you went around managing the headgame, I've on and off been learning quite a lot from archery. Definitely go for some comfortable footwear, I'm into the Japanese jika tabi. You don't want to end up with lucky sandals that you can't shoot without. 👍
That's awesome brother, congrats, how can I order a slingshot like the one u used in this tournament? I would like to order that style but in different color, plus order bands with pouch like that, I've never seen one like that, I buy them made already killer job bro, I watch your videos every night trying to learn as much as I can, your a definitely one of the good guys brother, kudos to you and keep slaying em
huge congratulations, man! For the back issues when standing a lot: Try barefoot shoes. I have no back issues in my lower back any more even when being up the whole day. I tried the cheap ones from Am….. and they work perfectly.
Watched it live, some shooting chris, take a bow, yav earned that, well in, when ya battery went flat tho, 😮😮 i couldnt believe the timing 😂😂 again, top shooting 👏👏
It would be great if you showed in a video the speed of the projectile with a chronograph of ballistic precision with the configuration that you commonly use vs the configuration that you used in the competition, greetings.
Another thing in regards to bands snapping ive always had is having 2 or 3 frames the same with the same set up on is that something thats aloud in international comps . You deserve to be as big headed as you like mate 😂
Well done again!!! How many band sets did you use? How did you decide to change them? I'd love to hear as much about what you were thinking and feeling as you want to relive.
Hey Chris thank you for sharing all this detail stuff and congratulation well done, you are great slingshot shooter. I like very much the note in youre description, where you wrote about your wifes advise, very nice. Is it possible to tell me how i can enter such competitions? Is there anything to read about what the requirements are to enter the competition?
Could not find anywhere were you commented on what size ball you were using...?... I do remember you mentioning something about eight millimeter being the ball of the future In another video...
Again Chris congratulations on such a massive win. I have been following you for ages but just cannot get consistent. I have one question if you can spare the time please? In the video, you mention holding the pouch with the tips of your fingers and yet in this video when holding the empty pouch to seem to be holding pouch in the traditional manner i.e. the thumb and the top SIDEof the forefinger. Would you mind clarifying please?
