I like the use of wood on the seats. It looks more friendly than plastic. I have seen on other channels how much work goes into maintaining and cleaning (inside and outside) a Shinkansen train. It makes me appreciate them even more. Safe travels!
Indeed! The shinkansen spoiled me for any train here in the United States! I'd rather take the shinkansen than fly any day. Much more relaxed. A book and a bento was all I needed.
Everything looks so clean and modern in Japan, I really enjoy that. People seem to take more pride in their public spaces as e.g. in Europe. Many thanks for the video, lovely landscape btw on the way to Hakata.
I kind of see the advantages to both. The Shinkansen was very quick and comfy, but a bit impersonal and isolating. The limited express rattled a lot, but you could connect with the scenery. I guess it would depend on how tired I was!
I'm sorry that happened with your seat. That must be frustrating as you do this as a job. You always give such great information about all of your travels though and I'm sure all of your followers are very understanding. Thank you so much for sharing your travels with us!
That Ekiben looked heavenly. Two !! means it must have been really good. I love how you describe what you eat, sweet, not spicy, etc. Can't wait until I travel to your country. Thank you for this video.
Nice! Honestly I prefer scenery over speed any day. For me getting there is half the fun. Japan has beautiful scenery! And the beef was beautiful scenery as well!
The seats looked like they were fairly comfortable. I think it is kind of you to be so respectful of others , even if they are in your spot. Thanks for taking us along, STJ. I don't know if I could make it through without your videos as a distraction.
Well, I suppose, if you travel the route all the time, you’d prefer speed. But if it was a vacation, it would be nice to see the scenery. I love the baby holder in the restroom!
Those new reserved seats are very comfortable! I just wish the ride was longer than 30 minutes. Hopefully JR connects the line to Shin-Tosu or Hakata soon because the Relay-Kamome is not very comfortable.
It is a difficult choice: speed or view, if nothing else is a deciding factor. That meal looked delicious! I am glad you had time to enjoy it, Thank you, as always.
Can't wait to take this train next year! My favorite short shinkansen hop ever was when I remembered I still had a JR Pass and hopped on the first train from Sendai back to Tokyo Station. A trip that took most of an hour out by Densha, was over in about 15 minutes.
I must say, if I was commuting by train, that extra half hour every day would be invaluable...but the scenery from the express was just beautiful. Yours is an absolutely gorgeous country!!! And so was that lunch...mmmm shortribs. My one true love. Never mind men, give me beef.
I would have sat on the person's lap that was in my reserved seat. When's your next eating video coming out?🍜 I would prefer speed over scenery. Since it's not overnight and, there's no curry the sooner the trip is over, the better!
Would have liked to see the regular Shinkansen seats. The reserved seating didn't look comfy. Perhaps all the walls were there to reduce the train's noise to the surrounding community. Sorry about no soap. Somehow the job doesn't seem finished until your paddies get washed. Lunch looked good, glad you enjoyed it. Enjoyed the Limited Express, you could enjoy the scenery. As for the train rocking . . . I've always thought that was what trains were suppose to do. As for speed or scenery, all things being equal, I prefer safety. Enjoyed the video. Will see where you take us on the next one. Be careful and stay safe.
Thank you for another excellent video. Excellent photography. The sound is excellent. There is a feel that we all are joining you on this trip. If you need to be somewhere by a certain time than speed is important. if you are enjoying the view only than speed is not important. On the second train in the unassigned seat there is a shared armrest. What is the etiquette about who uses the shared armrest?
6:25 'Beautiful walls' - graffiti-free walls, you mean. 9:20 'Let's eat a delicious bento and forget about it' - YES, LET'S! My preference is for scenery regardless of the journey.
Really enjoying your video's the Nagasaki station looks beautiful nice and big and modern and the shinkansen is amazing as always and the express train looks great also, wish we had that in Australia
You mentioned 6 cars and it being completely full during your short first journey leg, I’m curious how many passengers is full capacity? It sounds like a quiet jet. Very cool! Thanks.
Got to try the Kamome Shinkansen for the first time two weeks ago too. JR Kyushu has done a really nice job all round. Going to try Gran Class for the first time tomorrow, can’t wait!
actually I can't imagine how fast the Japanese train is even though it's very stable and comfortable inside but at high speed it should have a slight tremor but this is almost non-existent so I'm quite amazed at how hard Japan works to build something so powerful and advanced so I'm quite satisfied when traveling , because the price is already expensive so what is given is very satisfying
I'd always choose scenery over speed, but then I'm retired so don't need to hurry. A great view is one of the benefits of train travel over flying (not to mention the greater comfort). Our trip from Sydney takes 50 minutes by air on Qantas, and 7 and a half hours by train, but we choose the train trip when we can!
I love scenery. I will even leave earlier to take a different route I havnt been on before just to see the landscapes. I think I would be very sad if I went to Japan and rode a train that I couldn't see anything but walls out my window. But I would be a tourist. People who live and work in Japan care about time. So of course the faster train would be the way to go.
