Already people and even whole professions are losing out.
Well light saber & laser sword are basically the same thing, although both names don't really match the tech behind those from the Star Wars lore. Sabers are just a sub-category of swords, and the terms laser or light could both mean the same cuz both are forms of light. However, as those things actually emit energy that ionizes the air around it, it changes the air molecules' physical state into plasma. That means that technically, it's a plasma sword, while emitting light as a form of energy radiation.
This is amazing and in a couple years you might have a literal lightsaber! its really cool to be here and see the development. Its like watching people develop something that has been thought to be completely impossible!
Technically it still is impossible this is just a flame sword a lightsaber wouldn’t be a beam of fire and would be able to deflect other “lightsabers instead of just going through each other but this is definitely a good start
The fact that you have done something people wouldnt even begin to know how to do, its so incredible your doing things like this because it inspires others to do as you guys already are doing. People love your content and you are worth a lot
Hi, I was very intrigued by this project of yours, and this came to mind last night. according to how star wars lightsabers work, when the blades slam, it's not actually a real blow, because in reality they repel each other because all those lightsabers have the same charge. so you could try implementing a magnetic bar inside the plasma beam so that when two blades are close together they repel each other. Thank you for your attention to this comment if you are reading.
Interesting idea but heat destroys magnetism. The highest temperature you can reach with a material staying magnetic is elemental cobalt at ~1000 °C. Also, they can't put anything in the flame because it disrupts the flowing gas that makes the "blade" so nicely shaped. They talked about it in the QnA video.
It’s been incredible to see this technology develops in real time. To see how far you’ve come from having a really hot metal rod to now being on the cusp of a fully retractable plasma blade is insane
I love how the thumbnail doesn’t hide the hilt of the lightsaber, this is incredible progress and a real step up from the previous proto-sabers. Own it 💪
Revan's Theme! Perfect sight for this! And it would match the timeline, for sure! Expanded Universe said the first lightsabers had packs. Look where we are now! Love your work, Hacksmith, thank you for this bright spot in my day!
ATM it's still a glorified "flame" thrower. However, having said that, this is absolutely amazing. If anyone can get us to where we have real legit lightsabers, it's these guys. Although I hope someday to see them make them where two blades can actually clash like in the movies. You guys are doing incredible work and I can't wait to see what y'all do in the future.
Kind of but yeah still awesome! But there is a reason the tip of the "blade" is not showing when it doesnt need to. Im excited to see where this ends up!
@@jackr0101 you know when they use them like swords and the plasma blade hits into each other, that wouldn’t work with this since it would just go through another blade
the physics of a lightsaber come from the magnetic field that contains the plasma, but i dont know if those physics apply in real life (for instance, if it was magnetic specifically it'd have some funky effects near metals, and i dont think they'd clash but either attract each other or, more likely, repel each other violently, preventing contact for more than a second) and it'd be really hard to contain the plasma in a magnetic field produced by something that fits into a lightsaber hilt anyways, at least with our current tech
I can't believe how far you guys come. This is literally my dream job, forging the future, and to watch you guys do it makes me tear up with joy! Your whole team is incredible and I can't wait to see what they achieve.

I always appreciate when you give you the answers that you logically would have even tho its not something they want to highlight - for example the run time - From an engineering/ learning its important. Awesome video! - One day we will see the true perfect saber - great stepping stone
Unfortunately, a solid beam would require a completely different system, possibly requiring mechanics that are not even theoretically possible right now
@@meurtenbaguette Kyber crystals unfortunately don't exist right now, but we will find a power source to create an actual lightsaber that cuts like one
I started building lightsabers for more than 20+ years, but we stopped because if we wanted to be able to actually cut "melt" things with it - it became a skin and eye hazard = could make you go blind or burn all the hairs off your skin! So we stopped a few years ago and just made "pretty" portable ones. (and "we" were a bunch of fans, scientists and engineers.) [We pretty much did the same thing except 10+ years earlier - our most powerful one - burnt out very large heat-sink in less than 2 seconds and turned out neighborhood into daylight at night.] It's nice to see you have a BIG safer slow burning/melting one tho. - Good job!

Awesome job team! Keep up the incredible work!!
It's crazy how much progress you have made since you guys just heated up tungsten rods to a really high temperature, to an actual retractable blade. Keep up the good work! 👍
this is so cool, we are literally proving that lightsabers are not only possible, but the development of the real life ones are taking the exact same path that they took in starwars.
Well, not to be a downer cause it is very cool, but lets not forget a very key part; you can't fight with this, as stuff will pass right through the blade. That is probably the most important part of a lightsaber.
Keep it going fellas! You're extremely close! If you had zero point energy that we KNOW exists, your power concerns would be answered. The power would be virtually unlimited. How about a Tesla coil and high intensity magnets that could control the flow of protons and electrons within the plasma and gas stream you've created? Hell, they make small Tesla coils for magnetic plasma ball toys inside a glass vacuum. Or a jewel like quartz that has frequency to control the oscillation of the electrons. Check out Wigner crystals: The generalized Wigner crystal states are stabilized by a vertical magnetic field. Just some extra food for thought.
I am just simply amazed and awed at how all of the effort put into the plasma-based lightsaber over the years has gotten so far. I’m still amazed at the fact that lightsabers now exist, and I think that it’s all thanks to you guys at Hacksmith :) thanks for being amazing!

I just like how out of all possible things we as a species are striving to get, a lazer sword is the one.
Its called light saber
Well light saber & laser sword are basically the same thing, although both names don't really match the tech behind those from the Star Wars lore. Sabers are just a sub-category of swords, and the terms laser or light could both mean the same cuz both are forms of light. However, as those things actually emit energy that ionizes the air around it, it changes the air molecules' physical state into plasma. That means that technically, it's a plasma sword, while emitting light as a form of energy radiation.

They talked about it in the QnA video.

what do u mean by the psyhics?

How about a Tesla coil and high intensity magnets that could control the flow of protons and electrons within the plasma and gas stream you've created?
