Benin Republic is a small country on another level, a 3 hours drive from Lagos.. It is the definition of peace and tranquility. I love the old architectural designs, though the city doesn't really speak luxury but you can see that they pay attention to details. The country is clean and driving in this country is too sane that I was almost getting uncomfortable LOL. I have visited the country 3 times this year. Once I can't hold the Naija stress, I just take the 3 hours drive to cool my mind. I did some reviews of lovely places to visit there. You can check it out. . LOL But all in all. Well done Tayo you are doing a nice job. I can confidently say nobody does it better

@@Cleo1John It's ok to ask questions. Please feel free to ask there is Benin City in Nigeria. Benin City is the capital of Edo. Its made of up of a tribe with rich culture and people. @@Cleo1John Leke above has explained accurately. In addition, there are two Benins. One to the geographical left of the Yorubas in Nigeria and one to the right of the Yorubas, within Nigeria. The geographical coastal left of the Yorubas, the Yoruba coast itself, and the geographical coastal right of the Yorubas were, by Europeans, termed collectively, the Bight of Benin. On the left is now a country Benin Republic, named after that Bight supposedly, in the center are the Nigerian Yorubas, and on the right is the historical Benin empire, afterwhich the entire bight was named. Hope that helps.

I'm a Ghanaian that was born in Benin and schooled there at the famous Ekinous Bilingual Schools (which I'd like you to visit when next you go there...) and I was always travelling to Nigeria and I even stayed in Aja Illaje(Ikota) for some months. I stayed in Togo for some months too and now I'm back to my country Ghana ❤... My point is: we are distinguished by our various nationalities, languages, but the culture and our way of life is very similar... I wish you could visit the main capital of Benin which is Porto-Novo... You'll know that you're in a different country because of the serenity and fast movement of the traffic, but you'll still think you're in Nigeria because you'll meet one Yoruba person every 10 metres you walk... Nice video though ⚡... Too bad I saw it today 😢

There are loads of affordable hotels if you know your way around a place called John K. As you earlier said about the boarder, Nigerians part of the boarder is an eye sore. You will even see out uniform men physically fighting each other and drunk at the boarder. It’s a shame that nothing has changed since the 80s that I was there.

I was in Benin Republic in Cotonou in the early 90s from Lagos on a working visits and again in 2002-03 from UK where I have been sojourned for nearly three decades. I am thinking of retiring now and Lagos has recently been unattractive due to the current socio-economic & political intrigues. I have been thinking of Cotonou, a quiet, clean and peaceful location very close to Lagos outside Nigeria to invest in a very decent property in a top notch area and have my peace of mind. Fly into Lagos once in a while to attend events and family. I then saw this video that confirms my thought process. Thank you Tayo.

@Ayomide Ahmed, I know all the Western States like the back of my hand including Ondo state where my late mother hails from. When you get to the stage in life that I am at the moment where I can see 60 around the corner, jumping into a car 🚗 to attend to business or function in Lagos after experiencing transportation in Europe for over three decades is unappealing. For me Abeokuta is next location. If there was a fast, safe modern train link to Ibadan perhaps but ideally what is needed is a circular, regularly train that goes from Lagos to Ikorodu to Sagamu to Abeokuta back to Lagos. That will probably decongest Lagos. Irrespective of whatever is on the ground, for me safety & power (electricity) comes first and I am not convinced we have that yet in the South West.

Stumbled on this just now. You did an excellent job. However, on the hotels and restaurants, I think you visited high end places intended for foreign tourists. I can assure you that you can still get many excellent budget hotels in the range of $25-$50. And as you admitted too, you went without planning, which is not a good idea for a tourist. Lastly, you seem surprised to see people speaking Yoruba in Benin. Just like in Nigeria, Yoruba is the 2nd largest population in Benin at about 25% after the Fon accounting from approx 40%. 3 of 7 descendants of Oduduwa who founded Yoruba Kingdoms are located in Benin - Onipopo, Onisabe and Alaketu.

