I hope you enjoy this video and thank you for watching
Great video Dale, I went on that last year on a New York visit, what a fabulous city 👍
This is quite different than the train you drive Dale. I like this video and thanks for sharing this one. See you at the next one 👍
Wow as a New York native to see the air train expand from a one car single unit to now a three car set is just amazing I hope that when it deadline hits. it’s still kept an operation.
You was in my home state of New York I wish I had the chance to meet you
Crazy!! Size of the place. Nice one Dale...certainly different. All the best.
I did the same ride from Jamaica to what was terminal 6 20 years ago. I met my father at the terminal and we flew to San Jose on Jet Blue. I have very vivid memories of riding in the front of the train, as you did.
It’s a nice little train ride. Well worth the $8.50
That was different, great video
Brilliant video Dale! Hope you enjoyed your three day trip!
I did thank you
Enjoyed it dale thanks very much
That's like Elizabeth Line on steroids😂🥴🚝
Great video dale
Nice one Dale. Hope enjoyed NY. A great experience on a driverless train. Blissful, no stress! 😊 👍
Driverless trains works very well on those sorts of systems.
great video dale a bit of a busmans holiday I bet it felt like being back at work😀
At least it want my problem if some thing happened 🤣
@@dalecharmantravels8057 very true looking forward to your next video
Now you need to do video from the 'driving' position of the DLR. With a commentary of course. 😁
Every time I use the DLR ( not often granted) some one is sat in the front seat. Do they not know that’s my seat
Interesting, trains drive on the opposite side as well!
Just like London - i even saw a BP station as it departed 🤣🤣
Good day (night over there at the time of posting?) Dale. Hope you've been doing well...kinda got sick of waiting for the algorithm to show me your uploads so I just rang the bell.
Also driverless units are fun as hell, I have a soft spot for the Mitsubishi Crystal Mover.
And huh, alotta construction around JFK.
Yes I’m sure it will be a great airport when it’s all finished
Wow. So similar but yet so strange. I know people who've moved there and are never coming back. I could do the same, but ...
Nice little treat Dale, thank you. I hope you had a great time over there, though did you have a moment getting into the front seat wondering where the other two rails were? I did when the video started, it took me a minute to remember this wasn't the Pic' line!
I would be happy to drive that every day. I would spend most of my time looking at the planes though
Yeah I imagine that would be quite distracting!
As I recall from using this train some years ago, it’s free to use between terminals but you had to pay to get out into the real world. $5 when I last used it.
I noticed they have new announcements on JFK Airtrain.
Despite having visited NYC a number of times in the past, I've only ever used taxis to go to/from Manhattan, so I'd never seen these trains and, therefore, I'm particularly appreciative of your taking the trouble to record this.
Great view and what seemed to be a smooth and efficient journey - thank you for sharing this with us lot 😊
I have a question: when you landed at NYC, how did you find the queues for passport control? Only once (when we flew with American) did we get through in just a few minutes (rather than queuing for 1 hour or more when we went with certain other airlines - though I feel that was possibly an issue at the terminal rather than with the airline per se).
Anyway, being at the front of the train (as usual!), did you pretend to drive it - much as I might have done on the DLR in years gone by 😳 - or would that be too much like a busman's holiday for you?
I have recorded a video of how to use the subway to get from manhattan to jfk. I have not looked at the footage yet but hope I can make a short video to help people feel confident using public transport. I was straight through immigration less than 5 mins. There was no one in the line when we got there. It was quicker than using the e gates in the uk. Even though I was in the front I was too busy looking at the planes to think about driving the train 🤣🤣
Amazing. I though you were driving it for a sec 😅Overall what do you think of the NYC subway? (for me the Tube is much better as I can see)
One thing I like about the subway is the plastic seating. It looks cleaner ( easier to clean) and is probably more comfy than some of the seats on the tube. Saying that it has no personality they all look the same. No splash of colour
Hi Dale, recently discovered your channel. You mentioned you only have one camera, I have a DJI Action 3 spare that I can send you and no cost.
I do have a few different cameras now. I appreciate the offer though
Hello Dale! JFK AirTrain is another of our signalling projects, just like the Jubillee and Northern lines, 4LM, and the DLR in London. Great to see your video as I didn't have time to ride the line when I was training their maintainers back in the spring of 2023.
That must have been a great project to work on. Planes and trains. What more could you want
Hellow sir I hope u did enjoy the trip
I did thank you
@@dalecharmantravels8057 👍
Are them two flys at the beginning of the video.
I saw the new trains arriving on the Piccadilly Line yesterday on TH-cam. They’re certainly different
They do look good from the outside
Could you try a pod at Heathrow to the car parks
I did film it earlier this year but sadly the footage was unusable. I will try and do it an again at some point. It will be next year now
5:10 What a horrible screech! Everything is built as extreme-lightweight as possible. When a little reverberation/resonance starts up, it just keeps going.
