This thing really sound like a vintage tape machine and can also be more modern if you use push the modern button, the choose of tape formula and also EQ curve from IEC to NAB made custom sound easy, i try it without eq and comp and it was crazy how it warmth and color the sound the drive button also enhanced your source a lot , it's not usefull for anything but it act like an harmonic exciter with some natural limiting and compressions it can glue a master bus or a group bus with taste, the delay and unstable noise feature also add creative use, im probably using this with my trident and pulltech emulation when my sound was a bit to clean and perfect to give a bit of color and mid range ...
Excellent explanations. Really like the song also. Useful EQ tip from Parsons. Having done a lot of recording back in the day on 24 track, 16 track, 8 tracks, and half track I think it is fair to say that wow and flutter wasn't really too much of a concern. Cassette decks perhaps. Maybe that is the next emulation we'll see. 52 tubes? whoa!!
To me the best sounding tape emul. YET Some emulation just don't do too good on a master ,either to dark or to bright of a effect the Arturia i found it to be very balanced, 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks very much for saying so! (The voice belongs to my wife Pauline, so I'll pass on your kind words.) Here's a link to the full song: th-cam.com/video/ELa7GRSNyNY/w-d-xo.html. If you'll forgive my indulgence, I'll also point you to this - th-cam.com/video/EFZQt07wgAg/w-d-xo.html - which is my first (and only!) album. Evermore is one of the songs on it.
Thanks for the insightful review. Like you, I am not much interested in putting back the flaws of tape, such as wow, flutter, and hiss, except as special effects in rare cases. Nice to hear from a person with your experience that this emulation can make some positive changes to a mix.
Holy flying cow, 52 tubes! I rewound a couple of times and turned on the captions. I could not believe I heard that right. Anthony, do you perhaps know why it was so complex? It seems almost overengineered. Many tubes also have 2 valves in them, so the number of valves in the circuit may be even bigger.
It was probably the only high tech stuff they have when they build this tape machine in the mid 60's transistor or micro chip was not even a thing, so they must amplified signal for any component with valve component, it's not especialy for the sound itself but for control the rotary of the DC motor , that could explain why it's over or seems over engineering ...
🔥 Another good one
Your channel is fantastic that was a great demo and review of the Arturia Tape J-37 FX.
Cool, thanks :)

I'm no engineer, so it's equally mysterious to me! They clearly knew what they were doing, though :)