I was once in La Republique du Bénin in around 1998-99. Like most people said, it's a peaceful country, and people are friendly! I did visit Cotonou, Ouidah (visit the Temple of Snakes!), and far away, in the country of Kpomassé where I experienced the real traditions. The one thing that impressed me is that, at that time, when there was a limited number of cellular phones (do you remember those big cell phones?), not even accessible by everyone, I could use public phone to call Europe or the States in a village!!! Go figure! So I commend the responsible postal and télécommubication services! Several African countries did not have such accessible telephones! Another thing was the very fertile soil where vegetables and fruits are abundant, cassava (manioc), maniac, Gari and other tubercules fresh out the ground. As I would buy them far from Cotonou or Ouidah, imagine how cheap they were! The local beer and whiskies were astonishingly inexpensive, in CFA, at that time! Lastly, this is where I experienced Moto-taxis for the first time. It was fascinating and exciting, despite the red unpaved and dirty routes, those years, en route to Cotonou, from Kpomasse! Despite all, the country is clean and organized.
Merci beaucoup, Mr Tayo pour nous avoir permis d'apprécier le Bénin!
Bénin is such a beautiful country!

I lived for 7 years there. And i can say that it is a good place to get away from the stress of Nigerian politics. I hardly experienced traffic throughout my time there and their electricity is 24/7. For seven years i never used generator or solar nor powerbank. I didn't realise it until i came back to Nigeria😂. The people are nice and friendly. Though some locals can be very unwelcoming if they find out you're a Nigerian or if they know you can't speak their language but those ones are very few and you hardly run into them. Overall my fellow Nigerians reading this, if you're looking for a calm, stress free and peaceful environment with 24h electricity; then benin republic is the closest place for you.

It will expand economic activity within our own control and eventually force our governments to better manage.
I am looking forward for the days when young and old African tourists can move around Africa in large numbers, that will bring costs down.and efficiency will have to go up. All those impediments like excessive road blocks, and high transport and accommodation charges will be gone.we will spend our money in the continent supporting each other.

We call him "computer" can't recall his real name.( because of how enthusiastic/zealous he was in teaching french and marking our script. NB french is always the first script we receive after examination). That sparked my interest in learning french but dropped halfway when he left..will be happy if I could visit the country one day and probably meet him. Be sure to add that citizens of Benin republic are very receptive/accomodative as he demonstrated that throughout his stay....

Very nice video, I lived in Benin for about 4 years and you nailed it, many francophone countries still have close relationships with their colonies, which explains why everything is in euros. Also, when discussing most nice African countries that aren't designed for Africans, in my opinion, I'd like to point out that Neo colonialism still exists, economic imperialism, conditional aids etc, you will see alot of foreigners in these nice places which explains it.

Your very correct, as the French like to still have a chokehold on their Francophone countries.

We don’t have a close relationship with them we are their captives! We have been fighting to distance ourselves from them for decades actually…

@@KakouAmon2 Well, it still falls under close relationship, whether it has a good or bad history, and there is still an economic relationship/trade in existence today, which is a major contributing factor to our inability to distance ourselves, and this is the case with most African countries and their colonies, including mine, Nigeria.

@@mojisolahannah1057 Are you kidding me? I’m telling you these people are killing us and you respond we still have an economic relationship/trade? See, you can feel free to love your British oppressors if you want and call it a trade if that helps you sleep at night but we, former French colonies, are dying to get out of their reach so don’t spread misinformation such as we have a cLosE ReLaTionShIP with them, we are their slaves and we’d kill them at the first opportunity.

Benin Republic is my first home, from Seme to Hilakoji, is all fun, uninformed Transport Cyclist, clean environment, just a whistle blown from a Public Officer will catch everybody's attention.
Things are not that expensive, it's just that Naira messed up mercilessly 😂, in 1996 when i visited cotonou, I changed 160,000 Naira to 1 million CFA. But today it's equivalent. I always get angry when realizing that I'm paying 500 naira for Posotome (75 CL bottle water),
Thanks for showcasing my first home.
