It's such a forgettable weapon even doom eternal forgot it existed. i only ever use it to shoot barrels and to snipe the background enemies, and the gauss cannon does the later much better. Basically every second of Doom 16 is incredible, but I think the best part is the first time you step foot into hell. You are the only human in the plane of ultimate evil. One versus uncountable billions of vile monsters. And what is the response from these creatures? A warning. To their own. "He is here."

They are actually trying. See their latest trailer with the rap music. Seems like ruining their profitable franchises is how they roll this days. I wished id soft had remained independent, but at least they are mostly left alone by Bethesda, unlike Blizzard which was raped completely by Activision.
@@n00bers38 You mean the bomb would have clipped through the floor and it go off out of bounds, missing a trigger for progression and the Bethesda just call it quits until some guy in the terrorist community would have to spend a week making a patch on nexusmod.
I am afraid of one thing though, apparently Bethesda will require players to create a Bethesda account to play Doom Eternal on Steam, which is ridiculous for a single-player campaign. Just so they could harvest and profit off your personal data. EA is usually considered by many to be the most scummy game company out there, but Bethesda gets closer to that everyday.
I laughed out loud in my cubicle when I saw that and I had to back up so my coworkers could see it too. The little finger-wiggle-fadeaway that he does afterwards is just too good. It's little things like that, and the last-second Vega backup, that kinda remind the player that the Doom Slayer is at least a little bit human behind the facepunching and techno-armor.
So many of his actions are super nuanced like when he “disables” the first argent energy processor, he does actually look at it for a few seconds, sort of confused and then you can tell when he gets fed up and just says fuck it and breaks it. He provides more character in his movements then most characters do with words.
@@PurddyBirddy I feel like that pause is him being like. "Damn humans. I'm always cleaning up your messes. Using damn hell energy, will they never learn *then proceeds to beat the shit out of all technology*"

I remember laughing as he just destroys it while Hayden is telling him how to carefully take it apart. He thought about it for a second and just thought destroying it was easier.
@@WarlockX4 He just went "hmm.....can I just do one thing to remove it? No? Bah, fuck it, I don't have time to play surgeon." _Proceeds to smash the filter._
it’s even better when you know he was doing that just to fuck with hayden. well, that, and because argent is kinda made from *the souls of the innocent*
He comes across as angry and eager for a rematch, but he's clearly not dumb either. When he grabs the Slayer and throws him into the arena, the Slayer goes sliding backwards on his feet with his fists up, and it felt to me like a mutual understanding that the Cyberdemon is the underdog. Despite reaching forward and grabbing the Slayer and being much bigger than him, the Cyberdemon IMMEDIATELY throws him as far away as possible because he doesn't want the Slayer anywhere close. Cyberdemon's like "Gonna lock him in here but I gotta get him the hell away from me quick" and the Slayer isn't fazed and doesn't even lose his balance.
The best part of that mission is when he actually stops wrecking one of them to listen to hayden, only to realize hayden is full of shit and smash it anyway.
Doomguy actually seems pretty smart, at least smarter than i'd expect an extremely violence driven man to be. There's varying things he does that shows (at least hints) he has the brain capacity to know what's going on, or at least know what's valuable to him NOT smashed or crushed to bits. For instance, he carefully takes out the Elite Guards (forget what they're called) Preator Implants (don't know if that's what they are called) whenever he finds them. He also doesn't bash open control panels all the time, though that might be because he's just calmed down for a bit since he's usually killed a bunch of demons prior to interacting with them.
@@Manglet762 no you're right. Because he's Human he understands some UAC technology but he recognizes what makes demons and what he needs to keep around. That's why he kept VEGA he knew the AI would be more useful later and so he backed it up and kept it now it's in his Fortress
The hilarious thing is the actual player model in the game is just a pair of legs depending on what stance is chosen for how the weapons are held it’s also just arms in front of it

Fun Fact: The first thing you do in Doom 2016 is kill everyone in the room and then put your pants on. I feel like knowing that enhances all these badass memes.

