This Poland trip actually was a great deal. Take a look at Trafalgar online and check out the different tours they have around Europe. Poland is definitely on the lower cost side. The value of the US dollar there is amazing. I cannot believe how cheap things were, touring around the country. That country has gone through so much and has been controlled by so many other countries. They really are a resilient people and I’m proud to say my grandparents are from there.
It was a great trip. Actually, during this excursion to the farm for lunch, I was telling Patti I wish they would’ve came up with a cheat sheet of all the common phrase/words along with the phonetic spellings. That would’ve helped us out a great deal. If you ever get a chance, head to Poland. The people are great, the food is awesome and the value is amazing.
The Poles had their own pirates, their name was Winedze. The Vikings are more famous, but the Winedze competed with them, sometimes they competed, sometimes they took part in battles together and before the Vikings they were the terror of the Baltic coast all the way to Denmark, taking prisoners for trade, where the entire coast of Denmark was depopulated. The Vikings were also afraid of the Slavs from the coast because they were brave and nice, similar boats, but a bit smaller and more agile. Their boats differed in the carving on the bow of the boat, the Winedze had animal figures and the Vikings took from their mythology. I understand that you did not know about it, but the Poles also know little about it because they take information from school and there is official rhetoric that begins statehood began when Christianity was adopted and what was before is silence.😀
Thanks for the info. I did some more research on the Winedze and was able to find info on the Winedzi. Interesting reading. Thanks for expanding my knowledge.
There's a pirate ship that sails in the lake outside my office sometimes and gives people tours. Same as Gdańsk it has no relevancy to local history. I guess pirates just kinda naturally show up where unexpected, eh?
You can loosely associate the ship with that Danzig ships commanded by"kapers" that is bucaneers that were used to fight against the Swedes in the 17 century. One of them even brought to Gdańsk the painting by Hans Memling - "The Final Judgement" that you can watch in the Maritime Museum in Gdańsk and its copy in Marienkirshcen - the largest gothic cathedral in Poland.
Always a GUD day when Rob and Patti are on the run! Much love from the Rob Mob
As always… thank you. We had a great time a learned A LOT. I highly recommend Poland as a place to visit.
Beautiful sites, wonderful buildings and all that history. Trafelgar tours sounds like a pretty good deal, really covers a lot.

I think you are right. They just show up. It was just a bit out of place.
