    So glad you didn't get blown off a cliff, and I know you are, too!!! Sometimes it just makes sense to change your plans. The Easter sewing card is really lovely, but they're all a lot of fun. I know what you mean about just enjoying a "mindless" craft - I love to needlepoint for that reason - once and a while you have to figure out where to place a stitch or do a different stitch, but much of it is very soothing to do without any big decisions to be made or difficulties - and it always fits, ha, ha! Good save with that purchased top, but don't be too hard on yourself for buying something - sometimes that makes sense, too!

      Thanks so much for your comment. I still get nervous when I hear wind now as it takes me back to the 'cliff moment'! You are so right about mindless crafts, often repetitive ones are the most soothing. I had to do a lot of hand stitched hems last night and I really got 'lost' in it 😊. Thanks for your reassurance on me buying an actual garment! I just loved the fabric, I do buy jeans however and sportswear etc as you just can't those types of fabric. Thanks for watching 🧵😊

    The "windy cliff" footage sent shivers down to my fingertips! That would have scared me to death. Chris was very brave! LOL. Great job remaking your store-bought blouse....so cute now! Love the colors and style of the top in the last shot of your holiday. Your needle punch embroidery cards are so gorgeous. I feel guilty cause I make some in the hoop embroidered cards. Kind of feels like cheating after seeing yours...the machine does all the work.

      Everytime I play that video back I almost get PTSD from that walk, the sound of that wind! I remember Chris and I had to shout to be heard 🤣. That t shirt at the end of the photos was my favourite fabric and just before I went away I got a blue version of it and made another T shirt . I would love to have a go at doing embroidered cards on the machine, but these are fun to do when I am 'on the move'. I really should do at least one in the hoop project but I am limited to what I can do with a 4 inch machine! Have a great week 🧵😊

    Carole, that was a FABULOUS idea to refashion your beautiful blouse with back ties in the seams. Sometimes just a minor change can make all the difference. I know Chris is going to have another very Happy Birthday with your Burda YOUNG turtleneck. I remember last years music shirt. AMAZING! Cardmaking is another craft I'd love to start some day. A couple of the girls I go to lunch with make cards. Yours are so beautiful. Have a happy sewing week! 🥰😍♥

      Thanks so much Grace, it is a technique I use a lot as so easy to make a top less voluminous 🤣. I hope Chris feels like a spring chicken in his new top! Making those cards are so much fun but I'm sure your embroidery machine would do a far better and quicker job than me, it would be fun for you to have a go at with your craft ladies one month. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great week too 😘❤️🧵

    The peg dollies as you call them, are to keep your bobbin thread attached to your spools. You have to squeeze them quite hard sometimes to get them in, but it’s nice to always know what thread your spool has on it.

    Carole, what an excellent refashioner you are! The top looks so much better when you were done. Many of us seamstresses I believe, probably would have cut many inches of fabric off the sides and not put on the ties to make it smaller. Clever idea, that is why I love Friday sews and watch as many of the Friday Sews videos as I can to see what new ideas I can learn and use in my own sewing. You are one of my top 3 Friday Sews seamstresses and never miss your videos. As for your holiday adventure pictures, I love seeing them as if I am seeing the world through your eyes. I am so blessed that you and Chris are safe and made the decision to walk back down the mountain, just showing us Chris and how strong the wind were, you are both so lucky to tell the story. Do you know if you made the decision to come to Florida in March for the Sewing and Quilting Expo? Well, thank you for all you have taught me, the wonderful holiday adventure stories, and all your sewing pattern suggestions.
    Take care and have a good day.

I am so glad you enjoy my holiday photos still and aren't getting bored of them. That wind, I am still getting flashbacks 😆💨 I am just so glad we had the sense to turn round and not be all macho and carry on. Sorry I forgot to say about the Expo. Sadly I will not be in Florida for the Expo and it is kind of unfortunate in a way as we are actually coming to Orlando the following weekend for a big family holiday! My daughter will be 30 so we are all going together, if only she was born a week before it would have coincided with the Expo 😆. I know a few of the others are going though if you are. xx

    Hello, Carole! Your cards are beautiful! They look so complicated, but I know they’re not. They will make nice keepsakes for someone. Good job on the alteration of your top, it looks great! Your husband’s shirt looks so comfy, he’ll enjoy it. That blue fabric will make a comfy sweater dress, if you have enough fabric. Your plans of buying from small businesses is exactly what I do most of the time, there are so many that are struggling now. My husband has put me on pattern and fabric ban for this year, but I really can’t blame him. It’s just so tempting to buy more and more! So glad you enjoyed your holiday, the pictures are stunning. That wind! So terrifying near the cliff! Smart to stay away! Have a great weekend.

