Yeah, I have a Gerber like that for quite some time and it's pretty good. That sheet is awesome, you can use it on your vest, on your backpack, and on your belt, both vertically and orizontall, or even on your leg straped with a paracord.
Good list! I got all of them knives. Out of them I prefer the Terävä. I have several knives from them. You can buy them with sheath as well you know? ;) I have the leather dangler one which is excellent.
I'm an old Marine, and I still have the kabar I carried in the 70s. However I also have a Gerber Strong-arm. You're absolutely right. The strongarm is an excellent blade. It's actually better than a kabar in many ways, but my sentiments go to my kabar. It's been with me thru thick and thin and never let me down. Good video!!
i understand your relation to the KaBar! it is a cool blade, but they should get rid of the "bend" in the handle! i think they can do that and will take the Kabar to another level!!!! cheers!
@@joex I ground the top of the guard down to the grip. That allowed me to better control the blade with my thumb in Saber style grip. It made the backcut faster for me.
Allways nice too see my taste in knives is backed up by joe x science haha. I allready own the cs srk, recon tanto, and the pukko and i love them. For a buget survival knive I myselv would also recomend the condor terrasour.
The first knife that I made, in school, was made of the same steel as the jääkäri knife you got there, the blade was also made by the same guy who makes thoses knifes that varusteleka sells, proud to be finnish!
Hi Joe X I really hope you are well mate . Thanks for your list review I like the Gerber I will look to see if you did a destruction test with it . Cool Dave trogg
I'm a big fan of the terava jaakaaripukko 140 but you need to see one of my favorites budget blades the flissa 9" bushcraft knife D2 steel 20$ knife very impressive. A real work horse . Need foss has the same knife with a better sheath a little bit expensive. High recommend both. Saludos Amigo
I don't own any of the 5 you mentioned, but I do own a basic Cold Steel SRK in SK5 and it has served me well. 👍 Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers!
Pulling out that GI Tanto was totally metal 👍 What fixed and/or pocket knife to you carry the most for like cutting sh!t up with and stuff (non hunting or combat)
@QuantumMechanic_88 I have the 110. Great knife. For camping, I prefer the Jakaripuukko, but the SRK is a strong knife and good all around blade, in my opinion.
Joe, have you ever considered testing Demko Knives, model is Freereign, tanto and drop point? They look great and seem to be built like a tank. GOD bless you.
All knives belong to my collection too. 🙂 Another 5 great knives: 1) CS - Kobun (compact, versatile, japanese expresion) 2) Ruike - F118 Jager (robust drop point, 14C28N steel, great sheath). 3) SOG - Seal Pup (nice combo edge, great ergos, beautiful clip point) 4) CS - Tanto Lite or Outdoorsman Lite (tough 4116 steel, lenght of the Ka-Bar, extremely cheap) 5) CS - True Flight Thrower (for throwing, for very hard use, extremely cheap)
@@joex Maybe not as a dedicated survival blade you want to rely on, but as a beater bushcraft knife you want to use to practice survival techniques. A beginner doesn't want to buy a nice knife and then fuck it up.
I've modified my GI tanto to drop point , beat the crap out of it, still alive and kicking 😁. I also love bushcraft series from CS, great tool, could be used as improvised spear, can't go wrong with srk or srkC, but you did forget about cheapest nearly indestructible knife; mora robust.
Why not just buy the Terava Jakaaripuuka with one of the sheaths offered? Either the leather or the Bolteron? Though the Bolteron doesn't have a clip or loop and you need to buy something or use paracord to attach it. The holes are spaced in what has become the industry standard though. So the Bladetech and Safariland clips as well as the knockoffs will fit. Including that, where would it have placed?
for the cold steel gi tanto you should try to get one of the old ones they were much better made the ones with the white lettering suck get the older one the lettering is black if you can I think you would like it better
Why you didnt put mora garberg there? Whats your opinion compared to this others? I own a lot of knifes SAK hunter, SAK workchamp, Moras Garberg 1/O, fiskars knife, bahco knife, some special sailors with marlin spike, fiskars x7 hatchet, etc.. but for only 1 tool emergency or survival i will trust the garberg the most if i dont count my hatchet😅
Wenn man die Messerscheiden bei der Budget Bewertung ausser acht lassen würde und rein das Messer beurteilt, denke ich dass schon alleine von der Stahlqualität her das Jäkääripuukko auf platz 1 wäre
Too many options in the Gerber's price range to name it number one. Especially when 420hc is the steel. That's not to say that it isn't an excellent value which would serve the user well. There are SO MANY good knives available at a reasonable price. After all, as you know, they all will break if abused enough. Thanks for your opinions.
I hope you're fine. Ok ok, On me everyday I have: Eka Swede 8 wood handle folding knife(for wood cutting, survival bushcraft), Civivi Cogent G10 natural folding knife(slicing cardboard, tarps & in neck & leg=blade wouldn't brake), Leatherman Juice CS4 blue multifonction tools(for pliers, scissors). If I go in forest: same Leatheman, Morakniv Companion HD OD green carbon(bushcraft, hunting), Morakniv Pathfinder with strong modified wood handle taking 1cm more in the blade for not to break & custom Scandinavian traditional shealth(bushcraft, hunting, defense/offense). :)
