At 74 years young and still rocking, I remember the original by Kate Bush and this 9 year old one by Placebo, which I discovered yesterday, 20th May 2024 smashes it out of the park. Act your shoe size, not your calendar age and you will be rocking well into your 90s!
Just a proof that Placebo have always been ahead of the time and probably this is reason why they are one of the most underrated band ever. They are pure genius! They are splendidly performing Running up that hill for decades now and I never ever get enough to hear Brian's voice singing Kate's masterpiece. Their covers are not only covers, are so much more! There is always something so spiritual and personal that make them unique!

Anything to take his place, "I'd make a deal with God to swap our places"... "No problems". Having those prayers and pleas fall on God's deaf ears took me to the darkest places I've ever been. Dark, dark times...but beautiful, beautiful music. 20-yrs since my dad's passing and this song still knows how to show me how deep the bullet lies.
I'm so sorry about your dad's passing. You will mourn him for the rest of your life. The pain of his loss will never, ever go away. It may subside a bit for a little while but then suddenly hit you like a ton of bricks. God DID hear your pleas to swap places with your dad but He was only protecting your dad. Your dad suffered from cancer but God spared him the loss of a child, and there is NOTHING worse.
first heard this song on WWE's promo with HBK vs Undertaker and instantly fell in love with this song. Regardless of who's version it is whether Placebo, Kate Bush or Meg Myers, the impact of this song is so powerful to a lot of people. Thank you Placebo for covering this classic.

Until this season of Stranger Things I always thought this song was written by Placebo. I've learnt that's is a remarkable cover of an iconic song that I've grown up listening to from a young age. Placebo was and still is truly loved in my house. What I love is how it's not been copied they've made this cover their down and totally own it. It's now lovely seeing the lease of life this song has been given by the younger generation.
I empathize and have had similar experiences. This song (and band) got me through some of the darkest times in my life. Times when I felt like an island apart from everyone. Just finished that episode in Stranger Things and I had to hear Brian sing running up that hill.

A lot of people have been talking about the song's use in Stranger Things, and it's great that people are getting turned onto it again. It was used previously in a 1989 film called The Chocolate War (silly title, great film), which I highly recommend. I was lucky enough, and old enough to get into it when it was first released as a single in '85. I'm glad it keeps getting attention, and I guess the cycle will come around again in another few years.

This cover was actually the first time I've ever heard this song. And still my favorite up to this date, even when sometimes it feels so poignant for me because of how Brian sings it. I honestly thought it was a Placebo original, even before I heard the Kate Bush one

Pas tout à fait exact... Avant strange sthing, la chanson à eu bcp de covers, utilisé dans films, séries, pubs...vous n'avez pas prêté attention, surtout si vous ne suiviez pas de près Bush.

I was watching the local Elizabeth Smart movie she produced just last year, early summer 2019. The only song in the movie is Placebo's version of "running up that hill". I LOVED IT. I was so sad when she was kidnapped. This song is played during the part where she was rescued. I was so impressed she chose this song. Right after she was rescued I saw her family at a bluegrass outdoor concert here. Doc Watson.

This cover was actually the first time I've ever heard this song. And still my favorite up to this date, even when sometimes it feels so poignant for me because of how Brian sings it. I honestly thought it was a Placebo original, even before I heard the Kate Bush one

Good thing you mention this. This cover is so good i legit went years not realizing this was a cover.... in all honesty the slower pace of this version suits the song so much better and is my guess as to why this song is so well known when performed by placebo
