Just noticed a week ago that the car was getting a bit hot and when I got home If I turned it off right away the reservoir would bubble a little I hooked up scanner and saw regular temps, I read on a forum to let it sit until fans start then shut off and no bubbling. I can’t do it every time I drive so I looked online some more and realized that only high temp fan was running and not low temp fan, I know it’s one fan but two speeds. So this must be the issue. I did test the engine block for exhaust leak cause my Audi had bubbling in the res tank but showed no signs of blown head gasket until I did a block leak test. I tested the block and it was fine so I was happy to see that. Also the plastic bleeder screw was previously stripped so I ordered a new brass bleed screw cause I read they strip or break very easy. Thank you for this video! Some one had told me that the whole fan had to be replaced which is obviously not the case.
I bought a Mini Cooper R53 2005 is overheating but I haven’t find the solution , I change the thermostat, radiator which was leaking also installed a brand new, my mechanic also suggested me to replace the spark plugs and Ignition coil and cables and the card is still over heating. I noticed the steering wheel is kind of hard to turn left o right, I looked underneath the card and the power steering pump does not have the liter cooling fan , and the car just overheat when I stop in a traffic light or to add some miles in the gas station . I have the hypothesis that maybe is overheating because of the power steering pump is not working properly and also because the fan is missing . Could you please give me your opinion? I would appreciate
Hello Igor, great video ! I have the same problem with the fan. I also bought a new resistor like you did. There are 3 wires, 2 red and one blue. I tried to see how you connected them, but its not quite clear. Can you tell me where the blue wire goes? The 2 red wires are clear. It looks to me as if the new/second hand one has no relay at all...I am not very good at electrics so is the relay gone ? And the blue wire connected somewhere? I hope you can help me out here...Kind regards from the Netherlands. Martin
I have a mini one 2002 1.6 90hp. the speed of the antifreeze cooling fan turns on at 112 degrees. antifreeze is as it should be, everything is ok. Is that all right ??
hi, i have problem with mine r53 where the fan wont turn on even after I changet whole resistor. the fan turs on when I do it with PC. I can see that you have to cables for the fan. Is there a reason I have only one?
Nice job Igor neat and tidy and the right way to do wiring. the liquid tape is great I have seen jobs done with just a swist of the wire and a bit of insulation tape over it drive me crazy

i bought a new radiator, that looks very much like yours. upon inspection the o-ring was not at fit properly. it was totally dry and twisted, deformed like yours. i also noticed the groove around flange connection is like .5mm too deep, even if the o ring was fit properly, there'd be issues soon. these problems are common with cheap aftermarket parts. however i put some silicon spray to the ring, then applied silicon sealer around the flange, making the flange permanently fixed to the rad. no leaks so far.
Gutes Video. Eigentlich braucht man den Kühler glaube ich nicht ausbauen wenn man den Lüfter wechseln möchte. Du hast den Kühler wegen dem Leck ausgebaut?
How's she goin'? Nice repair. It's always nice when you can determine what the fault is and then prove it by looking at what is damaged. Interesting about the fluid leak. Must have been like that from the factory like you say. Thanks for sharing and take care!!
Thanks Mike yeah finding the failed part is the way to go ... Yeah the radiator is just over a year old I’ve noticed recently it was weeping a bit but couldn’t believe it was coming from the elbow connector , well at least seems to be holding for now with a thicker O ring 🤗🤞👍👍👍
Hi great video very good. I saw my Mini r53 also starts fan at 105 degrees Celtius. And stops at 100 degrees. So I think it’s the second fan like A.C. I would like mine to start like at 95 degrees and stop at 90 degrees. You think it’s ok to start at 105 degrees because it is an lot of pressure.
Yeah those resistors don’t seem to last for too long , I was surprised about relay for speed 1 being commanded on for speed 1 and 2 , I’m not sure about the strategy there but it works 😊👍👍👍 cheers mate
I like the liquid insulation product you used on the wiring repair. I would suggest you try adhesive lined heat shrink if you haven't done so already. Expensive but great
Hopefully you check your notifications 😂 My low speed runs fine. High speed does nothing. What do you think the cause of that is? Or do you have an idea of where I can start checking. I got my mini 05 S for $300. The axle was broken. I replace both axles and tie rods. Car ran fine, except it seemed to have a parasitic drain. I was wrong. It was the alternator all along. After I fixed the alternator now the car overheats instantly. I tested the fan, and only low-speed works. I'm guessing since high speed doesn't work, it's overheating. Idk. All I know is that this is a complete Frankenstein mini. There is so much crap tied to other crap that doesn't belong in here. Everything was fine until I changed the alternator. The belt is on correctly. Which is what led me to discovering the high speed isn't working. I have no idea why the car didn't overheat before the alternator swap, and now it does. Im lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's such a small, simple car to work on, and yet I'm am utterly lost.
You become an expert of front end service mode pretty quickly owning a Mini Cooper 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I feel like I’ve done it pretty much everytime I’ve worked on it ... Always plenty work around owning a Classic ish or maybe just old 😋😊🍻🤣👍👍 cheers mate
Brilliant work!!! Did you note the size of the O-ring by any change? Attempting the same repair myself soon, it'd be great to know the size if possible!
@@CarsExposed thanks for the info! Managed to find a similar looking o-ring set on amazon.co.jp. Watching your vid made me so confident in tackling the job myself! Looking for more videos ;) Thumbs up from Tokyo!
Thanks mate ... I did mechanics and electronics in college 23 years ago I’ve got some good foundation but technology moves on so I’m learning all the time 👍👍👍 cheers
Yeah I know Mr. Dean BMW specialist I’m not fan of his delivery but very knowledgeable chap ... I’ve got other few bmw tools but wasn’t needed to this job 👍👍👍