One of my favorite things about this game was, ironically, the lore. The codex entries you find everywhere are very well written, and are actually really interesting if you sit down to actually read them.
That system is based on the terminals from Marathon except unlike Marathon, you can take them with you instead of having to read them where you find them. I like to think that's Doom learning lessons Marathon taught it while Marathon itself...continues to merely wallow in 1996 because its only sourceport, Aleph One is jankier than the Build engine and the only decent level editor is deliberately left incomplete because its makers are too lazy to add a 3D height adjustment/texturing mode like both the original Forge engine had as well as every decent modern 2.5D level editor and their cat. You need a special script just to jump in Aleph One and there's still no crouching either. The jump script isn't even a plugin: but a raw LUA that can only be used in the engine's single solo script slot, so when you want to use something more suitable for that slot like the co-op script or PSI blast, you have to sacrifice them just to use a feature that Aleph One should have had in the engine by default in the first fucking place like other sourceports such as GZ Doom or Eduke32. It's particularly jarring when you consider that Damage Incorporated, a later game on the Marathon 2 engine, had jump and crouch controls by default without sourceports.
@Nathaniel Grauel And in this corner, we have a troll. Marathon is good, actually. It's both the sourceport and the shit OS it was originally developed for which isn't up to scratch. It's a similar idea to Rise of the Triad sourceport wise. Go play the games on Windows all the way to the end and see for yourself. Then try some of the mods like Eternal X (no relation to Doom Eternal). You might just be surprised. alephone.lhowon.org/scenarios.html#more simplici7y.com/items/aleph-one-pathways-into-darkness You may also need this: simplici7y.com/items/jump-script Besides, I grew up with Halo 1 and Half Life. I never played Marathon until it finally came out on Aleph One for Windows in 2012. On top of that, I am indeed ashamed to admit better games have since surpassed it like Brutal Doom Extermination day, Hedon and Ion Maiden. That does not make it a bad game however, considering it has a better engine than vanilla Doom and a damn good story. (keyword when referring to the Doom engine: vanilla)

Lugbzurg Clearly, the HDoom mod remains within reason due to Rule 34 of the Internet, which doesn’t require repeating. Since Doom 2016 remains a game provided to the masses via the Internet (digital copy), that means, in this regard, Rule 34 exists of Doom 2016. Since the Doom Slayer could be the original Doom Guy cause, and I quote, “Why not?”, this leads us to believe that, via HDoom remaining a mod of the original Doom title, HDoom remains an extension of Doom 2016 Rule 34. The cool thing about the BFG rays is that they do damage on every FRAME they attack an enemy. That means the higher your frame rate, the more damage the BFG does.
If you get the weapon wheel up it slows the game right down while you choose a weapon, so if you get weapon wheel up while the BFG green fireball thing is hanging in the air it carries on doing damage all the time the game is slowed down.

All the codex entries are actually really entertaining and well written, and while the slayer may not care about the reasons for the story, the player has a lot of reason to, especially how some of the codexes implies that the doom slayer is the doom guy after an eternity of demon slaying

The most obvious is if you went underwater the music would change to have a slightly muffled but dreamy tone to it, or if you were around certain enemies or characters it would also change to fit with said enemy/character.

With that being said, the first two video games that I had ever played in my life where the original super Mario Brothers and Duke nukem 3D. Followed by Doom 2 and then doom 1. After my early gaming years I primarily played sports games and platformers. By high School I was mostly playing RPGs. I liked call of duty but something never felt quite right. Eventually after high School I got a PC. At some point after that doom 2016 ended up in my steam cart. After that the adrenaline addiction never stopped. from there I went to Doom eternal to Doom 3, Duke nukem 3D again, quake, blood and dusk. The point I'm trying to make. is it made me consider a genre I had long forgotten about. more so in how it makes you feel then what it does mechanically. And that's priceless.

The part where doomguy looks at the corpse, and punched the monitor is the most poignant for me. It shows that not only is doomslayer pissed because he hates demons, but because he knew that he could have saved all those people if he would have been woken up a few days, nay, a few *HOURS* before the initial demon invasion.
Seeing doom guy fist bump a little action figure of himself is really cute and I love it.

HE KILLED MY CYBERDEMON FAMILY
It’s my personal favorite fight in the game.
Weak?? I never beat him lmao
12:25 To Doom Slayer's credit he DID at least look for some kind of off button/switch before resorting to smashing it to pieces.
I think he was looking for where best to smash it to destroy it
The best part of that mission is when he actually stops wrecking one of them to listen to hayden, only to realize hayden is full of shit and smash it anyway.
No, no, not smashing, rip and tearing

One of my favorite things about this game was, ironically, the lore. The codex entries you find everywhere are very well written, and are actually really interesting if you sit down to actually read them.
The revenant codex almost got me in chills man
That system is based on the terminals from Marathon except unlike Marathon, you can take them with you instead of having to read them where you find them.
You might just be surprised. alephone.lhowon.org/scenarios.html#more

Very few games actually use the approach that DOOM 2016 did, because of how you have to write the music itself to be able to have it smooth slide from one piece and pace to another. The cool thing about the BFG rays is that they do damage on every FRAME they attack an enemy. That means the higher your frame rate, the more damage the BFG does.
doom 2016 is technically pay to win
If you get the weapon wheel up it slows the game right down while you choose a weapon, so if you get weapon wheel up while the BFG green fireball thing is hanging in the air it carries on doing damage all the time the game is slowed down.
I don't think that's correct, sounds like a mechanic that might happen in a 16bit game, lol. I played this at 60fps on an xb1x then at 240fps on PC, can't say I noticed a 4x damage improvement with bfg, but TBH everything usually just melts anyway so u might be right but doesn't really give any true advantage, just nice trivia I guess if true, but sounds like something that might have been true vs 1.0 then patched out, unless intended.

Doom '16 was a great game, especially the campaign. Doom Eternal.. not so much.
