    What's the difference between the APRS-K1 and APRS-K2? Would you know if one of these cables would work with a Baofeng DM-1801 DRM radio and a Android cell phone running ZELLO ?

    I just bought one of these cables and I am excited to try it out with my BaoFeng UV-82. I am going to use a RaspberryPI running DireWolf and a custom APRS client application that I built. I had been wondering how I was going to connect the radio to the PI and be able to properly trigger the PTT. I had tried using the one that came with my MobilinkD but it seems to only work with the MobilinkD. I hope this cable does the trick. 73

      Keep in mind that the 3.55 jack on the pi is audio out only, and to receive you would need a usb sound card with an input as well, and an audio cable splitter for input and output. This is probably the problem you faced with the mobilinkd, as it is the same cable.

    I'm using the BTECH APRS-K2 APRS Cable with APRSDroid and the UV-5R. I've tried recommended settings for Vox, Squelch and the Frame Sync but I can hear that the first part of the APRS packet is being clipped so it is not successful unless I physically hold down the PTT switch on the UV-5R. Any suggestions? I've monitored the packet transmission with another radio and it's very obvious. I can't seem to get past this clipping issue for some reason.

    Enjoyed your video. I just started to get interested in APRS. I also want to learn Winlink for sending emails over the radio. I just learned that there is a Android app for Winlink called WoAD. I dont know how to use it yet. But I will need to get the proper cable first.

    I'm using a LUITON LT-188H ht ( 10 watt supposedly) in conjunction with this cable. Also using a older cell phone (not activated) with aprs droid. Works perfectly. I wish I could say the same for the MobilinkD ( which I could never get to work at all.)

    In Settings / Connection / Audio Output, which one should be selected? I have Voice Call/Ringtone/Music/Alarm options.
    Thanks. :)

    If you can and are familiar with electronics, can you please try to open your cable and draw a diagram of the components, and how they are wired. I made myself two reduction cables witch reduces the volts to mic levels, on cable for the pc or phone to radio, and one for radio to pc or phone. But the problem is the baofengs are built that when the to grounds of the mic and speaker are shorted or connected it starts transmitting. The pc's mic and headphone outs are obviously grounded to the same ground. That's why I'm asking for a solution. Any answer will be appreciated.

      I had worked with CORs but not for this APRS cable. The Mic (-) gnd is connected to SPKR (-) gnd. PTT should be left unconnected if use VOX, which is this case. Miklor diagram had MIC gnd showed shorted to PTT, but actually not in headsets. You can confirm it yourself, in your headset.

      Check out github.com/johnboiles/BaofengUV5R-TRRS . This repository has plans for a small pcb and what to populate it with to make your own cable if you want to.

    So, this setup basically works as an igate too, right? I live in an APRS dead zone, so I'd love to have this setup at my house to receive while I'm out and about.

    • @ModernHam
      @ModernHam  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While you can have it upload your position via internet, it will not transfer rf packets and upload them via the Internet. A raspberry pi combined with the baofeng or an rtlsdr will however make a great igate.

    • @AlexanderSpear
      @AlexanderSpear 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ModernHam can you recommend a raspberry pi? I have no experience with them. Also, I have a rtlsdr, but it wouldn't tx because it can't do that.

    • @ModernHam
      @ModernHam  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AlexanderSpear I've personally used the raspberry pi b2 as an igate, but it does require a bit of computer know how to get it setup and working. The RtlSdr makes an excellent igate because igates are receive only. If you're looking to transmit as well, you would be making a digipeater. The RtlSdr combined with any radio that can transmit with an audio interface is an excellent combo for a digipeater. This allows less packet because the radio loosing packets switching between send and receive on it's own.
