You create some of my favorite whiskey content. Nice job, Peter!
Wow, thanks! I appreciate the support. Cheers!
Yes, glad you decided to do that. It’s a great way to find your favorite and let them fight it out…. Great bottles you picked. Can’t wait to see where you take it!! I also helped out SLB a while back… Kurt said I should start my own channel….. haha. Cheers brotha, Peat Hawk… that’s good stuff.
Thanks for the suggestion. I would like to see you start a channel. Take the plunge! It's a wild ride!
What fun!
It was. There are a lot of good blended dottles out there. I need to pick up more. Cheers!
Like what you've done...very informative. Great place to get ideas about a good blended whiskey. My motive is gift giving for folks who like Jameson and Crown...trying to expand palates. 😁
Thanks. It's a neverending challenge to try and expand the palates of others. Cheers!
Since The Macallan is my preferred single malt, Naked (Grouse or Malt) is the blended malt for me.
I was impressed with Naked. I keep waiting for a Macallan to pop up in my sip it or skip it wheel. Hopefully soon. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney One of my favorite finds a couple of years ago was the Famous Grouse 18 year-old blended malt (which I don't think has been bottled since the 2000s), especially since the store had slotted it with the "regular" NAS blend Famous Grouse (and that's what it rang up as!).
Excellent, I've seen JW at my local alcohol stores. I'll definitely give them a try!
When you pick up a bottle and try it let me know what you think of it. You'll need to be okay with peated scotch to like this one. IMO, It tends to be on the smokey peated profile rather than the Band-Aids and iodine.
You’re funny brother!!! The peat hawk??? Well, you hate what you hate as well as like what you like! Good thing I hate peat but like Pete!! 😂 See what I did there?!?!?
I see what you did. You did not have to ask. I get you.
Great video. Compass Box Spice Tree is my favorite blended scotch.
Thanks. I'll have to give spice tree a shot. I see it all the time. Cheers!
Nice comparison Peter 🥃
I cannot detect any peat in Monkey Shoulder and have not tried Campbeltown Loch. Other than that, JW Green Label is my No.1 pick. I love what Talisker and Caol Ila bring to the blend.
My favorite blended malt ever is the Compass Box Oak Cross. Unfortunately it has been discontinued. Compass Box Spice Tree is another good one worth trying.
I have only had one bottle of Campbeltown Loch, but it's supposed to have batch variation. The bottle I have is good, but not good enough to go back to all the time.
@lyacoubian, wouldn't you know that I've found two liquor stores near me with multiple bottles of of the Compass Box Oak Cross for about $50. So I should pick them up? :)
Agree on the Monkey Shoulder. Mostly just sweetness. You might give Copper Dog a try. :-)
Love the Compas Box Orchard House
It's going to be interesting to see how it stacks up against the other winner whiskey over the next few episodes.
Putting the glasses on a small lazy Susan and spinning it might help you to mix up and blind better
I have one, but I think I would spin it too fast and the glasses would fly right off. I'll leave the Lazy Susan spinning to ADHD Whiskey.
Just at give it a little SJ 😂
I had tried JW 15,CB,and Monkey Shoulder..if i would have to rate it
1)Compass Box
2) JW15
3) Monkey Shoulder
I thought the CB Orchard House was the stand out in this lineup.
Agreed
I love the North Star cambeltown 8 years blend but it is limited only have one bottle left must pick up a couple more while they’re still there
I'm not familiar with North Star. I'll have to check it out.
A good blind test with cheaper blended whiskies. Compass Box makes really good blends. I prefer blends with more character.(yes, I really like sherry and peat)
I have 2 favorite blends in the cheaper category: Old Perth CS (sherry cask) and Caisteal Chamuis (peat). If you spend a little more money on a blend: Old Perth Limited PX CS (PX sherry cask) or my favorite Lum Reek 10 CS Batch2. (peat and sherry)
I have seen Lum Reek a few times and you are not the 2nd person to mention it. Next time I see it I'll give it a taste. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney Since it is 10 years old - GlenAllachie / Billy Walker blend and even Cask Strength - and even peated - all in one. It's my favorite. Many more happy Whiskey Journey to you.
Great competition!
Thanks. Do you have a favorite from the flight?
The only one I have had is Monkey Shoulder, which I did not much like.
Also, the North star tarot the fool, six year blend
I'll be on the lookout for it. Cheers. Thanks for the comments. I appreciate the input.
Good to know since out of those 5, I only have the Compass Box Orchard and Monkey Shoulder.
It is going to be interesting to see how the Compass Box holds up to the other winners.
Try Teacher's vs JW Green.
I'll keep an eye out for Teacher's, but I don't think it's available in my area
And by the way, great video
Thanks. Cheers!
Not listed here, but I'm a fan of Copper Dog.
I don't think I've seen that in my area.
I was surprised you were getting peat on the Orchard House, but there is a very small percentage of Caol Ila in there. Well done.
Given the price on the Johnnie Walker, it doesn't seem to be a good value. It's the only one of these I've never tried.
I would agree with you on the value of the JW. Whisky is good, but the value is not. I think I channeled my sister's ability to detect peat when I called her out.
Frankly, both Monkey Shoulder and Famous Grouse are about the same as Dewars White Label. Nice a fruity. I'll admit it, I like the taste of Johnnie Walker Red. I know, I know, I have bad taste. But I like my JWR.
Your taste is not bad... it's your taste. That's all. You like what you like. No judgement from me.
@@whiskeyisajourney I feel like the JW Black is just meh. I hear the JW Green label is more smokey, but too many Scotch Whisky brands are just fruity and smooth, no character.
Interesting comparison, I rarely see Monkey Shoulder and Naked in a blind!
My collection has very few blended malts in it so I had to put them together. Naked stuck out like a sore thumb.
@@whiskeyisajourney those cover a lot of bases. Lum Reek is up there with Compass Box, but probably more along the lines of Flaming Heart.
Hi mr fasciano
Hi
I really do love your channel and appreciate the different whiskies you show. But man, lately, you have had so irish and scotch videos. I only watch your bourbon, rye, and American single malt videos. I just don't appreciate or like irish and scotch. I will keep watching your bourbon reviews everytime I see one come up.
My Monday series on single pot still Irish whiskey is coming to an end soon. I have a few more bottles to cover. Then I am moving on to 5 "international whisky" bottles. From there I have a long series starting on Single Barrel Bourbons that will run for about 3 months. So stick with me. Bourbon content is coming. Being a whisk(e)y promiscuous channel I will always cover may different whiskeys. Cheers!
I haven't even seen 8 seconds of the video. If there is a prime candidate for blending them all ... just saying.
Foreshadowing the glasspheming. I'm hooked now!
The wave forms of flavour caused interference and canceled each other. 50 percent of the time, it works every time ....
I got you! The voice in my head is telling me to blend at the end. I don't think I will forget to blend again unless I forget. 🤪
@@whiskeyisajourney don't stress it. No one can account for quantum randomness.