The shinkansen was beautiful, but I prefer seeing the scenery to walls. Thank you, btw, for all of your videos. I've been to Japan twice, but only to Tokyo, Nara, and Kyoto, and that was years ago. It's unlikely I'll be able to afford to go again, but at least I can watch your videos and dream...
I got to travel on the Kishu Railway in Gobo, the second shortest railway in Japan next to the one under Narita airport. Short trips can be every bit as interesting as long ones.
Wow, that train was fast! What were the mountains in the background over the walls? I definitely prefer the slower train because of the scenery, but I would like the seats in the Seco! Thank you for taking me on the ride.
If I can't enjoy the trip by seeing the scenery, the speed doesn't matter... it will feel like it takes forever anyways. Besides, that bullet train ticket was pretty expensive for as short of a trip that it was.
i prefer scenery to speed. i love looking out the window and seeing everything. the ekiben looked sooooo goood!!! i would've bought a couple more for the trip lol.
I've found that most bathrooms in Japan don't have soap or hand towels. Always carry a small towel or handkerchief and hand sanitizer with you. Most restroom don't have trash cans either.
I live in Arizona and the houses here are sooooo boring. I love seeing the different types of houses in Japan and how they go from traditional styling right next to something that looks like additions were added and then added some more, and then a little more was added and then you see something completely modern right down the street from that - so interesting!
I like scenery, but there again I'm in the UK and our train services are nothing like yours . I wonder do you have a favourite train or ferry journey? I wonder what your top 5 train or top 5 ferry journeys are? Thankyou for always uploading .
I think I prefer scenery over speed, cause if I've got something to look at, time just passes so fast anyway... That ekiben, I recognized pickled ginger, lotus roots, and... onion slivers?
Thanks for the informative video! Am i right, that at Takeo Onsen, the Relay train to Shi Tosu is on the same platform as you arrive? This would be very useful since i only have 3 minutes transfer time!
I love train travel and the best train experiences I've had were in Japan. I did this journey a few years ago and it was totally different. I love the look of the new Shinkansen and renovated station. Does anyone know if this shinkansen is included in the JR Railpass?
601st like! It's nice to see the contrast between the two trains! Speed vs. scenery depends on too many factors, but either one is usually better than walking! 😎✌🏼
Shinkansen = very good and great design Ekiben = very good and delicious as always At the end of the video You said: "Something important is missing here" and You were absolutely right because... ...where is "Here we go :)" ???????? You can't miss so important part of Your videos :( now I'm sad :(
Your nation seems as obsessed with your trains as we in the U.K. are, but your system is so much better than ours, your trains are clean, punctual and reliable.
Oh trust me, American trains are worse... utter trash. But nearly every American has a car and Japan has massive highway tolls from what I hear, so we spend little to no money into public transportation while Japan spends a massive amount. Subways for major cities might be the exception, but not like they are equal to Japanese public transportation.
@@blktom We in the Uk are introducing tolls over much of our motorways, in a few months I will have to pay £12 every time I want to drive into London, it's called LEZ (Low Emission Zone) our world is going insane, yes, of course, I agree the environment is the top priority, but the alternative is really high train or tube (subway) fares. Either way, we are Fu*ked.
The shortest Shinkansen ride i ever did was Shin-yokohama to Tokyo, and that was cause i had a live gig to go to and i totally forgot about it and was all the way in Yokohama haha; it was just 12 minutes ! I made my concert in time :-D
I defenitely prefer scenery, whenever I travel privately. And the interior of all trains pictured in this video is simply awesome ! Thank you for posting.
Scenery or speed? The more often I travel to a given destination, the more I will tilt towards speed. For example, I don't want to see the sights on my way to work, I just want to get there and get it over with.
I love scenery over speed, depending…but I would’ve definitely made a complaint about the person taking your reservation seat. If I pay for it, I want to use it. :)
Few routes really need to go so fast - it's arguable that your travel today would have cost half as much just traveling by normal train, and only taken 15 minutes longer - depending on stops.
I could probably mack down 2 of those Bentos. Mmmm... That looked absolutely delicious! I'd have to take a nap after eating 2 Bento Boxes. Train looked clean. The shitter was clean. Nice place to go if you need.
Crap Japan is so clean and organised. What is the max speed of this train on this track... Thank you hopefully we see more of this beautifull trips Greetings from Russia
Could be worse, as displayed by the high-speed rail project in California. At least they didn't start in the middle of nowhere and plan to reach either end... eventually.
Speed or scenery? I suppose it depends on how long your journey is. If its short the time difference between the 2 is small. BUT if your journey is several hundred miles/kilometers the time difference could easily be 1 hour or more. Plus there is the question of cost. Slow & cheap or quick and expensive!?!?
I like the use of wood on the seats. It looks more friendly than plastic. I have seen on other channels how much work goes into maintaining and cleaning (inside and outside) a Shinkansen train. It makes me appreciate them even more. Safe travels!

