  • If you're expecting fireworks when Groucho encounters a Rabbi (thinking of some of the stories of his hilarious encounters with other clergymen), just remember that this is 1956. Groucho is completely respectful. But he does get off a good line that I won't spoil, about actors in synagogues.
    COUPLE #1: Jules Strongbow / Rita Chalmers
    COUPLE #2: Rabbi Nussbaum / Mary Bramson, young girl
    COUPLE #3: Joe & Ivy Messer, a couple with 8 kids, including 3 sets of twins

    I watched several of the most famous and accomplished Announcers from the 1930's-1950 era on a 1978 episode of "Tomorrow" with the Great, Tom Snyder. George Fenneman was asked if he and Groucho had ever had any major differences or arguments, to which Mr. Fenneman responded, "No, never... Groucho truly cared about people, especially young people."

    Watching these old shows is fascinating to me since it gives you a kind of window into a specific period of time. You can see how people talked and how they dressed up and the also the way they thought about things at that specific point of time. Though I dont really grow nostalgic about these times since they had their own issues also.

    • @MadTheDJ
      @MadTheDJ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wondered that, too, and looked him up. Apparently no relation. The later Strongbows were Luke Joseph Scarpa (Chief Jay) and Francis Huntington (Jules). Couldn't find much on the '30s wrestler here, though there are a few matches posted on YT.

    • @jeffnettleton3858
      @jeffnettleton3858 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The later Strongbows took the name from him. He was the booker and a promoter for the Los Angeles wrestling group, which featured wrestlers like Gorgeous George, Count Billy Vargas and Classy Freddie Blassie. Jay Strongbow wrestled much of his career under his own name, Jay Scarpa (not remotely Native American) and the later Jules Strongbow had wrestled as Frank Hill, before joining Scarpa.

      @MrMenefrego1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Mary C Thank you fort so kindly answering my question. Your Mother is quite right, I guess we all think we will be young forever... but time has a way of catching-up with us all. As far as your father never maturing emotionally, many of us men have a problem with that. One of my daughters asked me once if boys, "ever grow up?" And I asked her if she thought I was grown up, she said "Well Daddy, Mom doesn't think so." lol Have a Merry Christmas, Mary.

    Mary David is kind of wonder...lovely and awkward beyond belief. As gentle and funny as Groucho is with her, he almost seems a little cruel and inhuman asking her those questions about her name and boyfriends. Breaks my heart a little to see such a smart girl, probably much smarter than most adults, with likely a far more beautiful soul made awkward, even if Groucho too had something like a beautiful soul.

      I'm sorry; are you referring to Groucho Marx? One of the funniest human beings this planet ever produced. If you can watch Animal Crackers or Duck Soup and not laugh at Groucho and his brothers, you need to seek professional counseling. Even more, read Groucho's books and his letters; wonderful stuff, including a series of letters he exchanged with Warner Bros, when they tried to threaten a lawsuit over the name A Night in Casablanca. He danced rings around them with wit and they surrendered.
