    Definitely a rough way to finish but the fights leading up to it show clear improvements!

      I've honestly thought about rebuilding the very first version of Cheesecake, and then having it fight the latest version for comparison to showcase the improvements. That could be really funny.

    I competed with Up Ya Go in the beetles and that floor seam gave me a tough time too. I almost lost a fight because I got stuck in them

    The smaller weapon was definitely more effective, but it seems that the smaller reach makes it quite a bit more likely for other bots to hit your chassis. Perhaps changing the pivot of the bot further back by moving the wheels and maybe heavier parts if possible will extend the weapon further from the pivot point and extend your range, mitigating this issue.

    lol, I like bocchi (bow-chee) the bot. the color scheme and name is in reference to an anime. Nice video! love to see the progression and continued developments of projects like these.

    just a fan of combat robots, but curious about the pits (you dont see them covered on NHRL or other sites much) would some colored nail polish, tags, zip ties, heatshrink on the wire harnesses make it easier to quicly change and replace parts w/ less risk of mixup?

    • @alexsalchemy
      @alexsalchemy  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh yes, my latest design is much more internally organized, with just enough color coding to ensure I plug the battery into the right place.

    A little trik-o-filing... Floor Seams. Radius the low lip of any contact plate/piece/spin-blade and Glide over, instead of getting hung-up.

    Sir, I've been watching little Cheesecake toil endless opponents for about an hour now, learning a little about your bot in the process. I see you're using a Skywalker 3S ESC, (finally, I've been curious) to pair up with your 1800kv motor. You'd surely be able to save quite a few grams were you to swap it for a BL-Heli_S or BL-Heli_32 ESC, while gaining some awesome programmability over the power delivery. You probably don't use the Skywalker's BEC, so it's just generating heat and wasting space anyway (the ESCs I speak of don't have 5V outputs). Besides, the quad-style ESC's are cheaper, too

    • @alexsalchemy
      @alexsalchemy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for being such a loyal fan! I'm actually using this ESC linked below, which uses the BL-Heli_S firmware, and is pretty light and small.

    Re: air resistance. Could you taper the edge if your spinner, even a little. Like a knife blade without losing too much structural strength

    • @alexsalchemy
      @alexsalchemy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about it, but it would be very hard to manufacture, and I kind of need that square shape to really bite into opponents on the tip anyway.

  • @SpiderWaffle
    @SpiderWaffle ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Could you print some components with chetaflex maybe?
    I'd try add some more shock absorbing material to more components. Thin layers of semi-hard rubber maybe, you want to dampen the acceleration curve of the BIG hits, too soft and it will bottom out too easily on the big ones.

    • @RennieAsh
      @RennieAsh ปีที่แล้ว

    • @SpiderWaffle
      @SpiderWaffle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RennieAsh Yes, and ME degree :D.
      I've always been a big proponent of shock absorption. Around 50% of critical failures arise from the inside of robots vs external mechanical failures.

    Nice work! What options are you considering for upgrading the motor mounts? Would TPU work?

    • @alexsalchemy
      @alexsalchemy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thought about using TPU for the motor mounts, but there are two embedded locknuts in each mount which allow me to bolt them to the frame, and I think TPU would be too squishy to keep those nuts from rotating as I tighten the mounting screws into them. Good idea though, maybe an alternative mounting strategy would allow me to use TPU for these parts.
