    I used to want to do extraordinary things but as i get older i just want to build a life worth remembering. I dont want to look back at the decisions ive made and feel regret. Some of the goals we chase in life will move us away from loved ones and into a new way of life, new hobbies and new people. Sometimes the grass isnt always greener on the other side and things can never truly go back to the way they were. Foresight is incredibly tricky

    I'm a perfect example of both of those things.
    I try to explain things but i also don't care if people don't want to understand.
    "Dont tell me i can't because you never did"
    Is a line from one of my favorite songs.
    Other people say a lot of things, sometimes they're even correct, but most the time they're not or have no idea what they're talking about.
    It's just noise.
    What's important is results.
    Most people won't care until they see the result.

Im 17 and im just going into college. im thinking about starting a UNICEF club and raising money, but i dont feel like thats good enough. I want to choose a career where I can help people, but i really dont know what career i can do. Id like to be a doctor but id just end up cure diseases in the US where people are already pretty well off, and treating people overseas wont do much, youd need to help establish healthcare services locally in those communities. I just dont know what to do to help as many people as i can, or who I can talk to about finding a way.

    • @zachparade2791
      @zachparade2791 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      College is a great way to find the answer to that question that is right for you. Try every club and subject that remotely interests you.
      What you describe is often spoken about in social work as a spectrum of helping individuals versus creating systemic changes. Both are important, and different people are more suited to different places on that spectrum. There’s an analogy that is given in that field that often helps me remember the difference. You are walking along the side of a river. You suddenly see a baby floating down the river. You jump in and save the baby. But then you see another. Then another and another and another. So many babies are floating down the river, you can’t save them all. Some get by you. Suddenly, you wonder where are these babies coming from, so you climb out of the river and run along the bank until you find a factory that is sending babies into the river. Logically, it makes the most sense to try to solve the problem at its root. However, in doing so, many of the individual babies will die before you can make the change. That’s why, when social work or public policy is done well, it strives to both help individuals and create systemic change. Sorry for this long reply. I hope whatever you decide you are able to make the world a better place. ✌️🍀🙏

      @@zachparade2791 No, thank you for the long reply! I really appreciate that you took the time to write this out! It gave me some insight andIll definitely do my best to get involved in college, and I really hope to find a fulfilling career.
      May I ask, whats your career and how did you decide on it?

    • @zachparade2791
      @zachparade2791 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @be419 Yes, I will tell you a bit of my story, but I would recommend taking it as a cautionary tale of what not to do. At 13, I started martial arts and became very passionate about it. From 16 - 22, I taught martial arts at other people’s dojos. Unfortunately, I let a lot of things get in my way from owning my own dojo and went down a number of career paths that took me away from my dream. Now I will turn 45 in a few months. Life goes sooooo fast!! I’m happy to report I am finally taking real steps towards owning my own martial arts school, but I have a ton of work and obstacles to overcome to make that happen.
      One thing I would recommend is to always prioritize your health and fitness, regardless of what you choose for your career path. I let myself get distracted with work and not take care of my overall wellness. That is one of the obstacles I have to overcome to start my dojo. Anyway… you’re in good hands if you are listening to Hampton and following his advice. I hope this helps you in some way! Best of luck on your path! ✌️🍀🙏

      One of the ways to figure this out is go and talk to people in the positions you want to be in. Talk to doctors, people in healthcare- the more you talk to people, you'll learn what aligns and you'll discover careers you didn't even know existed. Oftentimes there are careers at the intersection of different fields & you'd be surprised. + keep trying things, learn your strengths and never hesitate to ask for a position, or a job or a volunteer spot - anything you want to do & you'll learn on the job - most people do!

    This is a wonderful video and painful for me at the same time. Ever since I was a teenager I felt the urge to improve myself be better at something, be great at something but I got PTSD. And if there's something that can hold you back from progress it's trauma, until you find the right therapist your will and strength can do nothing for improvement. To me there's nothing worse than wanting to excel, improve even, but being held back by something out of my control. Your video reminds me to not give up on that feeling, even though it's painful at the moment. Thank you for that

    • @Ayverie4

      From an autistic person with PTSD - my life might look ordinary, but it has taken tremendous effort to get where I am. I am proud of what I have achieved, even though I spend practically every day spinning my wheels. If I make progress one day out of a month, I'm not going backwards. That is impressive for me. I healed my depression and had three beautiful children, by Just. Keeping. On.
      I believe that, while I don't have impressive strength or intelligence or have broken any records, I have an impressive spirit. I have endured a lot of suffering, and I have an unbreakable will. The day I shed this body, I will see those spiritual gains. When I am not held back by chronic pain or chronic fatigue anymore, it will be like taking off the extra weight and suddenly realizing my true strength.
      "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

They would rather everyone be on the same level so that they don't have to work as hard to be average. Thanks for just being the best "you" that God blessed you to be, Hampton!
    Take care and God bless.
    Keep winning, my friend.
    PS. Just wondering when you'll speak at one of those TED Talks. Just a thought.
    I'm sure I'm not the only person who'd gladly view (several times) a taping of you sharing a presentation on that platform. You're such a beautiful and positive light in this dark, stressful world.
    We're all very blessed to have you.
    Sending warm hugs filled with encouragement, love, and strength.
