Sean, I love your channel because it has almost nothing to do with gear. It’s not clickbait. It’s not 5 quick tips. It’s just thoughtful insights to take with you on your journey. I love that you dare others to think deep about themselves. We can spend HOURS thinking about gear, editing and techniques and not a single hour thinking about who we are as an artist
Sean. I've given the last 45 years of my life to pastoral ministry. I've been beat up, sucked dry, vilified, and tossed aside. But thankfully, three years ago, I discovered photography. As I near sunset I'm seeking and sharing God in new ways. CLICK!
I echo your sentiments exactly. Sean is a tremendous gift in photography and well-beyond photography. His previous experiences were shaping for this point in time. 🙂🙏
Sean is a gift beyond photography. I view him as an Ambassador of living a meaningful life. As creators, we derive significant meaning from our creations. Sean guides, inspires and at times kicks us to evolve so that our creations evolve. And, he is most definitely an accomplished photographer and creator. Thanks Sean. God be with you. 💯
Having been through that morning and into the evening, I can attest to the validity of what we have just listened to. I can also tell you that in reality, life is a never ending series of mornings and afternoons and there are no 'answers' but there is contentment.
Re visiting your old material, i really hope your journey took you where you wanted to be, and you have found more "happiness patches" along the way. This video reminded me that slow is good, and I don't really need to be ahead of anybody. It's my time, and my road.
Only God knows how many times I’ve watched this video; one thing I’ve come to realize is the number of times I watch ST’s videos in general. But this one in particular holds a special place in my creative soul.
Dear Sean, I’ve been an absolute fan of your work and you as a person. Your philosophy often very much resonates with my own. Self-reflection, vulnerability and unconditional kindness are so scarce these days, though I believe it’s what our world needs more than ever. I hope you never stop doing what you do, because it makes our world a little nicer. If things calm down (COVID wise) and you’re ever gonna visit the Netherlands, I’d love to show you around my city Utrecht. - Yannick
Good message. Stay open, create honest relationship w/ self and our work, then let go of things that don’t serve who we are (often external world stuff). Being present = no need to prove anything. I think a lot of our problems can be solved 1st through understanding of psychology of self, and 2nd through a search of a new philosophical meaning in pursuit of refining our gift. Deep work! Thanks for the message.
sadly I have stopped doing creative things due to this pandemic I have to sell all of my 2 lenses just to keep my head above water but kept my camera with me. Someday once I can afford just 1 lens I guarantee that I will be better because of all my struggle. I know that time will come but not today. thanks Sean for being my inspiration.
Don’t stop, get a cheap manual focus lens. I had to pawn my expensive Fujifilm lenses , so I am using a vintage MF lens that I picked up in a thrift store for $20. Sometime there is just no time to focus, but I take the shot anyway. Some of those totally blurry photos I like even more that way. Not having my AF lenses was actually an opportunity to be more creative with my photography.
Sean, Wonderfully said. This really resonates with me. I’ve just left a 45 year career in public health. Obviously there is so much work there to still demand our attention. But i’ve appreciated we’ll only have brief “afternoons” so if i was going to give it any real effort, i needed to cut loose from that and grapple with my murky inner desires to find some voice with my photo work. Cheers, Craig
Thanks so much. I'm turning 60 and being constantly bombarded by the coulda, woulda, shoulda questions. With an autistic son to provide for I desperately analyse whether I've done enough to prepare him for the world when I'm gone. Doubt is weighing heavily with me at the moment and it's a bit of a struggle. This video has given me a new way of looking at things 🙏. Photography is a wonderful stress relief method for me. Wandering the city with a camera in hand is my happy place..and we all need our happy place.
Sean you are a gift - to those who love art, images, photography - and to those who hunger for wisdom, meaning and peace. Hugs, smiles and thanks from Australia.
Photography has been a hobby for me for a few years now, and your videos always help me let go of my inclinations of what it means to be a good photographer and worry more about the journey itself. Thank you.
Someone else said it, that was the fastest 20 minutes in recent memory for me. So inspirational and thought provoking, I will likely watch this multiple times over the coming weeks. Things seem to come together for me when hiking in the woods or sitting by a stream after a seed has been planted. I think that is where this leaves me. A seed planted and now comes the nurturing, the weeding, and the protection as the fullness of time passes. Wonderful video Sean.
