    The Great Empire of Mali was one of the largest empires in West African History founded by the Great legendary king Sundiata Keita, and at its height it spanned from the Atlantic Coast to central parts of the Sahara desert . The Empire’s most famous ruler was named Mansa Musa, and chroniclers of the times wrote that when he travelled to Mecca on a pilgrimage he distributed so much gold that he caused great inflation lasting a decade . Now that is what we called wealth. It also produces legends like Mansa Wali, Khalifa and Mansa Magha. This is a great land my brother. Great job showing us history. Stuff like these are not shown on western television, unless if they are reporting negative news.

    • @maatrekanefer3237
      @maatrekanefer3237 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There was no an empire named Mali, the west Africa empire was Mandingue Empire not Mali. You should listen a bit the the talking, Mali is a new name of a part of west Africa but the mandingue empire was spread in all west Africa (Guinea, ivory cost, Mali, Sénégal, sierra Leone, etc..), and the capital of that empire was in actual Guinea.

    I just love the way this brother relates with the motherland. So open and ready to learn and showing a lot of love and respect for the local populace. You will find Nigeria and Nigerians very interesting too if you go to the right places at the right time. Some suggestions for ya when in Nigeria. 1. The Osun festival and grooves in Oshogbo, Osun state. The palace of the Ooni(king) of Ile Ife, the arts and crafts markets in ife
    2. The Oba (King's) palace in Benin, the Bronze casters market all in Edo state Nigeria and 3. The Durbar festival in Kano state of Nigeria but avoid a city like Maiduguri in the North East because that's Boko Haram territory. Then there are interesting cities like Abuja, the country's capital, Lagos the commercial capital; Calabar and Portharcourt in the South south of Nigeria. There is also the badagry slave port in Lagos state Nigeria. There are many more interesting places too but Nigeria is such a vast country so my advice to you is to hook up with a reliable guide before traveling. You will be safe.

    Great video man! I just wish we got to see inside traditional houses and look at how beds and kitchens looked like. Some small corrections regarding the Mosque of Djenné 1) It used to be a Palace of a Sultan Kunburu , once he converted to Islam he changed his Palace into a mosque 2) Mansa Musa expanded upon the Mosque however he did not build it. 3) The current Mosque we see before is actually a reconstructed one under French Colonial rule due to deterioration and no maintenance, however contrary to what white supremacist say, the building is still 100% of African creation and is an exact re-creation of the Mosque maid by Sultan Kunburu 4) It’s actually the largest mud-brick building in the World... period! A pretty impressive feat!

    • @eurocrime8992
      @eurocrime8992 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not the exact re-creation, that's impossible. Moreover, French ethnologist Michel Leiris, in his account of travelling through Mali in 1931, states that the new mosque is indeed the work of Europeans. He also says that local people were so unhappy with the new building that they refused to clean it, only doing so when threatened with prison.

    • @qus.9617
      @qus.9617 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eurocrime8992 An unpopular comment. But if one loves history, one must honest with oneself. There are plenty of online references discussing the French influence on the restored mosque of djenne as well as its prior disrepair and usage as a graveyard. I myself don't want to believe it, but facts are facts.
      For example, when the three halls of the forbidden city were not restored due to lightning fire/superstition/mandate-of-heaven. They used prior blueprints and understanding of the standard code usage of number of bays, columns, dougong bracketing system, tier-roof system [hierarchical building code of important buildings] and it's geometric position in regards to the courtyard, marble stone base and rest of the buildings to faithfully rebuild them in the Qing dynasty. For example, the number of bays we know from standard procedure and from there, it is the bracketing system which is the same as the rest of the complex, paintings for reference, the number of roofs to signify the importance of the building etc. That's how you know a building is faithfully restored.
      What I am trying to say, is where was the trail of documents that the builders could work with to restore the building after such long disuse? It isn't an exact recreation unfortunately but I don't think it's the right approach to use history revisionism because it might hurt some people's pride.

    Sudan was the general name given for most of west Africa, you'll see this on older maps especially before wider colonialism, Sudan is from Arabic meaning 'land of the blacks'. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudan_(region)

      Choclit west africans never called themselves sudan ONLY the people from mordern Sudan called and are still calling themselves Sudan. They used it to refer to Subsaharan africans. they also referred subsaharan Africa as Ethiopia

      BIZOU BRAZZA The Northen parts of West Africa were labeled West Sudanic because of the language family the people speak also. Nilosaharan languages and Chadic languages are associated with Sudan. The people migrated from Sudan......

      African Child yes Mali was Soudan before the independence. It was the French Soudan and they change it to Mali because of the Mali empire at the time of soundiata Keita.

    I've watched several of your videos, intelligent, investigative and informative. Well done and thanks. Hope you and many African Americans find their way back. You know they say Africa is the future. Much work needs doing on both sides but imagine the world with a united Black race of people. The Europeans do, hence their divide and rule tactics.

      Search for Uhuru No problem bro, I have one question though. When your tour guide was saying Mali used to be called Sudan. Was he referring to the West African Sahelian name "Bilal Al Sudan?" Which covered Northern Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, Mauritania,Niger, Burkina Faso and Chad?

    • @Searchforuhuru
      @Searchforuhuru  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, Sudan simply meant land of the blacks. Im thinking the empires in Africa that were Islam were called Sudan

    This is great videos of shown ancient African cities which had sophisticated architecture before colonial invasion and transatlantic slavery. And was taught when I was kid of Africans live in simple villages with no civilization until the British and other white people arrive in 19th century.
