  • In this video, I demonstrate how to install an OEM GM Trucks storage box under the hood of my 2017 GMC Sierra, which provides a convenient storage space for tools and other items. This storage box is compatible with all pickup trucks of the K2xx platform, including 2014-2018 Silverado and Sierra, and 2014-2019 Silverado and Sierra 2500 and 3500. If you own a Tahoe or Suburban with the same spare battery tray and washer bottle location, this storage box may also fit your vehicle.
It's important to note that this storage box may not fit some older vehicles due to differences in washer bottle fill neck locations. I attempted to install it in a Yukon and a Sierra of the 2007-2013 body style, but it did not fit. However, for those with compatible vehicles, these storage boxes can be a great find.
You can purchase these storage boxes on eBay, although prices may continue to rise due to their popularity. For those who are looking for a more cost-effective solution, I highly recommend checking out your local junkyard or pick-and-pull. Often, customers pass by these hidden storage gems, and you may be able to find one still stocked with useful items like oil, transmission fluid, or ratchet straps.
Thanks for tuning in to learn more about this practical storage solution for your truck.

So I just went to my local pick and pull today to find one of these boxes to do exactly what you did. This was before I saw your video, so it was great seeing that there was someone else that had the same idea! Your video was fantastic, and helped me so much in deciding how to retrofit the box to make it fit my newer GM vehicle. Thank you for a well done video. Fantastic!!!

Thank you. I followed your steps and it all worked great. One add: I used some scrap sheet steel to reinforce the box floor since the tray isn’t flat. I sandwiched it between the truck battery tray and the bottom of the box. Great job on the video and detailed instructions. Saved me a ton of trial & error.

Good idea on the metal plate to reinforce the bottom. Then it can distribute the clamping force.

@@fr0stykrampus185 I bought one box on eBay, used, which I cleaned up and prepared for the same install as in the video - and another, a brand new OEM via a GM parts supplier (in case I screwed up the first one). Neither were cheap.
I still have the brand new OEM box if you're interested.
Unfortunately, I was only able to source one lid via eBay.

I got mine from a pick and pull. Or a junk yard, whatever you want to call it.@@fr0stykrampus185
