- This is not what I intended to post today. I've spent a lot of time on something that isn't ready, so here is a flugel 'improv'. Nowhere near as polished as I'd like, but well within the spirit of the Sunday Jam.
It's only a part of what I wanted to finish, so I'll probably roll this over and add more to it for next week.
TH-cam suggested the backing track during the week. Good work, YT! It's really long, varies a bit and has a really nice chord sequence.

I'm glad you got that feel. I used to go to a blues club on a Sunday night and doing this took me right back. I've done more than you're seeing here, so I'll build on this for next week.

Sounded great through the microphone despite not being in a studio setting!
Usually this would sound much better. My favourite mic for brass (you can see it) is designed for clipping to the bell. The only trouble is that you get mechanical noise when you use the valves, so I clip it to something (eg music stand) and then get in really close. Usually I'd get the placement and distance just right and then sit solid as a rock and do take after take and get everything spot-on, then switch on the camera and mime for the video. Because of limited time, I decided to try doing the audio and video in a single take today. You can see from the edits that I did it in about three. So it's not very polished but it is much more real than usual!
This was so lovely! I just found your channel, and you are so talented! I've never heard a flugelhorn before. It looks like a trumpet, but much more mellow, which I love. I didn't know an instrument like this could sound so warm & expressive. Good job! =)