Whenever I watch your videos, It's like therapy and meditation which is much needed for an amateur artist like me. Thank you for bringing such content to us.
I find myself saying "yes" "yes" "yes" its so true, no one else is saying this, your content is unique and honest and I feel we're all benefiting from it, I always watch your videos and sit back and listen because I know I will learn something about myself. Please keep doing what you are doing because it makes a difference.
Sean, you've made a brilliant video which points the way and encourages us to continue the painful, but essential, process of growth and maturation. "Those who would find their life must lose it." Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us and encouraging us to remain on the journey!
It's always good to watch you, Sean. Your words are kind and make me feel like I shouldn't worry too much. Instead I should give my best all times, trust the process and enjoy all the moments. Your videos make me remember that life is good. Thank you very much!
From my perch in the mid-afternoon sun (60, retired, hobbyist photographer) I found myself nodding like a fortune tellers' dog :-) Great episode, inspirational.
Sean, your entire body of work is incredible but this is definitely my favorite piece of work. I’m a fan and investor in your work and platform! Keep up the great work friend!
The connections are strong between: ego, narcissism, and codependency. For me, the sun reached it's zenith when I questioned why another's opinion is so important. I realized those opinions feed our narcissism, which in turn strengthen an ego that only serves to imprison our creativity. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
It’s not often that a TH-cam video moves me to (just about) tears but when you talked about the point in time when ‘... you feel like just walking away from all you’ve done...’; that put a lump in my throat. I blurted out a wry laugh and thought, ‘that’s me.’ I guess I’m at high noon. Thank you for explaining the ‘afternoon of life’ for me.
Amazing and very thoughtful Sean. Even my 15yr old daughter who was listening in the background said you were very interesting and much better than all the other channels that I watch which focus more on gear and technique. The ‘morning/afternoon’ you talked about made me reflect back to when I changed career after 13yrs in software to retrain as a teacher which I’ve been doing now for 13yrs. It’s so much more busy but so much more fulfilling. Thank you as always for your grounding videos.
That statement of enjoy where you are at is so powerful for this video. Your words are so powerful and I love watching your videos they push me to get better at my photography. Thank you so much.
Hi Sean, I'm studying online to make a late life return to photography, (more twilight than afternoon) and have found your videos not only inspirational and informative, but deal with the bigger issues of creative endeavours. Please accept my thanks for your amazing content, I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds your outlook and experience invaluable. Thanks
This is the kind of stuff you don't get from other photography channels. Tutorials and gear might be the how, but introspection and philosophy is the why. Thank you for such a wonderful video.
Your ability to talk to your viewers (to me) as if they are the only person in the room is amazing: it's so personal. You make me think... deeply... and, considering that I am in that phase that does feel like high noon (or close to it), you give me hope for this afternoon coming up. Thank you!
Sean, as UU pastor for many years now, and as someone whose love of photography goes back even longer, I want to thank you for your intelligence and heart. You are a natural teacher and I am grateful for your voice and wisdom.
I have watched countless hours of videos pertaining to both the technical aspects and the heart of photography, and this is probably the most important photography video I've seen yet. I am so very grateful to you for all of the insight you share with us here on your channel.
I always love your videos, but this has to be one of the best and most meaningful videos I've seen on TH-cam or just in general. I totally feel like I'm in this high noon part of life as you've described and trying to figure out how to move on. Very good stuff and great to know I'm not alone
Another outstanding resource for navigating life is Richard Leider's book: Repacking Your Bags. He defines the good life as "living in the place you belong, with the people you love, doing the right work, on purpose." And those are the 4 bags to repack when you ( like all of us eventually) have discovered the journey you're now on is not the one you packed for: Place, Relationships, Work and Purpose. I enjoyed this video, thanks.
Your monologues excavate my childhood memories. As a lapsed Catholic, I recall the men whose vocation was to imprint messages into the souls of captive congregants. I was never moved in any meaningful way. I wish I’d heard one your ‘homilies’ every week. I believe I would be a better person. That we would be better people.
Like your "Mentors" video that I have watched several times because it was so beautiful, I think I will be coming back to this one several times, but for different reasons. My studies of psychology were woefully inadequate, and there are some insights that I can really use, andI find things like this very useful. Keep going where you feel like going with these videos. Not every one needs to be full of contrasting colors and techniques. Introspection is good too.