      It is a bonus when something looks complicated and it actually isn't 😆Re fabric buying, the trouble with doing a Google search is all the big companies just pay extra to come up first so I really am looking forward to looking a bit deeper. Ideally I would love to shop in person but we just don't have that many fabric shops where we live. So funny that your hubby has put you on a ban, I am thankful that Chris never looks in my cupboards! Thanks as ever for your comments, I really do appreciate your loyalty and chatting with me. Carol, the first rule of shopping for garments is to try them on. Sizes vary widely from brand to brand, sometimes even within brands. Having said that, your transformation is wonderful! Isn't it funny the rules we sewists make for ourselves. It would make an interesting thread to have people list them, with their cheats!

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Katherine. I have to say that it was from a brand I used to get all my clothes from and I mean all!!! I couldn't try it on at the time as the shop was at a train station and we had to run and get the train. I bought it knowing it would be long on me but it was the fabric I loved the most. Perhaps I should have explained myself a bit better in my video 🤣. You are right about sizing though, in every shop I was always a different size. Thanks so much for your comment 🧵😊

Not very Gone With the Wind . . . but, honestly, who can beat Scarlett in the southern belle category??? She set the bar far too high for this southern gal. Welcome back, Carole! Glad you enjoyed your vacation and decided not to walk out to the cliff edge!!!! Your stitching cards are beautiful. So sweetly personal and very unique. 🥰💌 The fabric in your subscription box is beautiful and would make for a nice jumper top. The spool/bobbin holders I had ordered years ago, but found out quickly that you can't use them with a thread peg board like you have on your wall. I now use drinking straws that just fit over the pegs and through the spools and bobbins. (Had to buy a 2nd box at a different store because the first set of straws were too narrow to go over the pegs.) I cut them down to about 5 inches long; can get 2 per straw. For about US$1 per box of straws, that is about 200 holders -more than the spool pegs I have. Works great and I never have to look for the matching bobbin thread. Happy birthday to Chris and so glad you have Adam to help with questions re: men's clothes makes! 😊 Valentine's Day and Chris' b-day coming up - so much to celebrate! How wonderful!!! 🎂🎈🎁🥳🥰❤💌

      Hi Dori, can you imagine if we had been blown off! No one would have known about us as we hadn't told anyone where we were going, I can see the headlines now 😆. Others have told me about those bobbin pegs and you are right, I don't actually need them as i store both bobbin and reel on those spikes on the wall. I like being able to grab a colour and bobbin and go, I hate having to wait to wind one. Sounds like yours are a bit more secure than mine with straws, mine just lean perilously over! Feb Hope everything is good in your world and have a super weekend 🧵😊xxx💞

    I love your refashion of the blouse,such pretty fabric. I am so glad that you came back to us safe and sound,I recall a trip to Lindisfarne where the wind was so strong we were able to lean in to it and not fall over.🤣 I have a subscription box but to my shame the fabric is mounting up and going unmade,probably because although lovely it has not been chosen by me.Your idea is a good one!Thank you Carole.💖

      @socarole66  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was such pretty fabric wasn't it, I couldn't resist it as I never seem to find fabric like that. I had to look up where Lindisfarne was, not surprised that it could be windy being on the top East Coast! The power of the wind can be awesome can't it and your realise how insignificant you are 😆. Although subscription boxes are such fun to receive, as you say you can end up with fabric that just isn't right or needed. At least now I can buy fabric that I want but it won't be as fun will it. Always a wise idea when adventuring to know your limit and stay within it! Had to make a similar choice when on a winter hike into the Grand Canyon a few years back. I kept saying to our guide that while I appreciated his vote of confidence around how far I could hike down, I was concerned that what goes down must go up 😅. Thankfully, I made it back to the rim. Not windy just steep, narrow, long and a bit icy. On sewing, I make turtleneck Marino wool shirts for my hubby and he absolutely loves them. I know your husband will appreciate a warm shirt too.

