      @@GoldenKingdom-kp6dt genetics has a big part to play, obviously. but other than that, i stick to low manipulation styles. any style where i can easily access my scalp and ends. mini twists have really helped with length retention. i’ll keep the twists in for about a month at a time, making sure to regularly apply grease to my scalp and ends. i even do my blow outs and silk presses with grease. less than i would use on my curly hair, but still enough. i like to wait at least a day between blow drying and pressing so the grease can soak in.
      i hope something in that randomness helped. 💀

    So many natural hair TH-camrs keep using this awkwardly. We never took a whole glob and smothered our hair with it. We put a little swipe on our scalp and let it comb or brush down the shaft. Maybe added a little light pink hair lotion to the hair and styled it. We never globbed grease on.

    I use Blue Magic! And I won’t say it “helps my hair to grow” but it definitely helps me to retain length. When I started using this my trims went from a couple of inches to centimeters! The trick I’ve found is to use it during the loc method with oil! But I don’t use a ton of it so it’s easier to wash out. I mainly apply it to my mid shaft and ends. And use more oil on my roots. And somehow it’s WAY easier to detangle my hair on wash days.

    Agree! I returned back to blue magic a few years ago. The key is not to put on scalp; shaft and ends only. Also, use a small amount not the plops we had in the past leaving you with tranfers everywhere. I just finished a container I've had almost 1.5 years now...use small amounts. Also hair grease is best removed by a sulfate shampoo. I would use a clarifying shampoo to wash the grease out my hair.
    1) Clarifying shampoo
    2) water or water-based moisturizer
    3) seal in moisture wirh grease.
    And thats pretty much the process! 😊

      @@11crystaln When I was a loose natural, yes I would always deep condition after clarifying, since a clarifying shampoo is very drying. I'm locc'd now, so my hair regimen has changed.
      I think it's good to alternate between a clarifying and moisturizing shampoo, because if you wash your hair frequently, then you don't always need to clarify.
      Since I've been locc'd, I alternate between the two, but I don't wash my hair once a week. However I will wash my hair as often as needed. The more active I am, the more I will sweat, which results in more washing! 😊

But if I learned anything now, it's that everything is not gonna work for everybody. Everyone's hair is different. Genetics and what's going on inside your body affects the way your hair grows more so than what you put on it.

    lol nah my hair was long as a kid (up until middle school when I started doing it) my mom would mainly use water, grease, that Africa's Best Kids Organics Shea Butter Detangling Moisturizing Hair Lotion (I just called it yellow moisturizer) and gel. She would damn near brush and style it everyday and it was long and healthy. Blue magic and I can’t remember the other grease she used definitely helped my hair I feel.

    Grease doesn’t grow hair…what is does it help with retention. Locking moisture in so your hair won’t be dry and brittle. Which causes breakage.

    • @BA-cs6xd
      @BA-cs6xd 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      You just described the way it grows hair... Grease-->prevents breakage and dryness-->hair is retained rather than broken off so that's why it's said it helps growing hair. Just like how peppermint oil or onion oil causes a reaction in scalp that increases blood circulation which causes growth. These methods or products only facilitate mechanism that create the results

    Omg! I also got some grease a few weeks ago, my single strand knots have been out of control and I didn’t know what else to try, so I decided to buy a jar for the first time in over 10 years. And wow! Im still experimenting with how much is too much but you really don’t need a lot. I gasped at how much you put on 😭 I’m traumatized too by the grease stains on pillows and clothes so I’m super careful; only the tiniest bit on my ends and I have tried it with the doux hair mousse which is what I usually use for twists and they actually mixed nicely, I also keep it far away from my scalp! Washing it out wasn’t too bad. I think it could be the key for single strand knots and friction as I’m all about trying to retain length. I can’t believe we’re all going back to the grease 😭😭

  • @xlazandriax
    @xlazandriax 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I think the reason being people think that grease can “grow” your hair because it’s a good moisturizer. In order to retain your length you need to retain moisture in your hair. Because if your hair is dry, it’s more prone to breakage, and grease keeps your hair moisturized for weeks on end. The less dry your hair is, the less it’ll break off. So that’s the science behind grease “growing” hair

    Pro tip: You dont need to use much grease... literally a dime sized amount per section.
    It will be hard to wash out if you are using quarter sized or larger amounts. You dont need to reapply once you've "locked in the moisture" with grease. Just spritz with water.
    Yes, you need a clarifying shampoo (preferably with sulfates) every wash day. Tbf, though, you probably won't have to wash more than every 2 weeks cause the moisture is so good.
    In your case, keep it away from your scalp so you won't have issues...
    You can definitely layer other stylers for twistout over it including mousse and creams. Can add a leavein conditioner under it for even crazier moisture.
    But yeah, wouldn't use it for a washngo.

    I use grease mainly on my roots and scalp to avoid dandruff. Idk if that would work for everyone but it does for me. I only use it after washing. Im not terribly active so wash day is every other week or so. I avoid getting too much grease on the length of my hair bcs i dont want it to give me acne. Oh and it just leads to it getting everywhere. A ring of grease on the face and neck, all over your ears, as well as stained shirts/collars

    I bought blue magic last weekend and I like it so far. I put mini twists in my hair (with some weave added for length), and my hair felt very soft after using the grease. I also found that the blue magic was perfect for doing twists with weave. Usually I use beeswax but I didn't need it after using the blue magic. So, I definitely will keep using it. Plus beeswax is hard to get out sometimes lol.

      😅 me too, I think we pivoted too much during the natural hair movement. We should have stopped at "Moisturising and sealing, your ends, protect your ends, low manipulation is the key to length retention. If you're alive your hair is growing".... Instead everything was upheaved, ingredients were demonised, every day a new hack from some remote countryside in Africa and Asia would pop up.
      I'm literally back to Tresemme and hair pomades, the very things I abandoned 10 years prior at the promise of long hair by the movement, but now I know to protect my ends and low manipulation.

    When my hair was long which was not too long ago, after washing my hair, I would moisten it with water, and add a leave in conditioner or hair curl define cream, I used Bella curls, it just kept my hair hydrated. And I could comb my hair and get those uniform waves. And I would do that and then add just a little bit of wet line external gel and a tad be of hair grease like African Best and when I undid my twist in the morning my hair would be so soft wavy and feel good, it would keep it hold and would last all week as far as moisture and softness, but like cause I sleep I’d probably twist it into a hair style in the middle of the week with just a little more water and Bella curls

    grease doesn't make your hair grow, but it allows for really great length retention. A lot of people don't realize that wording does matter, or they don't know there's a difference between "It made my hair grow" and "it helped me retain more length". But because grease is such a great occlusive, when paired with water and/or a moisturizing product (grease will not work if you don't have moisture and hydration underneath), it keeps the hair from drying out, creating split ends, and breaking off. Thus retaining length.
    Also vaseline and grease are great for the environment, because they are byproducts of that oil drilling process IMO. think about it, we are drilling for oil very often whether we get petroleum or not, all that unused stuff that doesn't get used after the oil is taken would just be sitting around doing nothing on the earth in the way of wildlife. The oil collection process is bad, but that's never going to stop, so i don't see the issue in being creative with purified by-products