I love your channel! It’s oriented towards our creative development as artists. I have to mention that I feel like a lot of photography channels are focused on gear and the material aspect of photography which in my opinion is 1/2 of what makes an artist. Your channel feels like it’s focused on the other half: spiritual and psychological growth which I appreciate and recognize as being unique and less frequently talked about! Keep up the good work! We love what you do.
Sean.. watching you brings about a sense af calm and helps my mind to focus on many possibilities. So glad you take so much of effort to reach out to all of us. Thank you 🙏
Thank you for being so genuine and inspirational! I look forward to experiencing the rest of your journey, it’s rare we see this level of genuine devotion to artists and I hope more young sensitive artist are inspired to keep going ! I look forward to the evolution of the arts!
So much truth in this video for both a photography journey and personal one. I'm closing in on 75. Personally, this struck a chord with me. Around 60, I think I was in my noon phase of life. I wouldn't have know that when I was going through that period, but now 15 years later, I can see it. Thanks !!!
I feel like I’m in the morning of my photography journey but it’s great to know that gear is not factored in on the knowledge and realization that your getting better, your work now is growing from your beginnings and your beginnings are who you were, a foundation to who you are now 😭😭😭
So much wisdom shared here Sean. From a guy in his late 20's it was really refreshing to hear this and know that I'm just in the morning of my journey :) Art is a journey
So beautiful, and meaningful words, the best words I’ve heard on TH-cam since a long time. And how true these are. Thank you so much for these wonderful, and certainly deep 20min in my life. It’s an honour to be able to listen to you. Thank you from my soul
Sean, you're a really interesting person, not just as a photographer, but everything surrounding too. Thank you for sharing this insight of yourself, gives food for thought.
You may not longer wear a collar, but you're still a preacher. I'm in the afternoon of life but still in the morning as a creative. I don't have as much time to grow as I would if I'd begun my creative life a lot earlier, but that's water under the bridge. I'm questioning what and how I really like to shoot and what I don't; how I like to process and how I don't. Now I realize, that's normal. I always feel inspired after watching your videos. Thanks!
Profound top level view. Immensely philosophical and deeply informative. Your sessions have kind of therapeutic impact on me and surely to many others. Feeling indebted. Thanks a ton.
Having lost my photo gigs through the pandemic shutdowns, I'm rebuilding to do photography just for my own enjoyment. Looking forward to the afternoon :) Cheers from Australia.
I'm finding it uncanny how every episode of yours actually nails me on my journey. I appreciate your words of encouragement to all of us and honestly, 2020 hasn't been all that bad when I get a chance to evaluate (painfully) my work and actually see some good in what I've done. Thank you Sean. Bang on as usual.
Sean, this video is very timely for my life. I have been struggling deeply in this area as I feel I have reached high noon and am now working through the shedding process and reevaluating what really motivates me and my work. Your way of opening this concept and applying it to creativity has been most helpful. Many thanks!
In my drumming life I learned what not to do in my new photography life. Exception is gear.... I like gear lol. Right now my photography is still juvinile in its age but growing up fast. If I like what I have made that is good enough for me until the next picture I create that shows I have grown some more. Thank you for your contributions to my growth Sean and I wish you all well.
Heartfelt thanks for sharing your thoughts and reflections with such a clarity. From the moment when one starts appropriating that the destination is the journey, feeling fulfilment in every single moment of life becomes consequent. The evolution of our photography documents our journey and shows how we reach the destination all along our life.
Thanks Sean. Really love your channel and have been a long-time student of Richard Rohr. A beautiful way to unfold the creative and human journey. Grateful for your wisdom. Peace.
Great insights, Sean! Just realizing that my creative morning took about 10-12 years, going through exactly the same thing right now as you described - minimizing gear i use, refining my messaging and style, gaining clarity on what part photography plays in my life! It's such a great analogy with the life journey 😃
Hi Sean I am approaching the night in my journey. A photographer and teacher for 60 years. I like how you reference Jung. As a photography teacher my main text was As You Think by James Allen. Basically photographers need to know all the camera gear is just a pencil. That a pencil cannot write a story and a camera cannot either. The most important thing any photographer needs to know is themselves and their place in the world and how they can make the world a better place. Jung talks a lot about the 'Collective' in which he describes how all humans are connected on a spiritual level through dreams, intuition and feelings. This idea changed my life because I could reflect on all the times people and ideas have magically appeared in my life. Yes, Jung's God, the collective, works through people, are the people and we are all one big family. This sobering and humble thought can help you realize, awaken, to the idea that we are all born to help each other, a network of kindness and love. So the meaning in your photographs helps inspire, educate and support others and is all about you tapping into yourself, meditation, and let the groundswell of needs, inspirations and joy flow for the benefit of others, which in turn benefits you the most because you have become a functioning member of the collective in the positive.