Please could you tell me the resistor value?
Great video. FYI a soldering iron, like one used to do stain glass, would work and heat the wire from underneath and let solder flow to the iron!

I have an 04 mini Cooper fans work as long as you activate with the scan tool but won't work off the a/c or from the car by it self??

Thanks for the feedback mate , aftermarket parts seems to be getting worse and worse in my opinion 👍👍👍

Great editing. Lots of work to gain access to anything in the front of that dude. Nice troubleshooting of the fan.
Thanks Wyatt 👍👍👍 Are you back home yet?
@@CarsExposed Yes, thank you. I have one more travel video coming then that's it.
Where can I find you lol😂. Great work. I am having same issues

I’ve seen lots of vehicles starting the fan at 105 , to be honest if it’s designed like this I don’t see a problem in leaving it 👍👍👍
@@CarsExposed
Yes but it seems like it wants to through te water out of the tank
Hey just watched this video. Thanks for sharing. Does your mini not have an aircon? I noticed no aircon condenser when you stripped the radiator.
No A/C unfortunately 🥵, thanks for watching
Well done!
👍👍👍
Cheers Luis 👍👍👍😋🍻
Nice one Igor. Most of those minis I've worked on for Aircon just cycle the condenser fan on speed 2 because that resistor is always blown.
Yeah those resistors don’t seem to last for too long , I was surprised about relay for speed 1 being commanded on for speed 1 and 2 , I’m not sure about the strategy there but it works 😊👍👍👍 cheers mate

Another good vlog igor the minis always cost you money but a very fun car to drive
Thanks man ... you definitely not short of content with the old girl 🤗👍👍👍🍻
Brilliant work!!! Did you note the size of the O-ring by any change?
Attempting the same repair myself soon, it'd be great to know the size if possible!
Thanks mate ... sorry but unfortunately I don’t know the size of the o-ring I tried different ones from my kit until I found one that fitted well 👍
@@CarsExposed thanks for the info! Managed to find a similar looking o-ring set on amazon.co.jp. Watching your vid made me so confident in tackling the job myself! Looking for more videos ;) Thumbs up from Tokyo!
Which app did you use? Looks very useful
Autel MK908p 👍
@@CarsExposed that´s more expensive then my mini was 🤣 You know decent alternatives under €50?
Lol I know what you mean mate it’s quite expensive tool , I don’t know any to be honest under €50 sorry
Nice work mate...very well explained....cheers
Thanks mate 👍👍👍🍻
Boom sorted awesome nice job mate
Boom 😉🤗 Cheers mate 👍👍👍
Great job Igor! Great to get an overheating issue sorted! 🤗👍
Thanks Niamh yeah I was well worried to get stuck in traffic and warp the head .... all done now 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for you vidéo 👍
Nice Igor. It’s good to familiarize yourself with the cooling (and condenser fan if equipped) circuit...It will fail sooner or later. Cheers Pal 👍
Thanks mate I agree there ... recently I’ve fixed quite few overheating issues and a/c issues ... cheers mate 👍👍👍
Got to hate the Pokey Pokey 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Naughty naughty 😁👍👍👍
This crappie stock radiators in the mini is the reason when I fix them only replacement is full aluminum
👍👍👍
You are very skilled. Are you self taught, ore did you go to school for it?
Thanks mate ... I did mechanics and electronics in college 23 years ago I’ve got some good foundation but technology moves on so I’m learning all the time 👍👍👍 cheers
very nice!
Good Informational video, but really a $100 all Aluminum Radiator will fix all your issues you are having 🙂
Brilliant !
Thanks mate 👍
can u get rid of the background music?
thanks for the feedback bud ... I have reduced the amount of music in the videos
BMW Doctor has a great apps for Bmw / Mini
