Best cover version ever.
One of the most incredible songs ever... Reminds me of all the times I begged and pleaded with God to take me instead of my dad when my dad's cancer returned... Anything to take his place, "I'd make a deal with God to swap our places"... "No problems". Having those prayers and pleas fall on God's deaf ears took me to the darkest places I've ever been. Dark, dark times...but beautiful, beautiful music. 20-yrs since my dad's passing and this song still knows how to show me how deep the bullet lies.
I'm so sorry about your dad's passing. You will mourn him for the rest of your life. The pain of his loss will never, ever go away. It may subside a bit for a little while but then suddenly hit you like a ton of bricks. God DID hear your pleas to swap places with your dad but He was only protecting your dad. Your dad suffered from cancer but God spared him the loss of a child, and there is NOTHING worse.

This has gotten me through so many forms of loss and times of profound loneliness. I absolutely loved the scene in Stranger Things.
I empathize and have had similar experiences. This song (and band) got me through some of the darkest times in my life. Times when I felt like an island apart from everyone. Just finished that episode in Stranger Things and I had to hear Brian sing running up that hill.

They are splendidly performing Running up that hill for decades now and I never ever get enough to hear Brian's voice singing Kate's masterpiece. Their covers are not only covers, are so much more! There is always something so spiritual and personal that make them unique!

I have (unfortunately). They will remain the worst band I ever had to experience live. Especially if you figure out that all their songs only have 2 sounds. The singer only uses the "eeeeee" or "aaaaaaiiii" sound.

in 1999, my father was diagnosed with a bad cancer , and passed away in a few months after. I remember listen to the original of this song, and ask myself to make a deal with god. Let save my father and and take me instead. Of course didn't happen, still grieving. Must say ,placebo version is awesome, and i like the live version. But wish my dad could hear this....

Until this season of Stranger Things I always thought this song was written by Placebo. I've learnt that's is a remarkable cover of an iconic song that I've grown up listening to from a young age. Placebo was and still is truly loved in my house. What I love is how it's not been copied they've made this cover their down and totally own it. It's now lovely seeing the lease of life this song has been given by the younger generation.
They don’t own it. Kate Bush owns it. She wrote it. Not Placebo.