This is so true!
If you really like this type of content You'd be looking at smaller channels doing this kind of thing not just using Sean as an ego attachment.
@@ccc0mb0_bReakeR can you name some of these channels?
so true...this is refreshing and gives so much value
Absolutely right, Sean is the person who focus on the eyes and mind behind the camera.
Sean. I've given the last 45 years of my life to pastoral ministry. I've been beat up, sucked dry, vilified, and tossed aside. But thankfully, three years ago, I discovered photography. As I near sunset I'm seeking and sharing God in new ways. CLICK!
Sean, you’re so pure with your intentions. I don’t think you understand how inspiring you are to us. I, truly, appreciate your wisdom. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Pure with intentions. Thank you for finally putting words to my thoughts!
I echo your sentiments exactly. Sean is a tremendous gift in photography and well-beyond photography. His previous experiences were shaping for this point in time. 🙂🙏

I agree with every word you said.
These 20 minutes went by so fast
Wow. Glad you know him
@@SocPro yeah I had the same thought, don't know why but it felt like two of my good friends know eachother 😂.
I feel it's like that with every video by Sean
The pirate King is here 😂
Strongly agreed
I really think you have been my therapist these last few years that I've followed you. Thank you sir.
I find revisiting this video to be well worth the time
Well Sean, you’ve done it again - you’ve reached right through the screen and touched my soul. Thank you for all you shared!
Having been through that morning and into the evening, I can attest to the validity of what we have just listened to. I can also tell you that in reality, life is a never ending series of mornings and afternoons and there are no 'answers' but there is contentment.
I came for photography advice
I stayed for theraphy
😄
Mam tak samo! Wow
I'm curious to see what Sean's Ted talk would look like if he's putting out gold like this.
...rock solid priceless gold!
This is a million times better than a Ted Talk imo
Re visiting your old material, i really hope your journey took you where you wanted to be, and you have found more "happiness patches" along the way.
This video reminded me that slow is good, and I don't really need to be ahead of anybody. It's my time, and my road.
Only God knows how many times I’ve watched this video; one thing I’ve come to realize is the number of times I watch ST’s videos in general. But this one in particular holds a special place in my creative soul.
Dear Sean,
I’ve been an absolute fan of your work and you as a person.

Thanks Yannick. Yes I can't wait to travel again:)
Good message. Stay open, create honest relationship w/ self and our work, then let go of things that don’t serve who we are (often external world stuff). Being present = no need to prove anything. I'm a music producer, not a photographer, and this advice resonated harder than any advice I've heard in a long while.
I am delighted to watch these video after a month long exam. An awesome way to detox from the exam stress.

Same here - retired but in early morning creatively.
Gosh, I couldn’t have put it better. This is exactly how I feel......
Absolute champ. Have loved all of your videos. 👏
We all need to go off the grid. To breath, to reconnect, to live and love our own journey.
Namaste Sean
Nice one Sean. You’ve hit the nail on the head 👍
Keep it up 👍👍👍
Profound top level view.
This message cut deep. I needed this. Thank you.
Thank you Sean for taking the time to produce these videos and share them with us. It's a gift for so many creatives. ;)
Sean, this video is very timely for my life. I have been struggling deeply in this area as I feel I have reached high noon and am now working through the shedding process and reevaluating what really motivates me and my work. Your way of opening this concept and applying it to creativity has been most helpful. Many thanks!
Thanks!
Hey Sean, I really enjoy your content. Just wanted to say thanks for being so supportive and inspiring toward your fellow artists!
I only needed to hear you talk once and I already knew that you bring unique perspectives to every aspect of life and being a creative .
Another wonderful life lesson Sean.
That photo with the dude in a blue jacket is a textbook for us beginners💎
Thank you. As somebody who is still in the early my morning period (At the age of 60), I feel I have been given a helping hand up to my high noon.
