Damn, jones' theme really lends itself well to the hurdy gurdy, those drone strings really make it sound similar to the organ from the film.
Fun fact: Hurdy-gurdy was the instrument used in churches before pipe organs became more widespread. Back then it needed two people to play.

I have three questions: 1: where to get hurdy gurdy 2: how to get music for one and 3: is it easy to learn how to play one?
1. The "normal" way would be to contact any luther and have one build for you. This can usually takes up to some years and is quite expensive (which is normal since it's an expensive instrument). You could look aroung for secondhand instruments sold by tutors or the facebook 'hurdy gurdy marketplace'. Since i don't know anything about your regional market sadly i can't be anymore specific. There is also a DIY kit 'nerdy gurdy' which seems to be a cheaper option to get into and learn about the instrument.
2. Since a hurdy gurdy got a full chromatic scale you can play pretty much anything on it, depending on your tuning and theoretical musical knowledge. But let's just asume you get a standart instrument and use standart strings you can use the melody part of any piano sheet you want and there is alot of those avaiable online for free (e.g. the links in the description).
3. As with most instruments it's 'easy to learn, hard to master'. Learning an easy melody for the first time can be done in an hour even by a beginner. Playing an complex song with big jumps while playing an interessting and steady pattern on the trumpet on the other hand is difficult and requires multitasking and alot of practice.

Hey, glad you enjoy my content.
There is not much sheet music for hurdy gurdy around on the internet. Some musicans and luthers do sell some books (with mostly classical music) but i don't own any of these.
I mostly just use piano or violine sheets which can be used without much alterartion for the melody most of the time and i try to link these sheets in the description of my videos.
However i did write and upload some sheets over here musescore.com/user/29071133/sheetmusic . But since i'm not any good at writing sheets it's (like my videos) just some reminders for myself to help me practice.
Hope this helps a little. But if you get stuck with a specific song or if you got any more questions feel free to ask me. I'll try my best to help.

Best place to get a high quality instrument is to buy directly from a luthier in your location.
Second hand instrument which are often sold by local tutors are usually a little cheaper. You can check the hurdy gurdy marketplace on facebook aswell.

@@thekingpotato3573 Shipping costs might not be that much of a problem since the instrument is expensive anyways. Canada and USA might be a little much so. Never the less if asked most luthiers from around the world might sent you your instrument via mail (e.g. 220€ at ancestore.eu/en_US/p/Hurdy-Gurdy-Saphona/54).
The downside is it might not be as easy to communicated and plan the instrument.
What are your thoughts on fairy gurdys? Are they any good for beginners on a budget?
I have never seen or heared a fairy gurdy in reallife.
That said i just took a look at the latest offical videos and the etsy page.
In my opinion the offical sound samples do not sound good, espacialy the trumpet (which doesn't seem to be included in all models). Whether that's due to the instrument or the recording is hard to tell.
The overall buildquality does not look good to me aswell. In the videos the wheels appear to not be round, the string attachments and bridge do look a little odd at places and the tuners will be a lot of work to use since they seem to be classical ones (which is normal for the price i guess).
obviously the price is very cheap which might but all that into perspective.
But honestly i can't judge the instrument properly without playing it.
I also want to tell you about the nerdy gurdy (which i also never heard or saw in reallife) which sounds a little better to me in recordings.
The DIY kit is also even cheaper and teaches you alot about your instrument and make it easier to build up the courage to tinker with the instrument when needed, which was something i was a little afraid of with a more expensive insturment in the beginning.
The pre build NG BASIC seems to sound (and look) even better.
There are also some reviews on youtube for the nerdy gurdy which might be worth watching.
Unfortunatly i can't give you a honestly profound opinion on the topic. The best way to judge a instrument is still to play it.

And even if I did buy one, I’d be concerned with building it myself because I’m kinda incapable of doing something like that :0) if I had a decent sized budget and wanted to get a gurdy, where should I go? It’s hard finding options and figuring out what’s quality and what’s an over 1,000 dollar paper weight
@@llamaguy6054 from what i understood nerdy gurdys are still made and can be bought prebuild if you are blessed with to left hands like me.

Even prebuild the price is still quite good i guess.
Some luthiers offer cheaper models as well (those start at around 1500$ usually).
I obviously don't have a list of those luthiers on me all the time.
But ancestore.eu builds reasonably priced instruments and ships worldwide. And the instruments are definitly not paper weights, Michalina Malisz is the hurdy gurdy player of eluvetie and knows what she is doing.

Where could I pick up a good quality hurdy gurdy and where do you find music for it? I find this amazing and would love to get into it.
The easiest way to get a good hurdy gurdy is to get in contact with a luthier to have one build for you. Unfortunately that's also the most expensive way. You could also try to get a secondhand hurdy gurdy. The Hurdy Gurdy marketplace on facebook might be a good place to start looking. If you are lucky there might even be a tutor near you who sells instruments.
There is also a diy kit called the nerdy gurdy which seems to work for beginners. But i have never actually seen one.
Onece you have the instrument finding music is the easy part. There are countless websites which offer free sheet music or you could just go by youtube piano tutorials. It will obviously depend on the music you are looking for.
