    I've been doing emissions testing on compressor engines on and off for 30 years. The Mullinville station was one of my favorite jobs. Those old compressor engines were so cool. It was a running museum. Even the stations that I saw that were built in the 1950's were modern, really modern, by comparison

    Amazing that the basic design of these engines has been in use for a century, and dates back to the design of classic steam engines.

    Looks exactly like the engine room I worked in for Panhandle Eastern over by Kismet. Those old horizontals were music to my ears . Ain’t heard one run in almost two decades, thanks for posting this video.

      I overhauled a couple of the KVRAs in Goldanna..4 years ago about. Don't remember any Cooper or Worthington horizontal. Where were they?

      My Dad put those engines together and helped build the plant in Natchitoches. I lived onsite and played around those engines all the time in the 50's & early 60's. Crazy to think about that now with all the external moving parts. He was eventually the Plant Foreman there before moving on to the plant near Winnsboro, La. then Lake Charles as Division Manager. I visited the plant in May 2022. I tear up every time I see them. Got a Spark Plug from one.

    Awesome engine. Love these big tandems and twin tandems. Hope they keep them running. Too many are being scrapped.

    Very nice looks a lot like a SNOW engine, like the one at Coolspring PA.

    Awesome remember seeing exact same pumps with tall angle cut smoke stacks in a huge corrugated steel building in Signal Hill CA. I recently went buy and facility had been leveled and was unable to find and documented history so sad to see it go.

      Thats a damn shame. Onwards and upwards or down and out as it seems to be heading.

    These babies will outlast us all! Why dont we build such quiet economical machines anymore? Today we build a machine that MIGHT last 10 years at a push 🤷🏼‍♂️😂😂😂

    That engine room is familiar, but can't place it. NNG? Iowa? Only 4 of the old 26s left. Due for decommissioning next year, I think.

      Yup! That's it! Worked on their GMWA8 a year ago. No 26's running there now.
      Love the sounds! Put in your headphones and listen to the various rhythms. Would be a beautiful background sound track!

    SO, WHAT IS IT DOING?

    • @jeffmiller3150
      @jeffmiller3150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Compressing and pumping natural gas, while being fueled by the same gas.🔥

    So, is the the actual compressor part at the end of the cylinder?

    • @elektro9564
      @elektro9564 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1:42 this is the compressor end, the other end that we see at the start of the video is just the engine. There are 2 double acting compressor cylinders and 4 cylinders for the engine

    Are these engine still running? What's the name of the pumping station?

    • @holtbv
      @holtbv  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know if they're still running Ben. They were definitely in service when I was doing some control work at the station for Northern Nat'l Gas. I think it was not too far from Dodge City, KS. They also have a storage facility in Cunningham, KS

    • @bolt2510
      @bolt2510 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its basically a big engine that is compression natural gas, its also running of the same gas

    • @Nasty_Ramen
      @Nasty_Ramen ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for that but do you know any specs on this engine

    • @bolt2510
      @bolt2510 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Nasty_Ramen im no expert but from a good observation i can say that these are 2cylinder boxer style engines each side has a piston that uses ng (natural gas) as its source of fuel. It would appear that it is a 2 valve per cylinder engine. The 4 rods that move up in down are your “push rods” these move your lifters which open and close & open the intake and exhaust. I would also assume the engine is a diesel like engine that uses compression for combustion. The purpose of these massive engines is to compressor ng (natural gas) and pump it farther down the line. They are made of robust thick iron parts and they operate at low speeds with proper lubricant this engine could probably last for ever
