Actually, Efficiency is also capped at 255. You can test this by giving yourself Mining Fatigue amplifier 127 and mining obsidian. Also, all my tests made Frost Walker out to be limited at 14, not 16.

Yes, in programming, the variable type "int" has that specific value, so in the code of Minecraft, there might be a line of code like:
int value_of_enchantment;
Thus, when you input a value bigger than that, it just breaks down.
Technically, it should be at most "char", so 255.
That’d be byte for most of the code; Java uses ”byte” for 8-bit values, though Minecraft has some Native C methods that might use char
I think the double limit (1.7976E308) is the largest number that minecraft java or bedrock understands if I'm correct so something like applying the double limit to teleporting will just make the game be like: "why are you here" and then the game will not allow you to move anymore. Also, teleporting up or down doesn't change anything, it will still have that 1.7976E308 double limit barrier that cannot be seen even with holding a barrier in your hand (if you didn't know, holding a barrier shows any placed barriers).
@@shadowplague4274 That means that the coordinates are stored as doubles, which allows for a floating point. Maybe they could’ve used float, but for example you don’t wanna do a Sharpness 1.5 so they set that to int, which is an easy to use data value.
I'm trying to make those weapons in NBT explorer and all I managed to achive is getting level 255, and that's it.
@@Nik-6675 1.19 they started to make any enchantment higher than 255 look like 255 but i think it's only client side so it should still behave like a higher level weapon. But you can try in lower versions

This may sound very dumb, but there IS in fact a way to raise the enchant level even further, sadly I've utterly forgotten the command, but if you input one that applies multiple enchants in one command you can stack the same enchant onto it, this will in fact stack the effects, basically sharpness 2 + sharpness 2 stacked on the same weapon with this method will make sharpness 4. Though I'm unsure if this method still works

For the record, the reason that the protection enchantments work the way they do is that they sum together; protection gives 1 point per enchantment level, feather falling gives 3, and other types give 2, to their respective damage types. The game counts any sum of these points over 20 as being 20, and each point is just like having another layer of armor, stacking multiplicitively.
or that means any protection can only max out at 80% protection. Going higher than that exponentially decreases damage taken

What happend?
Fortune used to work up to 32767 way in the past, breaking a single diamond block generated literally thousands of items, instantly lagging out the game.
I wrote a server plugin to automatically combine nearby items of the same type (before that was a thing in Vanilla, and with a much larger effect range), as well as cap the amount of the same item in the world just to not lag out the server when playing around, with that, breaking a single diamond block still generated dozens of stacks of diamonds every block.

11:02 Quick charge level 6 does in fact work, it just takes like 60 some years because the enchant lowers the charge time to negative at lv6 and it calculates time by subtracting seconds. So once negative, it goes to the negative integer limit before looping around to the positive integer limit. It will work, you just gotta wait your whole life first.
So what level would it have to be to be faster than lv5?

The Enchantments can set to higher values in Bedrock. Frostwalker for instance can be set high enough to freeze pretty much all the water in game.

I remember once quite some time ago, I got a bow with many enchantments at 2147483647, and then my world crashed after shooting a chicken because the integer overflowed. (It was in 1.14, and I think they didn't have a 255 limit on some enchantments at the time)

Just want to point out that the protection enchantments (including feather falling) reduce all damage by 1/25 per level for protection, fall damage by 3/25 per level for feather falling, and specific damage by 2/25 per level for other protections. Also, the protection enchantments only absorb up to 20/25 of the damage.
Unbreaking and Mending are great to have on the same item.
I remember when those 2 enchants could be combined with Infinity on a bow.
Its interesting that the code can still work with the variable type being changed. I guess they changed the code to catch the exception of variable type change.
About the efficiency enchantment, what happens if you give yourself the MINING FATIGUE effect while mining the obsidian?

fun fact about thorns, it acts like bedrock edition damage! meaning that if you have netherite armor and hit an entity with thorns 10 thousand, your armor will just instantly break
I actually found a spigot plug in that could do enchanting that high, it's called crazy enchants. I crashed my server 5 times in 10 minutes experimenting with looting. 😂

The only advantage I can see with an efficiency 255 wooden pickaxe is it would probably mine obsidian with mining fatigue 3 instantly (if not it at least allows diamond to do so)

Hey, if your interested, in bedrock edition using a code editor, most enchantments, though only going to level 37267, will reach that level! This includes some that immediately break the game like fortune that will destroy your game by breaking a single ore, just a fun little thing…
The feather falling is limited at 7 because the max EPF for falling damage is 20. Feather falling has a x3 multiplier so Feather falling 7 is the exact same as feather falling 4 with an additional protection 4 armour piece.
