  • Here’s the start of my second bird and nest slow stitch piece for Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery Field Notes project inspired by Edith Holden and hosted by the fabulous Sarah ‪@roxycreationsbysarah‬ and Rachel ‪@roxycreations679‬ Be sure to check them out as they share wonderful slow stitching videos and host fantastic projects that anyone can take part in.
For this #roxysjournalofstitchery field notes bird and nest piece I will be honouring the beautiful pink Robin or pink breasted Robin. I am captivated by the nest which is covered in moss and lichen. I love wandering through the mossy lush forests in the dandenongs and admiring all the mosses, lichens and fungi. Tiny worlds within worlds.
So I couldn’t resist the idea of putting into action some of the wonderful tecture techniques I have built on after attending the art retreat with Fleur Woods at Green Door Studios earlier this year.
In this piece I will be creating a slow storch and fibre art wonderland with a moss, lichen and fungi border around a vintage or antique image of a rose Robin, it’s mate and it’s beautiful nest.
In this video I show you tutorial style how you can add punch needle fibre art to your slow stitch and create fabulous texture easily.
    I hope you enjoy watching.

Lovely texture Christine, punch needle looks fun and nice fast way to give your work a great look. Nice to see some photos of lovely Trav smiling for the camera. ❤

Trav sends you a nose boop - we went exploring along a new river area - very enjoyable even if we were both a bit muddy on our return. Punch needling is a great addition to our fibre arts 🤗

This is wonderful! I recently found my punch needle things from decades ago - even have a little battery operated gadget and the batteries were terribly corroded! I cleaned it up, put it away and there it sits! I made several Christmas ornaments when I first got it but !haven't been inspired again until I watched this I love what you are doing!!! I have had health problems for several years but am making my way through the sewing room again! This is so inspirational! Look at all of these exclamation points. LOL!

Thank you Christine for your video. What amazing texture. I never considered punch needle before but I did not know you could get needles for wool , I always assumed it was stranded cotton, add it to my shopping list. Loved the photographs yeh fungi !! And of course the handsome boy Travis. So glad to hear your dad is continuing to improve. Hugs to Travis.

Love what you’re doing here. Thanks for showing us - I’ve got a punch needle kit that my daughter bought me for Christmas but haven’t used yet, but I’m now tempted to get it out of the cupboard and give it a go 🌼

I’ve done some needle punch in the past and have all the tools. I might have to pull them out and give this technique another go. Your piece is coming along nicely. Love all the different textures.

To keep your fabric tight , try a small strip of paper towel under each clamp. Works for me

This looks so much fun. I had heard about punching, but had not looked how. Do you use DMC thread and Ada fabric like for cross stitch? I will go back and watch your videos. Thanks so much. Subscribed! ❤

Thanks so much. For punch needle work I use a cloth called monks cloth and a variety of fibres from dmc floss through to wools, including combinations of fibres at the one time. Cheers, Christine
