Infinite is known for their unique sound and style and how most of their songs include rock and/or brass and classical string instruments as part of their signature orchestral sound. It's said that you can tell it's an Infinite song just by the sound and style of the song within the first few seconds because Infinite songs are different than all other Kpop songs. There is always an element of the sound of their songs that makes them stand out.
However, as you noticed, "New Emotions," which is the second to last song they sang on Killing Voice, has a sound unlike anything they have done in the past. Although the members said they were nervous to try something new, that is unlike what they are most known for, I think it also helps to establish their fresh start as newly independent artists who are free to decide their own path from here on out. Although with their B-side songs on their new album you will hear more of their signature style and sound, so they still stay true to what makes them uniquely Infinite.
The songs in order of performance are: "Comeback Again"; "Be Mine"; "Paradise"; "Can You Smile"; "Tic Toc"; "Nothing's Over"; "Man In Love"; "Cover Girl"; "Julia"; "That Summer"; "BTD (Before The Dawn)"; "The Chaser"; "Bad"; "The Eye"; "Tell Me"; "New Emotions"; and "Together".
Infinite originally was a Woollim Entertainment group that debuted in 2010 (second gen.) -- 2 years after SHINee -- so this year is their 13th anniversary. They were originally a 7-member group. However, as you can see, they now have 6 members. (Hoya, who was their main dancer and considered one of the top dancers in Kpop, as well as a lead vocalist and rapper, left Infinite in 2017, and now he's a solo artist/dancer, etc.)
First generation is anyone who debuted from 1996-2000, 2nd gen. is anyone who debuted from about 2001-2011, 3rd gen. is anyone who debuted from 2012-2018 and 4th gen. began around 2019 to present. A generation is about a decade, give or take a year or so.
As you just saw Infinite has finally made a comeback after 5 years, after all the members have completed their military duties and they have now established their own company. "New Emotions" is their first comeback after becoming independent, which is why they were on Killing Voice because they are promoting their 13egin album.
In this Killing Voice performance from left to right:
> SungJong, who is the maknae, is the member who often stands out with his pretty voice. He is known for his delicate features and his unique voice. (He is recognized for his high melodic vocal ability and dynamic range, similar to Jun from Seventeen.) He just debuted as a solo artist earlier this year, as well.
> DongWoo is Infinite's main rapper, main dancer and lead vocalist. He is also a musical stage actor and a songwriter and solo artist.
> Sungkyu, who is a main vocalist, is the leader of the group. He was the first of the members to debut solo back in 2012 and he is also a musical stage actor.
> L (Kim Myungsoo) is a lead vocalist. In the past he was most often the main character in Infinite's story-based MVs because he is one of the top Idol actors who has been in numerous K-dramas and movies. L is really good at showing emotion and immersing himself into every role he plays to make you believe his every emotion is exactly how he really feels and everything that happens to him is real. He is one of my favorite K-drama actors.
> Nam Woohyun is a main vocalist and the one that usually has the powerful vocals in Infinite's songs. (He was the one with that run that you wondered who was doing that.) He is also a solo artist and an actor in K-dramas, movies and musicals.
Fun fact: Woohyun is good friends with SHINee's Key -- from SM Entertainment -- and together they formed the industry's very first project group that had members from different companies, called ToHeart in 2014. (ToHeart has a couple of MVs and a mini album.)
> Sungyeol is a lead vocalist. He has also been an actor in dramas since before debuting with Infinite.
Not only is Infinite known as a vocal powerhouse group, but they are also highly respected for their dancing and, like SHINee, they are recognized for being able to sing live while dancing intense choreography.
They are known for being one of the first groups to focus on making their choreography hyper synchronized and they have been coined with the phrase "knife-like synchronization." Infinite -- along with SHINee -- is one of the groups that is credited with changing the focus of dancing within the Kpop industry. If it wasn't for SHINee and Infinite, upping the game and showing everyone that it was possible to have sharp synchronized dance moves while singing live and being able to pull it off flawlessly, the industry would probably be a lot different today.
Those subs were not entirely accurate because they were auto-generated. Infinite's fans are called Inspirit.
And the reason why those English subs look like gibberish most of the time is because there are no English subs on this video. If you click on the CC button and it says "English (Auto-generated)," this means these are subs that are designed for the hearing impaired and they only work on videos where they are speaking English. The way auto generated subs work is the computer listens to what is being said in the audio on the video and it attempts to interpret what is being said in English. Therefore, on a video like this where they are speaking in Korean most of the time, the computer is trying to find English words that sound like the Korean words that it hears, it's not translating the Korean into English. The only time the subs are correct is when there is an English word or line in the lyrics or they say something in English.
And if you are using auto translate, those subs are usually only correct about 10% of the time because the computer has to try and decipher slang, it has to pick up on different accents and how a person annunciates words, and it makes it work even harder to understand things when they are speaking more than one language or English words with Korean pronunciations, etc. (You're better off just turning the subs off.)
However, if you were to click on the CC button and it just says "English," this means either the company or a fan has taken the time to translate what they are saying in Korean, or whatever language they are speaking, into English.
Thank you for the wealth of information and for watching! It seems generations are getting shorter because 5th gen is already starting, though it feels like that's just because different people want their groups to be distinguished as "first" in something. Groups like Riize, zerobaseone, ILLIT, XG, etc are being coined as 5th gen.
As for the subtitles, yea I know they're not entirely accurate and how they work haha. That's why I didn't try to do any lyric breakdowns. If you see any of my other videos you'll notice I like to breakdown things like lyrics, musicality, cinematography, choreo, etc...at least on music videos. But with killing voice I don't try much at all since I know it won't be correct.

