Lucky you that you can still go. I did a California Superbike School level 2 last year at Phillip Island on one of their S1000RRs, unfortunately they’ve closed the school for all of 2021 because of covid lockdowns. The schools definitely make you a better road rider.
The improvement after level 2 is spectacular not only in times but also in the convenience that is done now compared to before, practice and after level 3. Very good video
Am enjoying this series, got his video on vhs many years ago. Just shows it’s the things we don’t think about that make a lot of difference to your riding
I love CSS, having gone to quite a few sessions with them (in the US). As you mentioned, you come away from each day with new awareness and new skills, eager to practice those skills on the road. In fact, the visual skills also improve your driving as well as your road riding. I can’t recommend the school highly enough. The S1000rr sounded great in this video. That engine pulls like a turbine.
Ha- opening intro, third bike back is me, doing level 1. My first time ever on a track. Was a fantastic day- didn't realise you were there or I'd have come and said hi. We've just done level 2- can't wait to do level 3 next year.
My main takeaway from this one was the peg thing. I new about putting weight on your pegs helps take your weight and lessen it on your wrists and back together with gripping the tank so you can relax more/easier, but how he explained how to use it in the bends was simple but great advice.
Top video! I spent many years after passing my test not looking much further than just ahead of my front wheel... going fast always felt unsafe (and it was, cos I ended up in a couple of hedges lol). It took a long time to figure out what I was doing wrong. I think next year may be the year of rider improvement courses 😊
@@matthartshorn9483 No worries, none taken! Because I didn't know what I was doing wrong, I couldn't explain to my mates why I was going slower than they did and having less fun. This was back in the 90's and we were all young and dumb. I worked it out eventually but who knows how many bad habits I've still got...
Just did level 1 at Sydney's Eastern Creek Racetrack... can easily say I was kind of a shit rider when I first got on the track in the morning, but after a full day...whoa...the difference couldn;t be more profound to my riding...
Did Mike have to wear the Pink T Shirt of Shame for coming of track? 🤣 I remember Duncan having to wear it at one CSS day I attended - might of been Donington or Stowe. Great, realistic coaches...can't wait for 30th August at Bedford Autodrome. 😁 Fabulous video too! Any danger you could share the camera/mount setup with us please? Clearly CSS have to be happy with the arrangement.
Goes to show how each discipline of riding street, track and off road has different mental approaches to get the best from the rider and the bike. This said bike setup also plays a major part in how much you can push a bike.
Did Level 1 at Laguna in 05. Keith was there and was every bit as cool as I had been told he was. Great experience, even if it was a bit more than the average track day. Cheers.
Level 1 many years ago was very fun. Keith Code is a great guy. Edit Putnam Park USA, The instructors were great about shifting from rider to rider raising their arms and giving us braking and turn in points.
I did L1 & 2 a number of years ago. Always intended to follow with L3. Fantastic day for both fun and riding. Well worth every penny with skills transferrable to the road. Saved my bacon a few times.
Great video mate ,was wondering when you would put it up as i was there myself for 2 days doing level 1 & 2 . fantastic days and we had great weather . hope you got to put what you learnt into pratice at snetterton. Ride safe buddy ...
Ahhh excellent. I too have done lvl 2 CSS, lvl 1 at Brands, lvl 2 at Silverstone. So worth it, so much fun and you just come away as a faster, safer rider. Recomended for everyone
Great video Chopsie. Me and my mate are heading down to Phillip Island for California Superbike Stage 1 at Christmas. Looking forward to it even more now after your reviews. Cheers from Melbourne 👍
Very cool & interesting vid Chops. Looks like great day out & super educational. You could really see you see head positioning improving from mole to meerkat lol as the day went on. Really helpful for road riding too & so many avoidable accidents happen because of target fixation mistakes.

I've done it lots of times in the car. Got my first ever bike trackday there in a few weeks on an msv Yamaha r6. Will be interesting to see how a bike trackday differs...
Great video again Chops. Really interesting knowing the fundamentals of track riding and then putting it into practice. That BMW is a weapon to say the least. When are we going to see you on the grid for the BSB championships?😀👍
Hey Sir I was told you'd be there and looked out for you. I was on level 1 and Duncan was my trainer, he is absolutely fantastic and taught me well, giving me bags of confidence coming into Paddock with no brakes, fast and in third on my RSV4 Factory. I'm looking at doing from CSS for 2022. I recommend doing these on your own bike especially if you track your own bike. So you had a good one and learned lots more?
Always wondered how you pick up references on a featureless, flat track like Assen? Hard enough picking up the edges of the track. Is that red speck just a speck or a drone.? Did they say anything about sliding, drifting through corners? Slow motion footage of the pros shows how the bikes are actually sliding sideways up the wheels going through the corner. Admittedly they're on racing slicks.
Jolly good stuff! 😎 How well can you transfer what you learn here to daily riding on common roads? Great to have a circuit to practice on, where you can finely tune lap after lap until you hit perfection, but what happens when you come onto ordinary roads with false apexes, gravel and wet leafs? Do you think differently, are you more prepared for the unknown or how does it work in your nugget on common roads?
The Level 2 stuff probably not that much for the road skills. Level 1 however covers bike control and countersteering and how relax your upper body, this stuff is brilliant for road riding also 👍
Hi John there seems to be a channel on here called Elizabeth Grace uploading your content. Don't know if there's anything wrong with that but I thought I'd let you know

Best sportsbike in my opinion is the S1000RR as the others are just too uncomfortable, unless you want a track bike which the S1000RR is great at also! For the road S1000RR everytime!
Seeing this I am pretty convinced it was a mistake for me to start out on a very hilly and technical track .. Still, don't think track riding is for me even with an easier layout. PS: We can watch all the track videos we like, learning the theoretical skills online, but getting out there really puts things on a whole different level. There is so much information to process in very short time, over and over again. It's quite hard.
Yes I would agree, also its very intimidating first time out. Always takes me a couple of sessions to feel natural and start to really enjoy myself and thats after 10 plus track days now 👍
I didn't like their method when I took the course in Australia. They like to present in the form of riddles. confuse you first and once you feel like a fool, they give some clues. Not worth the money in my opinion. Yamaha Champion school sounds much better.
