Storm Isha: Parts of UK hit by strongest winds in decades - with Storm Jocelyn on the way

- Four people have died in the UK and Ireland as Storm Isha's 100-mile-per-hour winds tore down trees, caused transport chaos and left hundreds of thousands without power.
Some areas in the UK experienced the strongest winds they've seen for two decades and another named storm is on the way.
Storm Jocelyn is due to blast the UK and Ireland with more strong winds and heavy rain tomorrow.

I was in the UK visiting some family a month ago when winter storm Gerrit hit. I honestly did not know the UK got strong windstorms of this scale. I’m American and we get strong storms like this often. But the UK? I was just expecting cold rain…

Unless they really have to it's usually to show how macho they are. We've had mini ice ages lasting for 50+ years in the last 1000. To be honest the weather forecast for the coming week is generally a joke yet they pretend to forecast months and years!

Strongest winds in decades? The south was battered by 120mph winds in 2022 during Storm Arwen… didn’t realise that was decades ago 🙄
Edit: actually it wasn’t Arwen, it was Eunice, the 2nd of 3 storms that occurred close together in February 2022. Ripped the roof off the O2 arena in London and blew over nearly every fence in my street. Probably would have taken down the local trees, too, but they’d already been cut down so houses could be built in their place.

This was not the strongest wind in decades. The winds that I let off in bed every night are much stronger!
And the thing nobody wants to mention in relation to flooding and soil erosion: upland grazing, particularly by sheep. Unless we get serious and address the upland grazing problem and focus on upland reforestation/regeneration, flood prevention schemes will be compromised and of limited value due to uncontrolled and pulsatile runoff. Soil erosion and sediment deposition in lowland rivers will continue to worsen without responsible water catchment management

We have it here over Noway now. Forecasted to be some heavy rain tonight. Looks like the wind is maybe a bit less forceful by now. But there were a plane that went off a runway, a bus blew off at a mountain pass road and toppled. Also many communities isolated because of blocked roads..
I do wish people would understand that the word forecast doesn't have any alternatives. Similarly the plural of aircraft is aircraft with aircraft's being used for parts of.
