    I love how you explain things so beginners can understand. Brilliant stuff! I didnt know that there was a plug with independent cables to the plugs, I need to test mine because it is a bit slow starting in the cold.

    Such a simple video yet so much fun from watching it 😁👍 and no doubt some hard work was put in to make it! Thank you Alan!
    I've been soaking my plugs for 2 weeks before they finally eased off and came out. Would not try pushing it.

    Thank you Alan. Clearly, the MK5 2L is a great performance engine. Sadly however, the engine flow and layout must’ve been designed by a sadist gynaecologist or proctologist with all various engine parts located in very tight areas, requiring multiple removal to carry simple replacement of minor parts. Here in shitville (Straya) I have a 2016 Ford Kuga with the same great performance engine. Recently, I had to remove the front bumper-bar to replace the park light, and the front wiper & t its apron to replace the battery. They took frigging hours. Bloody sadist design by gynaecologist ...........I am sure of that………..
    thanks once again for the all the great efforts you put in these wonderful educational clips.

    Thanks Alan, it has to be said that they are easier to do with engine out. I had a MK2 Granada with a 2ltr diesel in it ( it was non turbo and slow, very very slow) i decided to do the glowplugs on it. Tight !!!! In the end i took it for a drive and they came out with a hot engine, mind you there was plenty of room in an engine bay in those days.

    Top info there as always. Nice to see they came out nice and in 1 bit. When putting the new pkugs in I dont that a small smidge of copper grease anti sieze compound on the plug threads would go a miss.

    I swapped an 1800 Audi A4 engine a few years ago for another which looked identical but had a different code. It started up but had no power. Turned out that a different engine code needed a different ECU.

    Thank you Alan for another instructive video! Based on your previous videos I got the confidence to replace myself, preventively the timing chain. and guess what? Injector number 4 snaped and the lower part remained inside the cylinder head.😂🤣 It was so corroded... I am amazed the specialists I called over were able to extract it. Did this happen to you? See the video I made about it on my channel.

    I tend to use a 1/4 drive socket set for glow plugs, if they won't budge with that, normally they are well stuck. Some different theories between letting the engine get stone cold or whilst it's hot when getting them out. Little bit of ceramic grease for the new ones when they go in the head.
    What's your overall thoughts on the 2.0 PSA engine?
    I've had the different variants of the 2.0 hdi over many years and i have to say, they have been trouble free and reliable but i delete all egrs, dpfs etc so that may help.
    The earlier 2.0 RHF engine glow plugs are at the back by the turbo, and they are a pain in the arse to get out, all done by feel. Great video Alan

  • @phudct

    Great video as always Alan. One thing to add - my 2015 C-Max 2.0 diesel reads ~3v on the supply side of the plug connector. A quick search online suggests that this is expected for engines since 2012. But since you see a lot more of these engines then I ever will, have you ever measured it directly?

      Diesel engines use the high compression in the cylinders to ignite the fuel unlike petrol engines which use a spark plug but diesel fuel does not like cold cylinders so the glow plugs help put some heat into the cylinders which helps ignite and atomise the fuel better

      hi yes 330-400 psi is pretty good, if you were down to 200 psi you would certainly have a problem, you may well have another problem like glow plugs but would check ecu for codes first

    Hmm.. I live in Finland and you can start these engines without any glow plug working fine!
    So im not sure, how old is your info. But as you test with battery your glow plug, i say its old.
    Look at your glow plug side.... its NOT 12V anymore! ....~4,6v was last one that i member.
    Today they are not so much for starting at cold they are more and more for emissions and so they are used even when engine is running...
    And so on some of these if you lose all 4 plugs you get Engine system fault message and lose your engine power to force you get and fix it(for emissions).
    "...all 4 of your glow plugs are bad."
    "But my car starts fine even at cold mornings."
    "Yes. Isnt it nice when engines just get better and better so they need Webasto to heat cabin up so you dont get cold?"
    These are facing forwards and so i like these more when they are at back of the engine like was it 1,6liter those are my worst nigthmare for breaking as imagening need to drill that out.. MAN..
    PS. I Would say that run your engine HOT 2 fan spin ups (with AC OFF) before so you burn most sudd off before you start tu pulling out that bad glowplug as it was bad loong time before you noticed it via fail message ;)

    Wow... Shows how much a PSA engine engineers around a glow plug. Vag engines are a piece of cake, but then again I've replaced these at 70k causing an EML. At 270k, that's damned good going for a plug.
    Could NEVER own one of these engines because of the crud they build up in the intake. Took my merc engined 300c inlet manifold to bits to clean after an egr delete. What. A. Pig.

    • @scottbrooks3402
      @scottbrooks3402 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Egr deletes are a must to keep any modern diesel's intake clean. The newer VAG stuff isn't as reliable as the PSA stuff, the older non common rail stuff was very good, but the newer stuff is unreliable. PSA's dpfs are much better also, been around alot longer

    • @monkehbitch
      @monkehbitch ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottbrooks3402 You know I hate to admit I agree, the PSA engines are much better than VAG. I did have an old school mechanical VAG unit in my volvo. that was 320,000 miles of tired fun. I doubt a PD would reach that now. But with Alan showing how a well maintained fleet of taxi's begin tickling 300-400k's, I must say for bone stock engines, I am impressed.
      If he had abilities to kill the EGR when they were first bought them, I'm sure they'll live a lot longer. Not only the intake - But oil life is extended too. I flushed the oil on my volvo d5 (with an egr delete) with wrong grade oil, It was in there for a few days while the oil arrived. The flushings were black, but the new oil stayed clean for well over a month!
