Currently you can go to a store in Galaxy's Edge and buy a replica lightsaber for around 200 dollars. There a few option. When I went there I got Kylo Ren's and Anakin Skywalker's. You can also buy the replicas in downtown Disney. About the retractable lightsaber this is all information that I have heard of and cannot confirm is true.

The original saber was Retro Reflective Tape on a pole with stage lighting hitting it. Simple, effective illusion. The extending Disney Saber is Retro Reflective Tape on an extending tape measure with stage lighting hitting it. If you want to build one like that, I suggest a telescoping car antenna covered in retro reflective material, with a base LED light to illuminate it.

Adorable the both of you. 🤣 Like when i was a kid and i used a metal vacuum tube, battery terminal cleaner and parts of a zebra pen to make my own light saber hilt. I imagine these are props for the theme park staff and may not be sold to consumers. Im guessing a high speed fan propells the end piece very quickly and it pulls the other parts along as it expands. The sections may be very thin and there is probably a bright LED inside the hilt. The tube looks clear but may have some diffusing coating that reflects a certain way so it has that look. Then the retract button reverses the fan and because the pieces are snug the vacuum pulls the end down enough to jar it loose. No not Jar Jar. It then uses gravity to let it fall back into the hilt. Im guessing the park staff will be trained how to use it in a way that allows for maximum affect without blundering it up. If you watch the video clip closely, you can see the clear tip sticking out of the hilt just before the actor deploys it.

my guess is it works like those cheap collapsible ones to some extent, just done in a flashier style where the blade functions like those pop up metal staffs that were all the rage? and the light either hides the seams or perhaps there is some kind of stretchy membrane that goes over it that stretches out when the blade extends.
i am thinking it must be the former of the 2 given that it might not look right when it is retracted back into the blade as rubbery membrane material might do something goofy when getting pulled back into the handle that could break the immersion.

but it makes me so angry on how they act like it’s a real real lightsaber
i’m not saying this because hacksmith made a real lightsaber
disney is just designing it for looks

I saw those plans they made for them a few weeks ago and I can’t wait to be able to buy it
I did try to make one like this a few years ago but it didn’t work out well for me as the outside was thin plastic so it broke and the light wasn’t there

That is the jankiest POS ever and I AM HERE FOR IT. Absolutely love it. Well done! Excited to see these "real" lightsabers make their way (eventually) to retail markets so all of us nerds can run around like children again. (insert "take my money" gif here)

3:39 I'm glad videos like these show the steps necessary to get in your car, start it and get going. Everytime I try to go somewhere I face the notoriously difficult process of forcing myself to remember what's next... do I hit the gas and then switch to drive and then I open the door to let myself in? ugh, such a complicated process.
Thankfully we're shown here how to do it. That's what I want to see in a video about lightsabers... footage of unrelated topics.

I was thinking the roll up mech too, wasnt sure if its a tape measure style or (and sorry for the comparison) more of a condom style ring rolled up. I feel like the LEDs may be more of a fiberoptic device. The light is in the hilt, but travels up the blade via the defused filter. As we can see a brighter glow at the hilt and it dims a bit near the tip of the blade.
I also noticed they dont seem to show it retracting, and those who saw also have not seen that. Its as if there is still an issue getting it to retract properly. That is of course the hardest part, making sure everything lines up and doesnt jam.

someone answer me this. will the lightsabers be like all the other ones but the plastic part will shoot out of the handle? or will there be no plastic part and it will just be light??

Yeah. The actual real plasma lightsaber was created by The Hacksmith. That’s the first “real” lightsaber that’s fully retractable and can cut through stuff.

  • @englandfpv9385

I feel like it could be done with a very light fabric tube and fan forcing it in and then out with blowing and suction inflating and deflating it. Then a bright led illuminating it from in the unit. Kind like those tall blow ups you see at car dealerships. Kinda.....

    • @KremitDeFrog
      @KremitDeFrog ปีที่แล้ว

this.. I'm thinking they could roll the tube up like a condom.. I think this could be done with acrylic fabric and some finely clustered LEDs each attached to a segment of an extendable/collapsing arm that's extended or collapsed by the inflation/deflation of the tube.. or maybe the LED is a LED Filament strip..

Wait, you just showed the tape measure and I was thinking about it earlier today. Bi fold stuff like tape measures. Of course, Disney can just make custom bi fold tape with led and wiring inside.
    Yeah