Loving this reaction because the way you love Dongwoo (rap demon, absolute dancer, hype man, vocalist, harmonizer, resident funny guy) right off the bat for his all-roundedness was such a pleasure to watch. This is the exact reason why he is my bias in Infinite. There are no words to describe Dongwoo because he is eveything! This reaction might have been months ago but I'm glad I eventually got here. Dongwoo does have solos and he did part-songwriting with former member/rapper Hoya in the outfit Infinite H(ip-hop) which is also worth checking out!

Infinite have been together so long they just know what there doing . My favourite is Woohyun the one in the Blue and white he to me has the best vocals. You liked Dongwoo our main rapper and vocalist but to me there all great . We’re just so glad there finally back

The rapper is Dongwoo and he is also a main dancer. In fact, he has written songs in the Infinite H subunit that he formed with the former member of the group (Hoya) and he also wrote the raps for some Infinite songs.
The main vocalists are Sunggyu (the one in white) and Woohyun (blue sweater), generally Woohyun has his high notes in the second half of the song so his versatility is not appreciated in the video. Sunggyu is the leader and also has the Killing Voice of him.
The one in the blue shirt is Myungsoo, he is the visual one, but really, over the years, his vocal quality has improved a lot. Nowadays, he can also be considered a main vocalist.
The one with a particular voice is Sungjong and he is the maknae of the group.
The member of the light blue shirt is Sungyeol and he is currently a rapper and vocalist. Before, he and Sungjong were not given much opportunity to sing, however now that has improved and they are both excellent vocalists.
Awesome! Thank you for the info. So Dungwoo is my boy, got it! And that figures, OF COURSE he has actually written music LOL. They all have good vocals but of the group, I can tell Sungyeol (if I'm reading that order right) is the least polished. Still good but it was clear he wasn't a singer first, especially since in the earlier songs on the timeline he didn't get much focus.

The vocal that you like so much belongs to the leader of Infinite (and CEO of the Infinite Company) Kim Sunggyu who has his own Killing Voice episode, he filmed it in one go. 😊 The multitalented guy that you noticed is Jang Dongwoo, a rapper, dancer, soloist, songwriter, musical actor and sunshine in a human form. He debuted as a soloist with songs News and Party girl and also has a great discography as part of Infinite H with Hoya (Special girly, Pretty) who is same as him - rapper, dancer, vocalist with solo career, songwriter, actor and musical actor. Frankly, all members of Infinite, including former member Hoya, are incredibly talented. Thank you so much for your reaction, I enjoyed it. Well, in a way I did because I read that the group name was given to him without restriction for his birthday within the past couple of yrs but I didn't realize that's who Sunggyu was. @@chels3983 I got the 7th EP, 13gin. First thing I noticed when unboxing was that it had a very nice, almost luxury feel to the packaging. I also loved what they did with it in the sense of their member photobooks. Instead of having one large book with all the pictures, each member had their own separate book. It's much more convenient for storage and, if you're someone who truly has one or two favorite members, it's a cool way to be able to only keep the ones you really want. I wish other groups would do this as well.
I would've bought one or two more but that was the only one the kpop store had in stock :(

If you liked Dongwoo's rap, I'd recommend listening to his song Gun! It's a much more intense rap than he does in group songs.

We know we will never truly know celebrities’ true personality based on that fraction of their life we see on screen but I’ve never been this convinced of how genuine and endearing his personality really is. Just the softest of guy. When the ex member Hoya decided to pursue his dream outside of infinite, as his fellow rapper/dancer, it hit him the hardest. His sadness was harder for me than hoya’s actual departure.

For dongwoo, a guy whose original background is in dance, made a rapper in infinite and with a lovely voice to top, I cant be more proud. Some of the panelists were convinced he’s an actual soloist singer (as opposed to an idol singer).

I love each of them has a different singing tone (Sungyeol, the one at the far right, sadly not be given many chances to develop his voice, but hes still decent) that when comes together sound like, a many layered cake with bursting flavors

Dude, you should do some kpop throwback reactions. There are a lot of undiscovered gems from the past, so hopefully you will consider the suggestion. As for INFINITE, you should react to a handful of the songs you heard. Maybe start a series dedicated to an artist for an "x amount" of days (like 7 days or 2 weeks)? I know another K-pop youtuber that does something like that
Thank you for the suggestion. I'll definitely consider it. Because of how infrequently I get time to record and how often new stuff keeps coming out, it's hard to commit to that type of thing but it's definitely worth consideration! What would be more likely, at least for me and my channel for the foreseeable future, is something where maybe I put a poll up and let people vote on a group to do that with and maybe it would be a patreon thing...I dunno. I'll have to see. If I do something like that though I would have to shut requests down for awhile since I wouldn't want to give up reacting to the new stuff that I'm already invested in.