I love JFK air train it's just so much fun and this is the best video of the ride I've seen nice one Dale. Mark D.
Hey Mark. Glad you enjoyed it. I know it’s a little different to my usual videos of me waffling on 🤣🤣
Have ridden this many times. So much easier now it’s tap to pay
Yes it does make it nice and easy
This system is very similar to Detroit people mover. However this has newer cars. I do recognized the voice. It is the same as the old voice on Detroit people mover. Detroit people mover is in the process of getting new cars. However they aren’t technically new. They are getting the old cars from Toronto line 3 i do believe.
I said this before the Detroit people mover uses the Innovia Metro system. I do believe it 100 series.
The Detroit people mover uses 2 car train. And has 6 trains total. In a 5 mile total length i do believe. It is currently free for all of 2024 and 2025. Normally the price to ride is. .75 cents at a fixed rate which means the price doesn’t increase per station. Currently it is closed until the end of November for track replacement.
The Detroit people mover has 1 maintenance shop. Which is station time square. This is the part of the line where it switches to a double track. Because it is easier to bring trains out of service for maintenance. Their maintenance bay can hold about 25 trains. But the Detroit people mover has 8 trains they use. Which means their are 2 trains in the maintenance shop at all time. They can easily bring trains out when there is a break down.
That looks a lot nicer than the monstrosity that is the Newark Airport AirTrain and its awkwardly small compartments..
I will have to take a trip there to try it one day. Maybe it’s a new series. Airport transit systems
Dale, what are you doing showing a driverless train, it’s like a Turkey voting for Christmas 😂😂
Hahahaha. It may have been driverless but with me on the front at least there was a driver 🤣🤣
@@dalecharmantravels8057 more of a supervisor
That's a long way
Is this what they call a busman's holiday? 😁
It is yes 🤣
As usual a other brilliant video Dale. Weard with out the commentary. But something different
Hi Dale. I hope you had a fun time in NY. The recording forgot to say and mind the gap😂!!
Don’t that will haunt me for ever. Mind the gap and this train is ready to depart. Maybe I should have ready to depart on my head stone
It's like something out of The Simpsons, not sure i feel confident in a driverless train. On another note I saw an interesting video by Geoff Marshall all about the new Piccadilly line trains being built in Goole.
This tech has been around a long time and has been proven out in numerous city. This type of train and automation specifically has been used since 85 in Vancouver Canada. JFK air train does have platform doors which Vancouver doesn’t have yet. Likely due to two type of trains being used. These trains are way faster and way smoother than many of the subway line in NYC.
A bit of a busman's holiday 😄😄
Did you take the LIRR to Jamaica? Or the subway?
I took the subway. I did film it to show people how easy it is to use. Not looked at the footage yet but hope I can make a short how to type video
Great video Dale but the announcements weren't as good as yours. 👍.
I know. I give them a 6/10 for effort 🤣
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Is there no step free access at Terminal 7 until November of this year though? :D
Would you like a mint, Dale?
That depends. Do you charge as much as I do ? 🤣🤣
Dale, does it throw you off being on the front of a train, not having controls in your hand., saw the 24 stock got drliveted this week, but within hours got vandalised!
No I like the fact I am not responsible for the train. Although I’m not a fan of having to pay. The new train was graffitied on route to us
Great video dale, i wonder why they didn't just extend the subway line to JFK?
Money for one thing. Airtrain was paid for out of the Port Authority’s pockets via a ticket surcharge, money the MTA and the city have no access to.
Hey Dale, did you see Geoff Marshall's new video showing the new Piccadilly line trains being built?
I have not watched it yet. It’s some thing for my day off to watch
Talk about a bus mans holiday or in this case a train mans. 🤣👍
At least I didn’t have to worry about passengers getting stuck in the doors 🤣🤣.
No chance of a SPAD on this line - no visible signals at all. Frightening!
It works ok on small railways like that. Trains a good distance apart
A driverless train freaks me out as much as a driverless car ⛔❌
I can just about handle a monorail 🤦🏼♀️
For those sort of trains they are fine. Mass transit type system not so much
@@dalecharmantravels8057 So it's a bit like a monorail but slightly larger, from the looks of it.
Yes effectively.
A driverless train is nothing like a driverless car. My city (Kuala Lumpur) uses the same type of trains (ours are longer) in the video and carry on average 200,000+ passangers daily and has been in operation for more than 26 years. So far, there has only been 1 major accident without any fatalities. Ironically enough, it was caused by a faulty train that was driven manually.
@@Redzwancan vouch for these. Very reliable and well tested system in Vancouver there has never been a train collision in the history of the Vancouver Skytrain. A couple minor derailment due to junk thrown on tracks over a fence. KL did have a tram collision due to a train length programming error by Bombardier apparently. The tech is proven in many many cities. HK airport line uses the same Thales based system derived from the Vancouver, Detroit, and Line 3 in Toronto (now closed due to bad track Maintenace and love of their subway system).
