  • On our conclusion of the APRS topic lately, this video quickly shows the ability to have APRS visually on your android device, which also ties in to the APRSlink I previously showed. Email, messaging, mapping and more can be used much easier on the app instead of the front of the radio.
Below is the link for the free download. You can support the cause by buying it on the play store as well.

Eric, love your videos. Your APRS videos made me order 2 of those mobilinkd devices. One for the house and one for my car. 73

Can someone without a license with a scanner and the app just receive information on weather and other information? I take my test Wednesday so I want to get the full thing but have inlaws that I have been trying to get them into Ham. They are all over the US but everywhere has there bad weather and other things. Thought this would get them to look into Ham radio. What are your thoughts?

    Question about SSIDs:
Different video I saw discussed the thumbrule of -3 or -7 etc, that all makes sense. But if I assign my tablet, then my phone, then a different Droid device, do those SSIDs remain with the droid device or are they unique to the mobilinkd TNC or radio?
Also, just occurred to me, do we sign up for the SSIF somewhere like we did with RadioID for our DMR id? Or is it just assigned by ourselves at the settings inside Droid or tnc?

Another great video Eric, but this one leaves me with a few questions.
    1. I think I understand the Mobilkind device enough. I think it's a KiSS TNC, made to replace when you would use a Kantronics KPC-3 TNC?
    2. Where is the GPS in this set up? I have a Kenwood TH-D72A in the car, but I don't have anything on which I can see who is where. A tablet this size would allow me to take a glance when I was at a stop light and see if there is anyone close enough to call on 146.52.
    3. I see you're using a Samsung tablet. I have a Amazon Fire HD10, would that work in this setup? If yes, where can I get this $2 cable you mentioned in the video?
I have more questions, but I'd like to see if you answer these.
I'm going to go look at your other recent APRS videos and see if they answer any of my questions and or tie into this video.

I've used it a few times on mobile but not connected to a radio. I do plan to use it with a radio if I go on a long drive and see how many QSOs I have on the way

Hi there! This is KE2ACS/AG/DU1, and I'm curious whether you've ever noticed that the FT2/3/5 transmit at less than 5watts when using a mobile antenna. My setup consists of a Diamond SG-7900 on a magmount mounted on the second-floor wall with a 4 meter coaxial cable. On amateur frequencies, that antenna's VSWR measurement is less than 1.5:1. What are your thoughts on this observation?

I assume you could look at the map of an area hit by storms, earthquake, etc and message them to check their status.

I have been off the air since 81 and find myself starting over with all this digital stuff. I still hold my Advanced Class but feel like a Novice with all the changes that have taken place. What is this APRS and what does it do? Plain English, please.

I bet the CIA love it - knowing where all those survivalists are located at all times - and I can see some uses for tracking people in adverse conditions, but I can't see any very good reason to broadcast my exact location to the world at large.

I could never get my Mobilinkd to work with my Luiton 10 watt ht. I was able to use the B-Tech Aprs cable w/ the radio and of course APRSDroid.

3:05 "Bo-fung"? LOL! SAY IT WITH ME PEOPLE! "BOUGH (like a tree bough or the bow of a ship!) FANG!" "BOUGH FANG!" Baofeng is so fed up with people that can't seem to pronounce their name they actually changed it, not that any neophytes will be able to pronounce that either...
