I'm down in ol' San Antonio. I'm an Episcopal priest and chaplain at an Episcopal high school here. Keith Ward is a philosophical hero of mine, so I'm glad you post so much of his stuff. He has a 6 part lecture on the history of Christian theology as Gresham college, so if you ever get around to posting all of them, I would definitely bookmark it! Keep up the good work sir. We need a revival of philosophically rigorous yet socially inclusive and justice seeking spirituality in our divided world!
The problem with not having any basic doctrinal commitment is that it weakens the church. Usually the Apostle's Creed has been regarded as the core statement of Christian orthodoxy, including the virgin birth and the risen Christ as the ultimate judge of the living and the dead. If this man does not believe in this, he is not a Christian in the sense in which that term has been understood for 2000 years.
I admire Dr Ward's open view of Christianity, but, and that is a very big "But" Belief in Jesus, The Christ, as The Only Way: The Singular Wholly Man&God Who has the absolute power to defeat Satan and Death, by humbly dying and carrying our sins to Hades for us forever, because as God, he created time and therefor was not restrained by it; escaping Hades and death to return to life along with any human who believes The Apostles Creed clearly and succinctly speaks that belief. Still, if we wish to call ourselves Christian in truth, acceptable to God, we must be seekers and knockers on doors -- Evangelism seems to be a part of that , and love of our fellow human beings another part among all that we should be seeking. -- the "effort" sort of sums it up, but deeper understanding is what we are here in this short existence for.learning of God and His Way and Perfect Plan.

My OpenMind - would you mind expounding just a bit more to the point you made. Thank you
To use a popular idiom . This scholar is " right on the money " theologically speaking .

Change: Jesus, apostles, St. Paul, Constantine, iconoclasm, east-west schism, Reformation, fundamentalism

Anyone who has studied the human mind will understand that the semblance of revelation can be explained at the level of psychology.
