Check out Garland Jeffreys Escape Artist and Ghost Writer - his two best IMO. As much as we all complain about vinyl prices, there are still plenty of worthwhile records in the clearance bins. Nice finds!
@Mfidelity Thanks, Dave! Ghost Writer I have, Escape Artist is on the list. As you say, plenty of worthwhile finds out there: just need to dig for them. Appreciate the watch and comment 🎶😎
“For 3 for 10 I certainly can’t afford not to buy anything” 🤠 Bob Clearmountain really was everywhere in the 80s as you said. Nice Raspberries pickup in great shape for a great price. I have that Richie Havens album. I’ll take Waylon & Willie for $3 every time. I have my original copy of that Howard Jones record. At the time of its release it was too poppy for me, but I like it now years later. Our daughter loves 80s pop and Life in One day is a favorite. ✌️
@MGKBOSTON Thanks, Mike! I agree: Life In One Day is a good HJ track and doesn't seem to get as much airplay as his other hits. That Waylon/Willie also has good covers of Roger Miller, Rodney Crowell, and David Allen Coe. It's a keeper-and you probably already have it! Thanks for the watch/comment, my friend. If we don't chat before, have a Happy Thanksgiving with the family 😎🎶
Hey Ed! Three for $10. Always a good time to take a chance on some records and no harm done if you don’t really like them. I enjoyed your breakdown of these records. Happy listening!
@StylusMeetsVinyl Got that right, Chris! I'll throw a few of these back out there at my local record shop for a trade in. That Joe Tex is a keeper, for sure. Thanks for the watch and comment. Have a great weekend! 😎🎶
@catherine6653 I had actually forgotten that on the LP is the acoustic version: it was a nice surprise to hear that! Thank you as always for the watch and comment, Catherine 😎🎶
I really like the album "Alarm Clock." I also have a bunch of Joe Tex 7-inch singles. I need to play that Howard Jones LP. I didn't realize all of those singles were on that album. Some nice pick-ups. You're right, you can take chances on cheapies! 🙃
I fee like I should like Garland Jeffries, but I have never really heard his music. I have that Ian Hunter album...and Howard Jones and Modern English, too! Good deals!
Garland Jeffries is another one of those critics' faves that doesn't translate into sales. Catalog is hit or miss, and always affordable. 'Springsteen light' mixed in with a bit of politics and reggae swing. I tend to oversimplify!
Hi Ed! I like the fact that a lot of these are pretty niche and you would have to know what you’re looking for. Good point about Bob Clearmountain. Everywhere. I know what you’re saying about the Clash. I think they have some brilliant material, but for me they actually have a fair amount of monotonous songs too. Sometimes less is more. Waylon and Willie that cheap is worth it. Sure they’ll have some clunkers in there during this time period, but there’s bound to be some gems. Honestly at this point I’d rather hear Richie Havens version of Here Comez the Sun over the Beatles. Great finds Ed!
Hello, Gary! We are definitely in agreement more often than not, I'm finding. Cool! That $10 limit has me finding stuff by artists that either have passed me by, or leads me to a solo LP by a member of a band I really like. A few of these I'll circulate back out there, but ya never know until you give it a fair shake when back home. If we don't chat before, have a Happy Thanksgiving! 😎🎶
Great pickups. Favorite pick ups are Howard Jones and Modern English. I have not picked up Howard Jones yet to add to my collection. Perfect scenario would be for me to see a 3 for 10 deal. I have one modern English album so far and like it quite a bit. Looking to slowly beef up my Soul collection and Joe Tex is now on my radar. Great video as always Ed.
Thanks, Shawn! 3 for $10 I was not going to pass up. There may be one or two I put back out there, but definitely keeping the ones you mentioned. If we don't chat before, have a Happy Thanksgiving! 🎶
Hey Ed. I pick up any Garland Jeffries that I don’t own. One Eyed Jack and Ghostwriter are really strong outings. I don’t have any Havens, have to correct that. Joe Tex is fantastic. Can’t go wrong with Ian Hunter. I see Howard Jones records all the time, but haven’t been tempted. Great pickups. The problem with 3 for ten is you always end up with 7, and have to go back for two more 😂. Cheers.
I concur, Jack! I've also been on the lookout for 'Escape Artist' as well. You are correct with the '3 for Ten' scenario: I faced that very dilemma with this stack of LPs! I can't get enough of that Joe Tex album. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. 😎🎶
Hey Ed. Great video! I love Garland Jeffreys! One of my fave tunes by him is “Spanish Town”. The Raspberries ! I was just playing “I Gotcha” yesterday. Great info and insight as well! Cheers
Thanks, Bobby! I haven't listened to 'Ghost Writer' in some time: I have that GJ LP as well. Good stuff! That Joe Tex album I've been playing a lot since I picked it up. As always, appreciate the watch and comment 😎🎶
Some great deals, Ed! I like your philosophy of not being able to afford not buying records. I saw Richie Havens when I lived in California in 1981. Strangely, I can't remember if he performed Here Comes the Sun or not. I was just out of high school, though, and it was an outdoor concert, and it was California. I'm sure I've forgotten a lot of things from that year! Great buys, Ed!
Sweet Side is such a great place and Ed is a really good dude who keeps record-buying fun. Glad to see the word getting out from your locale :) I discovered Garland Jeffries with Guts for Love and it made me pick up Escape Artist when I spotted it a couple weeks ago. Pleased again. Now he's on the 'buy when I find' list... regardless of any Springsteen similarities ;) (sorry, just not a fan). Thanks for sharing Sweet Side !!
It's a great space, with lots of inventory to choose from. I'm there at least twice a year when visiting in that area. Appreciate the kind words, and the watch, Nathaniel 🎶😎

It's nice to see your new record finds. I like the Howard Jones album. It has the acoustic original No One is to Blame.
@catherine6653 I had actually forgotten that on the LP is the acoustic version: it was a nice surprise to hear that! Thank you as always for the watch and comment, Catherine 😎🎶

Thanks, Mark! I'm going to go out on a limb and assume he did. 😎 Some of my high school years from the 80's are a blur as well!
I don’t have any of the ones you showed but do have different Garland and Howard albums. Looks like you found some nice stuff
I got some deals, Doug. Garland's 'One Eyed Jack' I've been playing a lot. 😎🎶
hey ed i already have that howard jones and simple minds records, both good albums!
Nice! Thanks, Dave! Appreciate the watch and comment 😎🎶
Great stuff bud
Thanks, Ernest! Appreciate the watch and comment 😎🎶