I agree with you 100%.
Exactly!
The problem is until they get the rest of the line completed, it’s no faster than the limited express.
I'm sorry that happened with your seat. That must be frustrating as you do this as a job. You always give such great information about all of your travels though and I'm sure all of your followers are very understanding. Thank you so much for sharing your travels with us!
True. The seat being occupied was a bummer but I understand completely. I'm sure the other riders like their privacy. I still love his videos.
@@carolemerle9995 He reserved the seat. It was his seat.
Is it rude to tell people they’re in your seat in Japan?
That Ekiben looked heavenly. Two !! means it must have been really good. I love how you describe what you eat, sweet, not spicy, etc. Can't wait until I travel to your country. Thank you for this video.
I always enjoy when the !! shows on the screen when you taste something delicious. When I'm traveling for leisure, I prefer scenery over speed!
Nice! Honestly I prefer scenery over speed any day. For me getting there is half the fun. Japan has beautiful scenery! And the beef was beautiful scenery as well!
Thanks for taking us with you on this amazing trip! Love it!
The first train is from the next century [well for Australia anyway] the second train is from the last century. Great video as always my friend! xx
Love taking such beautiful and interesting trips with you. Thank you!

Everything looks so nice and clean.
She's a pretty train! Lovely trip! 🚄
I prefer sometimes speed sometimes scenery:) btw, the first train 🚆 is awesome, loved it 😊
Love your videos! I've traveled on the ferry twice because of your videos!

Noticed that the ribs on the ceiling is shaped like seagulls. A very nice touch and attention to details😁👍
Really enjoying your video's the Nagasaki station looks beautiful nice and big and modern and the shinkansen is amazing as always and the express train looks great also, wish we had that in Australia
Great short trip. Hope this line can reach Hakata in the future.
Thank you for making my week like usual...arigato
wow..amazing train

396 people (seats). Thanks

Well, not every video goes perfectly! Sometimes you get full trains and walls! Great video none the less 😊
I like how the Shinkansen in Kyushu looks like a club house, or occasionally a club house bath...
i prefer scenery to speed. i love looking out the window and seeing everything. the ekiben looked sooooo goood!!! i would've bought a couple more for the trip lol.
I should load the travel soap that's a bumblebee, for when I can't find this in the bathroom.
I've found that most bathrooms in Japan don't have soap or hand towels. Always carry a small towel or handkerchief and hand sanitizer with you. Most restroom don't have trash cans either.
That English announcement at the end in the limited express train. Sounds like something they put through some online translator lol!
I'd have also gone into a sulk if somebody had taken my booked seat, but those soundproof walls are a bummer.

Scenery when on vaccation and on a first ride, speed for business and on often taken routes..
If I visited Japan, I would prefer scenery over speed. Narrow gauge and ferry FTW!
I like speed and a quiet train, scenery is the least of my concerns.
I think I prefer scenery over speed, cause if I've got something to look at, time just passes so fast anyway...
That ekiben, I recognized pickled ginger, lotus roots, and... onion slivers?

I did this journey a few years ago and it was totally different. I love the look of the new Shinkansen and renovated station.
Does anyone know if this shinkansen is included in the JR Railpass?
Love the seagull... but nothing else to enjoy in that trip... sorry you had to "enjoy" the walls!
601st like! It's nice to see the contrast between the two trains! Speed vs. scenery depends on too many factors, but either one is usually better than walking! 😎✌🏼
Shinkansen = very good and great design

We used it last week 😅 Fukuoka to Takeo- Onsen ( with the Van ten Bosche train ) and ten with te Shinkansen :)
Hopefully the politicians in Saga can come onboard so the line can be extended to Hakata.
Hi fav was waiting for video you made my night. How are you?

i dont know if you respond but i just had a question; does it get lonely traveling solo? or is it relaxing?

Hi, did you need to buy separate tickets since you exited the station at Takeo-Onsen?
The no soap was bad, I hope that it was a mistake. The food however looked very good, I enjoyed it vicariously thru you 😸
Thank you.
Scenery.
Speed or scenery? I want both! But if just one, I'll take scenery.
I guess the walls are to reduce the noise to the people who live beside the railway, but it means you don't get scenery.
I prefer scenery! Nice trainride!
It's never too short to enjoy an ekiben! --- even if it was between one train and the next, haha!
Scenery or speed? The more often I travel to a given destination, the more I will tilt towards speed. For example, I don't want to see the sights on my way to work, I just want to get there and get it over with.

Scenery wins everytime

Always scenery over speed, unless I absolutely have to be somewhere quick, fast, and in a hurry.
And they have airplanes for the latter!

Japan is far ahead of Europe in train quality and speed
It would be nice if thay painted forest ,rivers, oceans, and mountains on the walls.
It seems like Solo Travel Japan loses or almost loses a thing every video, first it was the chopsticks from the ekiben and now it's the seat
That ekiben looks so damn delicious...
Be nice you do journey videos by renting a car so new travellers can see what cars are like and how drivers are reactive in Japan
