    2005, 126,000 miles myself. Completely stock. No major issues aside from replacing the oil pan recently. You might find it interesting to know that the engine DID actually originate from a small farm tractor. Wonderful little vehicle! I've never had mine not start even after sitting out for a week in -28 weather. It certainly didn't sound nice but she started. (I was in northern michigan in a cabin w/ no outdoor plug for a week - it's normally garaged and plugged in in that weather)

    Thank you for the detailed info. My 2012 Wrangler Automatic with new 3.6L actually gave me 19~21MPG stock, but those wimpy 31in stock tires just didnt do the Jeep any justice. I didnt realize these 34 mud rovers would rob that much MPG's.
    I do enjoy remote camping sites and at very least hope the new 4x4 can use 30~31in Mud Tires that are 8in~9in wide. Like SuperSwampers and hopefully get low 30's MPG. I drive slow in streets and never over 60MPH on freeway.
    My daily driver is a 1982 VW Rabbit Diesel and it does 52.5mpg as of now which is why I am falling in love with diesel power in general.
    best,
    bigC

    Wish I had known about and could've found a CRD Liberty when I was looking for a vehicle lol. I got a 3.7 6 speed manual, definitely has been nice so far.

      3.7 didn't have that much power and the fuel mileage was not to go I had a dodge dakota with 3.7 with a 6spd standard I got rid of it pretty quick.. Nice truck just not what i wanted... (2wd was blah)

    That is a nice zippy Jeep. I am considering one as a second car, because my suburban is hard to park in our downtown, but such a jeep in a good condition is hard to find in my country. Most people drive them like maniacs here and beat the heck out of them. Take a good care of yours, it is an old-school stuff and it will not fall apart as many modern crossovers. I love the color by the way! Very rare :) Racing Green nearly :)))

    I have 2004 Limited here in the US. Wish I had the diesel. They are really hard to find here. Same issue with front window regulators going bad. Transmission was replaced by previous owner. Other than that runs and drives great!

    • @fjb4932
      @fjb4932 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Window regulators go bad because of the stress related to allowing the regulator to run the glass all the way up before it shuts off. All parts are under stress at this point. Either stop the motor before it's as far up as it can go, or allow the motor to shut off and then bump the window glass down 1mm / a 16th of an inch. This relieves the pressure on the mechanical parts. You won't hear wind noise nor will water come in...

    I am the owner of a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD. The car was great (powerfull with low gas mileage and no repair bills to speak of) . Untill it reached 135.000 miles. At that time I drove approx 10 miles very fast through a flood area (dealing with an emergency). After that I began to have strange little defects first (ABS and brakes changes in efficiency).
    Later, the car stopped out of the blue and would not restart: crank-but-no-start. We live in Baja Sur (Mexico). I was advised to buy a new computer mother-board for the car. With that, the car ran again -- great. The car felt like a new engine: very powerful.
    I drove it two weeks without any problems. Then, two weeks ago I suddenly found the car to be real sluggish. I drove it for approx 20 mls, stopped and then started again -- the sluggishness had gone. The car had sometimes a diesel fuel smell -- sometimes not.
    Curious about the car's behavior I took it to a great freeway (little traffic --big hills) and drove it fast (90 mph). Then, suddenly the engine stalled with what felt like a loud bang. I rolled on the shoulder, stopped. Cranked the engine again -- and, drove off like nothing had happened. This phenomena keeps repeating itself daily. I took it to a local repair shop and they did a diagnosis scan. The mechanic comment was: the engine runs great. no problems found in the scan --except an issue might be: the fuel-heater and a fuel-temperature-sensor, (we live in a hot climate).
    Question: is there someone that can advise me what to do next? Parts for the CRD are not sold in Mexico. No one has experience working on CRD Jeeps here.
    Every advice is very welcome.

    • @KcYukon
      @KcYukon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the delay I would fallow Justin's comment it could be a bad sensor... if it is it should show on a ECU computer scan as something... Also www.greendieselengineering.com/Welcome.action go to the forums and see if anyone has some ideas as well, maybe make a new post just like this! Or a possilbe ECU tune might fix eliminating unneeded sensors etc. Good luck!

