The reason why to be able to be a singer in the Philippines as a profession, It's not enough that you can sing. You have to be exceptional! Like why will I pay for a concert ticket for something I just can hear from random Filo stranger on the street or I myself can easily do it. The one's still in the business and successful either can belt, sounds different from the rest, can sing and perform or her voice should be crystal clear. So if you know just to sing, then that won't be enough. Singers are everywhere that's why there are a lot of singing competitions, we have abundant talents but they come and go. Check on those who have been in the business for so many years even decades and still up there performing. They are still up there for a reason.
It's not that every one here in the Philippines can sing, it's just that we don't really care that much if you really can't. We are more into having fun. Singing is part of life here. More often than not, it is entertainment in itself to hear someone out of tune. Music is life no matter the form, or in this sense... no matter the sound.
There are a lot of Filipinos who can't sing but still loves to sing especially in an inuman session. Our company janitor loves to sing while cleaning in the Comfort Room.. like sing sing... Some security guardssing out of boredom but silent like when you oass by them you hear them singing. I also can't sing but when alcohol kicks in i get the courage but not exaggerating yes there really is a lot of filipinos that can sing.
Just normal in the Philippines, Drinking session is not complete without Karaoke or guitar and singing, even out of tune, just the confidence is counted and applauded, no problem at all, Music is life. Thanks and God bless
Here in our neighborhood almost every home own a videoke machine, and we do own one too haha. In our right and left side of neighbors, they really sounds good in singing, and from our left side can even belts out Regine Velasquez, and from our right side she has a very smooth and soothing voice like Moira. But hell, if the party is going on, in our left-front neighbors, you better get your music at home volume up, if you don't want your ears get irritated😂😂😂 Their confidence in singing is just soaring up there, mygash!😂😂😂 This is just an example of living a daily local Filipino neighborhood, from a local like me😅

I can’t sing. They all knew it. But I have this 1 set of friends who really loves karaoke, with booze or w/o. So in an inuman sessions with them, they have this crazy rules that everyone should sing one by one, turn after turn, and its never ending…since they all know that I can’t sing, they will still push me to do it and guide me the entire time, yet always failed to be in tune. fake it till you make it they say, its their way to practice my singing ability, and give me songs that can suit my low and husky voice. ahaha whenever i spend time with them, im always exhausted cos of singing, and for them they feel energized cos they really loved singing. ahaha
When there's karaoke session in our neighborhood, 1 out of 7 is garbage but he's the who gets the most cheers. And the person next door sings acapella or maybe he has headsets on, but he slays south border songs.
Singing not only comes from the heart. But mostly from your ears. I use speakers like headphones back in the day and sing together with the original artist in the tract. It gets easy sounding like the original after you manage to optimize your listening skills. Same as Aang from the cartoon “Avatar”, there’s always that one/single thing that helps you master the 4 elements to become the avatar. Or in this case, sound almost like the original.
HAHAHAA its really fun if you go in one of the inuman session in philippines🤣🤣 one of my friend love to sing the higher notes song but her voice is not cooperating and she will finish the song even if she cant breath anymore🤣 well we we're just hyping her up so she will go on🤣

I don't know why but it's so fun singing in those bulky karaoke machines. My voice sounds so good to my own ears if it came from a karaoke machine and nobody around me is telling me otherwise, instead everybody be singing along, drinking and/or waiting for their song in the queue so i never felt discouraged during karaoke sessions😆Maybe it's how the echoes of my voice bounces back to my ears and it filling the space making it easier or more comfortable for me to sing? Idk the technicality but just sharing my experience hehehe

Would you believed if I tell you, on our recent vacation in the Philippines, we stayed overnight (Saturday evening thru Sunday) in the beach house and the karaoke machines did not stopped until 7:30 am and that just because the beach management staff turn off the electric power. So the night goes like this, you snooze a little bit and wake-up to the sound of the people singing the karaoke machine and on and on, welcome to the Philippines, you are not judge here by your singing prowess (sometimes do) but your willingness to sing come hell or high water.

My entire family can’t sing and I’ve got neighbors who can’t sing but it really is quite common that it’s only me who can’t hold a tune.
