The Caro-Kann was the first opening I learned and the opening I'm most familiar with. I LOVE your interpretation of the opening. You prove by showing actual lines, that the Caro-Kann certainly is an opening to play for the win! One can play aggressively, and one can play positionally. One gets to know so many pawn structures and middle game ideas, that it was the best thing that ever happened to my chess.
Well done! This is the best Caro Kann video I have seen on TH-cam. I really like your approach to the Fantasy Variation which is what I use in my own games. It is solid and easy to play. Thanks for putting together a great lesson on this opening. For years I played the dragon against e4 openings but switched to the Caro Kann with much better results.
Thanks for another great video big Mio. I recently found your channel and it has helped me immensely. Not only i am learning New and exciting stuff but you helped me find my appetite for chess. I am a club player but for the last five years i was not enjoying chess anymore, i was only playing on club tournament because "i had to", to help the team as i used to be board 1 on my club. The result of playing and not enjoying it, Led to bad games and around 150 elo points lost. Thanks to you, i am back at it again, and also planning on playing some tournaments this year. So, big cheers to you, keep it up and stay strong. Hvala!
Thanks Panagiotis! It’s quite interesting you are 5th guy who said that I brought you guys sort of willingness for chess! That is nice 👍 Enjoy and good luck in the future!
didnt know this channel so far. im starting chess and i really like to go ahead with playing the caro kann as black. so this video is just incredible helpful. i wonder how long it will take to get all these positions into my brain. will try great work thank you!
Thank you so much about the step by step using the Karo Kan defense through your briefed and concised explanation to all Karo Kan players I admire you a lot your presentation I considered you brilliant ! ! !. God bless.
thanks for the content....pretty thorough... on the negative side.....often had to stop and rewind due to quick explanations...but this is understandable. Also a minor point....Caro Kann starts with a "C" not a "K"
i started following you since the nimzo indian explanation thanks to which i was able to defeat a player much more higher rated than me , i will try out this one too even though its pretty long , but after the nimzo indian im assured that this will definitely make me improve
I have decided to start playing the caro, seems to be very popular especialy the advanced variation and play c5,or the koichnoi letting your Nf6 get swapped off...Just bought a book from amazon its really good, makes a change than the sicilian or e5.
To me, lowly 1700 on lichess, this is pretty high level stuff. At my level, no one knows the best lines with white, so I still have a rather easy time using a little theory. I gathered so much ideas watching this video, I feel bloated. I need to digest ! Awesome content. A big thank you to big Mio. ( Man ! You are strong. I feel so stupid when I listen to an IM)
Hvala na videu Miodraže. Imam pitanje da li je solidna pozicija ako pri advanced zrtvujem pijuna C5 da bih na njegovo mesto stavio konja polse cega stavio lovca na F5 i piuna na E5?
Hi Mio. Amazing video, I have started playing the Karpov variation because of this video. You didn't mention the Van der Wiel attack where white goes Nc3 and then g4 in the advance variation. Do you have a recommendation against this?
I'd like to thank you for your lines recommendation which are very simple and clear with deep understanding moves, But may you please teĺl us how to play against Panov attack, i think its interesting as its an annoying from black point of view .. thanks..
Thanks for all your effort. I'm curious: I've had some success as black with 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 b5 4. exd5 b4. Ultimately black has all his pawns on white squares. It's called the Gurgenidze system. Do you have any opinion about this system?
This is why when I teach my students, I teach them to play 3.Nd2 instead of 3.Nc3 b5!? The thing is that it is not necessarily anything that special for Black, but gives pretty interesting game on the other hand…
48:12 When 5. ..Nc5 most people are "out of prep" and they don't push 6.e5. I faced Qb6, Qc7, e6, b6. There are lot of interesting ideas within those lines. Also, with e5, when c2 is attacked one could try bd3?
@@MiodragPerunovicOfficial 1. e4 c6 2. Nc3 d5 3. d4 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Bf5 5. Nc5 Sure e5 is the best way to proceed for black, but at least at my level, people panic because have never seen this variation 😊 In your video at 48:33 I was mentioning about going Bd3 instead of c3 and basically hope 😅
Hi Mio! Thanks to your Bishop's Opening course my daughter has just become the U7 runner-up Polish Champion :-) For an ambitious amateur would you recommend the Caro-Kann over the French Defense?
Wow! I am so glad to hear that! French is trickier for kids and when I was kid I had amazing results with French with Black! 💪 Congratulations to your daughter! 👏
But don’t tell too many people about it! I want it too stay somewhat secret haha. Named after GM Jonny Hector who has some wonderful games in the opening.
Hello miodrag, please correct me if I’m wrong but I didn’t see what is the continuation for black in the Karpov knight d7 line when white plays knight g5 + bishop d3. I have been analyzing it with the computer and somewhat black seems uncomfortable - some continuations with King e7 or king f8 as the main recommendation by the engine. Please check it for me, thank you
@@MiodragPerunovicOfficial The thing is it seems so easy for white to play than it is for black - There is a line where white plays knight e4 then black takes e4 queen takes knight comes to f6 and white plays queen e2. It’s so easy to play for white - he long castle and pushes his king side pawns while black is a bit stuck with a passive position - even with the b6-c5 bishop b7 black doesn’t seem to enjoy the position. I’m talking from a human point of view not an engine one

This is such a thorough video. I keep coming back to it over and over again. Eventually, i'll have all this memorized XD
This is the most detailed Caro-Kann opening tutorial i can found on TH-cam, thank you a lot!
Glad it was helpful!
Ah yes Mio. Thank you for finally joining the dark side and encouraging play of one of the best and least boring openings.
Thanks for an excellent tutorial!! I will mention that one main line was left out. 1.e4 c6 >d4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4. c4. The Panov Botvinnik Attack.
Panov is not really complicated, and you can research it for yourself, it's similar to some openings