    I just got one, 2005 1 owner 91k. First tank with a performance additive I got 28 going from Denver to Price. Super impressed with how its performed. Only bummer is that the rear ABS sensor might've gone out? I hope its that and not the wires cause I'm about to drive the ALCAN. I feel like for slow driving getting the 30s is possible. But everyone watches Nascar in Utah so we'll see. Think the GDE eco chip would fry the torque converter? I'd love to get better mileage now that I'm rolling with a rocketbox

    • @KcYukon
      @KcYukon  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is ECO tune which is designed to work with the stock torque converter. This is what I opted for as the others tunes made a huge difference in torque&hp but then you have to start beefing things up which is not what I wanted. What I noticed after the tune was it had more of grunt noise little louder but not.much, I gained about another 20 kms to 30 kms per tank of diesel... which is what 15 miles more... That was just every day driving in town and a little hwy long hwy drives might be much better, the biggest thing I wanted was durability with the tune. With no tune the engine will attempt to burn it's own soot and what happens is it gets into your oil. Causes your oil to break down faster over time. The eco tune turns that feature off was my understanding when I talked with him. I would also recommend a lower profile eco tire. That will give about 1 mpg more. Oh also I did notice a slight change in power and it seemed to run better as well... Thanks for watching my videos!!!

    It is a German designed Italian engine. Rated towing is 5000 pounds (in Europe they rated them @ 7000). I have a 2006 and have tweeked for maximum MPG, I am actually getting 31-32 freeway and 24-25 around town. My overhead computer shows 4mpg more than I am actually getting. (my guess is he is going by his overhead console and not the calculated MPG). Jeep did some last minute cost cuttings on these jeeps, the elimination of the in-tank fuel pump is one of the first fixes I recommend. I got one from a wrecker from a 2003 Dodge diesel that fit right in. the wiring was already there since it was designed to have one in the first place. Many h ave experienced turbo failure, mainly due to the smog crap that re-circulates the breather oil. A provent system fixed that. The window regulators he mentioned are cheap plastic and will eventually break on ALL jeep liberties. metal replacements can be found on EBAY for about $20 each, they are a bit of a pain to replace, but when the dealers want over $200 to replace them with the cheap plastic, this is a better way to go.
    These are very powerful little jeeps, when you step on the pedal you get instant acceleration, much more than you would expect. They look a bit wimpy for my taste, so I put a ARB front bumper on mine to "man it up" and welded on brackets to tow it behind my motor-home. I have had mine a few years and have about 68k miles on it.
    The ride is stiff, long trips are not nearly as relaxing as a Lexus. Finding parts can be a challenge and I am not looking forward to changing the timing belt! The Thermostat is inside a cast housing and is over $100 for the part. It is a great car, but I would not recommend it to anyone without some mechanical knowledge and willing to make the changes it requires to bring it to its full potential.

    I miss my 2.8L CRD. It went to crap at 120,200 miles and I dumped over $3k into it only to still not fix it. Also went through two turbos in that 120,200 miles which wasn't cheap. I am hoping to fix the 2.8L eventually but in the mean time I swapped in a 3.7L V6. Much cheaper to maintain but I do miss the torque and fuel mileage of the diesel. Hoping that one day I can swap in an Isuzu 4BD1T.

      At about 100k miles they usually lock because of the low oil going to the cam and lifter so the lifter would get worn down by the cam and the cam would get eaten up as well, I owned one and that was the problem so i changed the cam and lifters and it was good as new

    I have a 2012 Wrangler with 34in tires and tired of the 16MPG. I been contemplating trading in for a 2005 CRD Liberty but I hear these get 18~26MPG at best. How are you getting over 30MPG?

    • @KcYukon
      @KcYukon  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear yea man I had a dakota 3.7 with 6 spd manual and pulling my snowmobiles sucked.. Against a hard wind I would get like 12 to 13 MPG... So I said screw it I'm getting a diesel. But to your question when I purchased the jeep about 3 years ago we took a trip down to Minnesota... I put on 670 kms / 420 miles and I still had over half a tank of diesel. At that point it took approximate about 35 Liters of diesel. If I drove back on that one tank I bet I could have made it all the way back home. When you do the calculations on it's around 35/40 MPG (canadian) Since then I have done the green eco tune and I put some eco tires on my jeep... I have found almost no difference with both, the tune helps keep the soot out of the motor and I saw maybe another 10 to 20 miles increase on my jeep as far as range goes. The ECO tires I found did nothing really.... Anyways when I did do that trip down to the states I drove it 60 MPH, I ran it in over drive and drove back hwy's so I wouldn't hold anyone up. The RPM at hwy speeds is almost at idle like 1650 RPM.

