I saw the furious 4 reunion in 2014 , with my now passed mother, it was absolutely fantastic.

That sounds like such a great moment. Something really special shared with mum. Never to be forgotten

Great to hear fromSpud! Classic Quo with the frantic 4! 🤘🏻never the same without Spud , n Nuff. Such a tight rhythm section, love Johns drumming on Slow Train!

The entire groove, feel and essence of Status Quo departed when John left.
Alan and Richard were honest enough to admit it even if the other one wouldn't.

Good to hear John, huge influence on me as a drummer, and coming from South London I felt a connection with the no nonsense boogie and humour, huge part of my life Quo as a teenager and still play Quo from the 70s period, real rock stars and feel good music, there is no real music to just forget ones probs today...they had real fans, and they were loyal to fans ...and im one....thanks for the music John.

Mr Coghlan is such a gent but a perfect drummer. Helped to define the Quo sound and, indeed, helped shape many other genres. Quo were always such an enjoyable part of my life

Not forgetting Roy Lynes who was in the band between 1965-70. He also played on their first three albums.

"Don't drive my car" Brilliant ! John was the best Quo drummer.

John was the only official Quo drummer. The others that followed were never official members of Quo, but were merely session musicians.

Never the same band without out John. You would think a drummer could be easily replaced, but not in Quo

Yeah in many bands they have a sound that can be easily copied no matter who’s in it or not but with quo compare the original music to the current music you’ll notice with the new music it’s not got the swing grove or shuffle beat sadly

When Alan Lancaster was sacked, Quo became even worse than when John Coughlan left. They were never the same again without John and Alan.

Such a shame John didn’t play on the 1982 album . Don’t care what Francis says Quo was never the same once John and Alan left

100% Pete did a good job I thought but they weren't the same they added the hard edge to the band which made them great.

They turned into a cabaret/bad wedding band after spud and nuff left.

I appreciate John's role in making Quo one of the great rock bands of the 70s more now, in hindsight, than I did at the time. Shame that Francis seems to have some kind of problem or denial with just how 'heavy rock' (more as a live act than on record) they were, at their creative peak - as Rick said in later years, "we were never metal, but we were a hard rock band".
On the positive side, it's great that JC is out there (Covid permitting), still doing his stuff - I have never seen his band live, but having listened to this podcast, I intend to catch him/them live, once this Covid nightmare is over!

The secret is never to be more popular than Francis, Rick, Alan and John not suited to be part of the Quo Lite tribute act. Johns last album was in 1981. Everything recorded after that was frankly awful. That period between 70 and 81 was golden and they couldnt put a foot wrong, a great period to of followed Quo.

Quo sound was never as good as when cranky John was drumming with them