    Yes, the bobbin buddies go through the bobbin then spool, to hold them together. 🧵 I think Evelyn Wood once said that after a refashion the garment is her design, so she puts her own label in it. That refashion is your make, now. 🪡 Nicely done! Have a great week! 😊-Deborah

    Love the refashion - it’s so much better now!! The sweater you made for Chris is awesome. Very cool fabric! The cards are gorgeous and they do look so complicated and difficult to make. I have no suggestion for the stretchy « cord » LOL It is a very strange fabric! I have a feeling it might end up on your wheel next year 🤣 Have a good weekend! Xx 💞

      Hi Izzy! I do hope that Chris likes the jumper and doesn't think it is too girly. It has been years since he has had a jumper like that! Honestly those cards are so easy to do, they just look hard😆. You do need to concentrate though and be super accurate with the holes. You will be proud of me, I just did not want that fabric turning up on the wheel and it was so fat I just wanted it sewed up so cut out something tonight!!! Lots of people have said they have used similar and it was lovely so lets see.....time will tell. Hope you also have a good weekend. xx💞xx

    Nice refashion Carole - I like the idea of the ties at the back. Simple but very effective 👍. Your hubby’s top is great. I’ve only done pjs for my husband so far…not sure I’m brave enough to tackle something that he’d wear ‘out’ !! 😄

      I am sure your Hubby would wear your clothes out with pride! Chris is always so happy with whatever I make for him ( or he appears to be and is a great actor!). Try a T shirt for him, that is easy enough and if I make anything for Chris I always check the finished sizing against his 'bought' stuff just in case. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend 🧵😊

    Hi Carole! What a great re-do you did on that blouse. I'm sure that Chris will love his new sweater. I have enjoyed all the sewing boxes I've seen on-line but I never subscribed for myself because I always thought they were just too expensive. Nice but just too much $$. Besides, I like to choose the items I buy. I think you've got a great idea about finding the smaller shops on-line and buying from them. I haven't bought fabric on-line but I've bought other things. Oh my gosh! That wind!! You're lucky you didn't get blown right off that cliff!!! Whew!

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Deb! You are right about those sewing boxes being expensive and you definitely over pay for the fabric but what you do get is the element of surprise, that I will miss! I am looking forward to having the excuse to look for fabric myself 🤣. Honestly that wind sound, every time I play back that video I am filled with the horror of that walk, so glad we admitted defeat and turned back 👏🏼. Hope all is well with you all and it's nice and warm for you now. We still have mild temperatures over here, odd for February. Have a lovely week ❤️😘 xx

    Regarding the fabric you got in the box- I think it would make a really nice pinafore dress. That way you could pair it up with a nice, contrasting top.

      @socarole66  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, that would be an interesting idea, it would work better if it was a more structured cord. This is ridiculously stretchy so I think whatever I make it will go out of shape very easily 🤣. Thanks so much for watching and have a good weekend 🧵😊

    The sizing recently is the reason I learned to sew garments! You really turned that top into a flattering top on you, it's beautiful! I love that Butterick 6859 on you, I have attempted one and it was a disaster! The neckband in the pattern its too long and too wide, and even with shortening it and doing the 85-90% of the neckline trick, it gaped horribly🤣I will try it again though, because I love it on everyone I see with it! Hubby will love his "young" turtleneck, for sure, it looks so cozy!! When I saw that new fabric you received all I could think was comfie blankie!! Maybe for Mickey?🤣😂Looks like you had an amazing holiday, good for you! Happy Sewing!💞-Mary

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much for your comments Mary. Argh shop sizing is ridiculous isn't it, every brand has different sizing! I still can't believe you had a fail with 6859, I don't think I have ever had to alter the neckband BUT it could be that there is a mistake in your sizing. The other thing is the fabric could have been too stretchy. Re the thickness, I find I have to slim down neckbands all the time as I think, the wider they are the more chance of gaping there is. Oh I hope you do make it again and have success. So funny you said about a blanket for Mickey with the fabric, that would be one expensive blanket for him....that he would chew to pieces 😆🐶. Happy Sewing to you too! 🧵😊

    Carole, Chris is going to be absolutely thrilled with the shirt. You did a great job on it. WOW! The ready to wear top is really pretty and looks great on you since you re-sized it. That refashion worked really well Carole. It's much more wearable now and great use of the fabric too. Hubby's top looks nice and warm too.
    That corded jersey looks like some I got about 4 years ago. I made a toaster sweater in it and I have to say it's the warmest, comfiest, sweater and it washes really well and it's kept its colour too. I would make loungewear.
    How lovely to see beautiful lanzarote again. What gorgeous cards!!!!
    What a wonderful idea to spread the love to small sewing shops. I can recommend jennystitches shop. Lovely lady, based in Cumbria, speedy service and she does a Friday night live at 5pm on Instagram to show new fabrics and has a TH-cam channel too.
