    This has been one of the best video I have ever seen on the French Defense. You'll be reward if you're patient and if you create more content like this. Well done, sir!

      Thanks Eric. I'll definitely create other beginner's guides, though I might try to make it a bit shorter and make videos of this length more geared towards intermediate players as I feel in the end it came out a bit overwhelming for true beginners...nevertheless, glad to hear that you enjoyed it and best of luck with/against the French!

    I always thought that the French defence was boring but my god that poisoned pawn line in the Winawer looks scary and I'm not even sure for which side.

      It's really crazy for both sides but in my experience it's harder to play from the White side. But the upshot is that if both players are very well prepared White should have more chances to press, which is why it's a popular line at the higher levels.

    I really enjoyed this overview of the French. As a 1.e4 player the French has been the most challenging to face.

      For sure, the French is very very tricky to play against at all levels. In my view the main reason for this is that Black immediately forces a pawn structure that they're super familiar with while you, as a White player, are only facing this opening maybe 15-20% of the time. Definitely one that pays to prepare well against.

    I would never take white’s d pawn until I could immediately win it in the advance. Now I have this theme of cxd4 to play nb4 to allow nf5!

    Move Bd3 going to Be2 is funny, why not Bc2, as it still prevents Nf5 ? BTW thanks for the great guide.

    hi alex, thanx for the clear explanation. i am a french player and i'm thinking about to play the rubinstein variation, is it playable against all of the white variations? can you make a topic on the french wing gambit?

    • @alexastaneh
      @alexastaneh  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jacco, I'm not an expert at all in anything on the French but yes I believe Rubinstein is solid and playable against all variations. The wing gambit is definitely a good idea for a video, will keep it in mind.
