  • I'm building a fitness app for the community and here's why.
One of my main goals is to make fitness as accessible for you as possible.
When I released the Hybrid Routine, I tried to eliminate cost and time factors
Hundreds of thousands of people have used it at this point.
    I hope it helped.
But I ran into an issue.
People don't want to spend the 20-30 minutes watching the intro videos and understanding the method.
    It's okay. I get it.
So the app can give you a notification at the time of your choosing.
Tell you exactly what exercise to do.
Tell you how long to rest.
    Learn from your set numbers.
And let you know when to move on.
I also want it to log your progress so you can see how you're progressing over time.
We have officially started development, but we're in the early phases.
We wanted to get your feedback. What would you like to see? What can help you? Please let us know.
    Have a beautiful day!

Have a fitness test at the beginning so the user can get a customized workout. So someone might be stronger in a push-up, but weaker in a squat. The app can then point them to the right level for each exercise. I like the idea of tracking progress in a graph format.

A few suggestions (some might be repeated since I'm sure others have similar ideas as well)
    1. Motivation - If the app notices you havent logged the exercise yet at the time you were supposed to, maybe ping us again with a slightly modified/easier version of that day's exercise an hour or two later. I'm pretty guilty of starting and stopping due to mental health struggles.
    2. Nutritional Tips - This might be out of the apps scope but honestly, having a general meal guide to follow with measurements really helps.
    3. A fitness test at the start to get your "base level" for each exercise the app targets. Then the plan automatically works up from those base levels. However, the plan should probably be adjustable in case a person feels theyre not ready yet.
    4. Guided warm up and cool downs.
    5. Voice and animations to guide you through the exercises/movements.
    6. Synced with Spotify for music, bonus points if the music softens/mutes to allow a clear voice over when its time for instructions.
That's all I've got for now! I am super excited about this regardless of what you do with it. I know it'll be great!

hello Hampton, I think a very good idea would be to have an app on the apple watch, I would also like it to be with weights too (in case you were planning to do it only with body weight) or also have a part of nutrition or small healthy habits, that they give you some reward even if it is congratulations.
    other ideas :
    -stretching
-have friends to see your progress
-a place where the community can discuss their workouts and ideas, and post their progress.
    -explanatory videos for the technique
-also as a menu with different sections to explain the importance of healthy things such as the importance of sleeping
-several languages (even if only in the texts)
    -daily challenges
That's all I hope it helps you

  • @petershaw8237
    @petershaw8237 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Maybe gentle reminders that encourage you to work out even if it's just 5 minutes. I personally struggle a lot with making new habits. Also maybe something like a streak just like duolingo does it it helped me stay with the app for a year. Also maybe rewards for doing excsrsises so you have something to be proud of by looking at the app. Like small goals like "do 5 of these in a day" " 50 of these in a month" or maybe just motivational stuff like "yay welcome again to the app you logged in for the 3rd time in a row congratulations make it to 7 and you will get a reward"

I'm all for a hybrid (pun retroactively intended) model for most apps, especially new ones with a big userbase already funneled. I think it'd be ideal in most cases like this to keep options open for subscription-based models, but also sell (possibly for a limited time or limited quantity) a one-time purchase tier of pricing. It can be a great way to pull in lots of cash flow up front from committed supporters, in a way that gives them a good deal in return for their faith in the product and also helps boost the userbase early on, and ideally helps boost initial growth enough so that later profits easily make up for carrying a few extra early adopters who no longer pay anything.

This is a great idea. Basic initial screening short questionnaires are well-standardized already for anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. It's entirely okay for non-therapists to use these non-diagnostically as a simple harmless broad heuristic net, for catching the occasional person who might need a bit of info/encouragement provided.
It would be pretty trivial to prompt users with these now and then as a sort of mood self-check reminder, and that moment of mindfulness alone is enough for many people. And then also, users who choose to input responses could easily automatically trigger subsequent events in the app, such as self-care and resource suggestions popping up for a moment before people navigate back to the app home screen or whatever. And of course any related simple tracking of entered metrics would probably encourage exercise regimen adherence as well, since people would be able to notice and quantify those quality-of-life changes much sooner.

I've seen people asking for a nutrition feature (diet plans, calories trackers, etc) but I think if these are included it should be toggleable, or a separate unobtrusive section
This is cos you said you wanted it to be accessible, which may have meant UI and design but I think there would definitely be interest in a fitness app that doesn't shove weight loss in your face which is something that can make apps extremely unaccesible for some people
    Thanks!