      @@jesse.e.martin I'd owned a gas engine 02 I ordered just the way I wanted it from Jeep and for 17 years. The only thing we've had to deal with twice is the window rollers gave out on a couple windows to where we had to temporarily tape the window up to keep it shut. $400 fix x 2 over 17 years ain't bad!
      Used it many times on trails all over. Had it on the same trails we used my FJ40s and other trucks all four wheelers. The Jeep doesn't do as well in deep mud or snow but on trails and so long as the body isn't dragging it's impressive and a great little overlander package in my opinion.

      It was a Daimler Jeep when I bought mine and it is a "Detroit" diesel that is the 2.8 liter they used in USA sold units. I know nothing about German design or European who but the company that makes the diesel in that Jeep is in America. I had hoped when they were Daimler that it would be a Mercedes diesel! Then you would have something!! But oh no!! Not Jeep. I do own a 3.7 gasoline version but had it been the Mercedes I'd have opted on a diesel even then but we've owned since 02. when I took delivery of it new. Its a Limited with every option made special for me just the way I wanted it and we love it. I would buy another limited just like it with the diesel if I found one for the right deal.

      +Matt Close What you can tow and what you should tow are not the same thing. I saw a chevy s 10 v6 towing a 65 ft mobile home! Granted it was flat land with no hills or that would have got interesting fast!
      My Grandpa had a little 69 bronco and we towed a 24ft trailer way overloaded with dirt bikes, water, gas, food, ice, you name it! and we had to traverse the Cajon pass into the Mojave every time! I drove that bronco a few years ago and I thought it had oily brakes and I was towing nothing, it was just the drum brakes! my Grandpa was crazy to do what he did and we never knew it lol.

      USA rating is 5,000. What you can tow is different then what the rating is. You could tow a massive amount of weight if there was no tongue weight and you had the gearing maxed out.

      If your trailer is setup properly, and you have trailer brakes, you can safely tow 5K with this, In Europe, and Canada the max is 7400Lbs it's literally the same as the US spec.

    I own two and I call huge BS on the fuel economy. I get great fuel economy, so don't get me wrong but 40 mpg?! In the words of sleepy Joe, "Come on Man!" and they can not or should not pull 8k pounds! The tow hitch is rated for 5k which is good and maybe the vehicle could tow a little more but the Liberty only weighs just over 4100 pounds and as a guy who tows a lot, I can tell you 8k pounds towing s a terrible idea for this thing. I have gotten as high as 31.4 mph all highway and as low as 22 while mix with heavy off roading I average about 26ish, which is great. These are amazing vehicles. DO NOT GET THE 3.7L v6 gas! It's the Diesel only that is the good one. P.S. most people guess on their fuel economy and don't actually get what they say. I find that very frustrating.

    • @KcYukon
      @KcYukon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So if you live in the USA then this is CDN 40 MPG, there is s difference.... If we convert this the numbers will make more sense to you.... 33.5 US MPG converted to Imperial MPG is 40.23 ... This is where you getting things probably mixed up. Imperial MPG is CDN and US MPG are two different things... On the towing I would agree with you I did this video long time ago and with the narrow stance on these vehicles 8000 would be pushing it but the engine can pull it the body is not wide enough.... I agree on the 3.7 as well not great on fuel, not good on power I felt not a well designed engine. Cheers

The rest was maintenance tires oil changes, nothing serious for me. I did get the time belt changed at 160,000 kms and the dealership said it was due for a timing belt,. You might want to look into that. It cost me about $800

      19aas95 Yea that's not bad if its in mint shape your good to go, I assume your talking US dollars of course. It sounds like everything has been kept up those diesels are suppose to go a million miles or so they say.... So keep in mind a few things this little diesel has lots of power and torque but it comes with a tractor sound. I liked it to be honest, but I also picked up a Grand Cherokee diesel which even had more power with its V6 turbo and just as good on fuel. I could pull more with the GC because of the wheel base being longer but of course you get a bigger price tag with the GC. That was my main reason for selling the jeep liberty I didn't need to full size diesels. I do recall on very very cold days the cab was luke warm at best. -10 C its fine but you get to my -35 to -45 up here in Canada and it would start be mildy warm in the cab even when engine would be at full temperature. I asked the Dodge dealer why this was they said in winter the engine is so efficient it won't run hotter. I guess I could have looked at a hotter thermostat or something but it was bad enough to be make me do it. Other then that it was a good jeep great off roader for the casual guy. Hey subscriptions are always welcome if you find my stuff handy. I also have a video on the grand Cherokee if your interested. thanks for comment.
