    This is nice but painful to work through. Hiding and showing and changing and cutting and hiding again.
    I wish Techsmith used their GROUPS feature to enable special groups to be designated as 'multi-cam group' and then allow switching the tracks inside the group (which would be your individual camera streams), using a number like other apps do. So you create a group, add the tracks in there, cam1, cam2, cam3, etc. and then OUTSIDE of the group, you can simply switch between the cameras at different times and Camtasia would immediately display the corresponding track inside the group. This would be a much cleaner and powerful way. We can only hope in Camtasia 2029 or something :D

      Thank you for the comments! Yes it certainly can be tedious... it's one of those things that if you do it enough you'll get better and faster at it and find "your" best possible workflow. But I do like your idea of a "multi-cam group"... that sounds super-helpful... and like you said, maybe it can be added in a future update! :-)

      Hmm, interesting...

    Could you use the play head to help align the audio?

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you could... I just find I don't need to. But if it helps you, you could maybe try that with timeline snapping on... so the clip snaps to the playhead?

    Silly questions, does 4K take up a lot more space and how does the 4K transition to TH-cam? TIA

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      4K is 3840 x 2160 pixels... so both the horizontal and vertical dimensions are exactly twice as much as 1080p (which is 1920 x 1080). You can therefore fit 4X (four times) 1920x1080 inside the 4K dimensions. Bottom line, if all else is equal (frame rates, bit rates, etc), then the 4K version will be 4 times larger than a 1080p version.
      TH-cam has no trouble handling 4K videos... it's just that it takes 4 times longer for you to upload them to youtube vs the 1080p versions. But you only have to upload once... the 4k version... and then TH-cam will "process" the video into all possible versions... obviously a 4K version, but also a 1080p HD version, a 720p version and even small 480p versions.... and the reason it does that is because it will only serve any particular viewer the maximum size that they can handle based on whatever device they're watching your video on. So if they're watching on a phone that can only display 1080p, that's the version youtube will stream to them. Does that all make sense? Let me know if you have any other questions :-)

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      To clarify... a 4K version will be 4 times larger than a 1080p version, in terms of file size... the video file will be 4 times larger. Therefore... it typically also takes Camtasia 4 times longer to render/export a 4K video vs a 1080p video. I hope that helps :-)

      @@RobtheMaritimerIs it possible to connect all cameras to a monitor. How can it be done?

  • @Jolene_Morris

    When you edit out a section, you split it before and after, delete the section, and then finally SHIFT slide it over. When I want to edit out a section, I highlight the section and press CTRL+X (to cut it out), which deletes and shifts it over in one step. That makes it all one video so there's no need to copy effects and properties. Is one way better than the other? Is there a memory difference or another reason why your method is better? Extremely helpful video, by the way. Thanks, Jolene.

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the tip! I actually didn't know about your method so I just researched it. It turns out that this "Ripple Delete" is Ctrl-Delete after you select the area to cut out with the playhead handles... in Windows, and Cmd-Delete in a Mac... but it's a customizable shortcut in Windows, but not customizable in Mac. You've perhaps changed your shortcut to Ctrl-X in Windows? I just ran through a quick sample edit using your method on my Mac and here are my thoughts. 1) YES there are fewer keystrokes and the added benefit of having everything stitched together so no copy/pasting of properties and effects... a huge bonus! 2) I personally found it a little difficult having to remove my right hand from the mouse to press the delete key while holding Cmd with my left... but I only have to do it that way because I'm on a Mac and cannot customize that shortcut. Also, I've now only done it your way ONCE... so presumably I would get much faster at it with practice :-) And finally, the way I do my editing, I typically make my first cut after a good section and at that point I don't often know exactly where the next good part is... I may have messed up once, twice, three times... so I often find myself splitting where I think the next good part starts, and when wrong I control-Z undo and move on to the next. So it's just a slightly different way of editing. BUT... I think with practice, the way you do it may end up becoming my preferred method. It certainly has potential... I just have to adjust the way I go about it. AND I'm going to request that Camtasia add that as a customizable shortcut to the Mac version! Being able to do a Ctrl-X entirely with my left hand would be a huge help! Thank you so much for your insight... very helpful. I learned something today :-)

    Hi, have not seen how you reccord the videos files. we can only reccord one camera at a time in camtasia.. right ?

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes that’s correct…. You can only record one camera at a time with Camtasia’s recorder. If you want more than one then you’ll need to record additional cameras inside the cameras (some cameras have SD cards and others like phones you can record on their hard drives)…. Then import the additional camera recordings and sync them together. I hope that helps :)

    Curious about the cat, is it a rag doll and it is partially shaved? Your videos are excellent!

      Thank you for the kind words! Yes, she's a 13 year old Rag doll and her name is Peanut. We shave her about once a year as her hair gets completely out of control... she was shaved less than a week ago :-)

    Hey Rob, thanks a mil again for great content. Brother, have you done a video on dynamic captions? I want to know if it's an upgrade or audiate product becuse i dont see it on my captions.

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have not done a video on Dynamic Captions yet as it was just released yesterday with the Camtasia 2024 update. If you don't have Camtasia 2024 then Dynamic Captions won't be available. But if you've already upgraded, where you'll find them is click the "Captions" tab in the left menu. That's new if you're on a Mac and will take you straight to them. If you're on a PC then that link has always been there... but still, click it, and then at the top you'll select the "Dynamic Captions" sub-menu item at the top. I hope that helps :-)

    I suggest an “auto audio sync button” to save time on syncing the audio in the beginning. 😉

    Way to represent Texas with your shirt, Rob! ;). Question - where do you store your files? I just upgraded Google Drive to 2 TB for $100/year and I know many people use external drives, but I have this fear if my house burns down, the drives are melted. LOL
    Thanks for any tips!

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use a Synology NAS locally in my house to offload projects from my MacBook when they’re complete… it’ll store I think 30 TB or more depending on the size of the drives you put in. I made a video about it a couple years ago so you can find that on my channel… the Synology DS1621+. But you’re right, if my house burns down I’m in trouble…. To complete the backup would be to backup the NAS offsite to backblaze or something like that…. But I do use google drive for important things… I have the same 2 TB plan you do but I’m looking at maybe getting more space than that. I hope that helps :) PS i went to Texas last winter to a Cowboys game then drove to New Orleans to see my Lions play the Saints… great time, and it took us through Waxahachie, TX where I got the t-shirts ;)

      I prefer external drives just in case. Provides local backups and if the Internet drops out you can still work. Which vendor? I only use OWC now.

    Not sure that will work for those of us with a Southern US accent.

      Also, for an upcoming client project, they are using live "How-To" demonstration recordings with multi-cameras. Your tips couldn't have come at a better time. Thank you, Rob.
      ps - I would say an important lesson I've learned is to take periodic version saves at key milestones (just in case).