    • @ItsAsparageese
      @ItsAsparageese 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thank you for bringing this up! Yeah, if any app encourages tracking nutrition, in a way that I can't disable or keep out of my face, then I straight-up cannot use that tool. Doesn't matter if I've been back on the intuitive eating train for a good while; I've learned that it's way too easy for me to relapse if I start paying close attention to numbers again, so I have to err on the side of avoiding anything that romances me back that direction.
It hadn't occurred to me that a diet tracker might end up being part of this app, but I'm very glad you mentioned it because that's a very important point! People who don't have close knowledge of disordered-eating-world so often fail to realize that putting a diet tracking app in front of someone with an ED can be tantamount to shoving a drink into the hands of a sober recovering alcoholic.
And anyway, from a business standpoint, I think it would be a terrible idea. Our delightful friend here is smart about diet and nutrition, but there's a T O N of oversaturation in that niche already anyway, it's a lot of software work, and it's just not central to the themes and elements that make him and his content truly special.

I don't want to assume the current version of the app has that problem, but a lot of other fitness apps focus on weight loss, even if they don't have build-in diet plans.
It would be awesome if not even the language or the underlying assumption why you're using a fitness app have this icky focus on weight loss, like a lot of other fitness apps have.

    1. Dark mode. It's a must.
    2. I think you would implement this, but please show a quick tutorial about how a n exercise should be done. Not just by voice (voice is sometimes annoying), but also visually. There are a lot of visual learners who don't know how the excersises are called.
    3. Include challenges. Really motivates!
    4. Make sure to add a reminder on a visible place that we should be rather consistent and do a few simple excersises per day, or two-three times per week, instead of going hard the first day and have no energy or motivation on the second.
    5. Please, also consider including tips on how to train our mental strength as well, so we have a higher chance of sticking up to a routine. Motivation dies out fast. We should learn to be consistent, especially those of us who are new to excrrsiding, so they don't have the habit of exsorsising built up yet.
    6. Addition to the challanges- set some easy and realistic goals, at least for the newbies. This should motivate them to try harder. You can ask people to mention their train level when creating an account, if such would be created, so you can show them the best excersises and challanhe levels for them.

Hey Hampton! I’ve been working out for years and have used various fitness apps similar to what you’re planning to develop! Here are something’s I’d personally love to see and recommend!
1: Simple - Like you said, you plan on keeping the design and interface simple, which is perfect. Being user-friendly is amazing.
2: Customizability - I personally love the apps that would ask me questions about my goals, my weight, and other things, so that it would then personalize my routine to what “best suited” me.
3: Progression/Adaptability - I feel it’s super important for any fitness app to be included with a program that scales up and adapts to you as you progress. It makes life so much easier! I’d even be willing to pay for your product if it meant it’d be higher quality! I’m sure others feel the the same too, although we know you’re trying to avoid that at all costs.
4: Quality - When it comes down to it. The experience of the app is what matters the most, if the quality and fundamentals of the app aren’t sound, and it constantly bugs or has annoying glitches, people will just stray away and stop using it.
Bonus: It would also be really cool to see the app have a “warm-up” routine before the actual exercises. Also a “run” section where the app will time you to “run/walk” a certain amount of time to reach a certain calorie goal. Or even you could program it to include a “HIIT” routine. The more options the better!
I hope this little list that I complied helps, and assists you in the making of your app. I’m super stoked to hear about it and can’t wait to see the final product! Love you so much Hampton, hope you have a beautiful day. ❤️

Make different diets for certain types of workouts, and then all the fitness workout parts too. This will make your app AMAZING, and you could even do free with ads

I really want the guided exercise feature you mentioned just to see how fast/slow I'm suppose to do the exercises, rest in between. I often play and replay exercise videos to exercise along with the videos actually, so it's just nice to have the timer built in in the app or even in a youtube video.

I enjoy your shorts because you have modified movements for things I can’t do and your voice is so enjoyable. Please include mods for us less capable until we can get there

I’m very auditory when it comes to transitions so some type of sound when the timer is about to hit zero or someone counting down is great. Being able to play my music on the same device is nice and a congratulations for completed this workout emote or chime makes me feel accomplished🤧
