As a Deadhead of some 52 years, and veteran over 100 shows, THIS is the nicest solo cover of Ripple I've heard. Would love to hear you do Box of Rain. Thanks and Dead Ahead!
Trey it's me again i,I, still listing to you songs you. Talk in your about a cup not mad with hands that cup is filled with jesus blood for us all that will come and except him into our lives .and be our lord and saviour.please sing more song about our lord .love your picking and singing. The lord loves you and is with you. Keep singing.
First time I heard this gent was on Outlaw Country in an interview with Buddy and Jim a couple of years ago. They played music in between questions and one of the songs was " Friend of the Devil ". My snobby Deadhead attitude was about to kick in and before I could start being full of myself... I heard their intro of the song and was blown away. And now hearing and seeing the guitar work here, on Ripple... Well, I'm going to have to find my Ouija Board and tell Jerry his music is in good hands.
Trey I listen to you all the time I love you your music. You are prescuss keep up the good work. You still look just like my grandson he was thirty one years old got some bad herrion and died a month ago from that I think of him when I look at you. My daddy was a hensley from North Carolina. Love you. Keep singing. I would miss it if you went away thanks
I herd the original to this song and I really enjoy the way you portray this song. I feel it In my veins and in my bones the way you sing this. My voice is so similar to yours and I play it at least 10 times a day. You are truley an inspiration to my travels in life. May God bless you and bless you through out your journey, I'm just here for the ride! Keep trucking my freind.
Great rendition and interpretation with smooth playing. Ripple comes as close to being a perfect song; it makes me smile, weep and gives me hope all at the same time. Also, how much bourbon do I need to drink so my voice picks up a vibrato like yours? ;) ;)
I have listened to this at least a couple dozen times today. Besides being awesome there was something mysterious about it and it finally hit me, and trust me, this is a complement, but I can absolutely pick up on a Charlie Waller vibe in both your voice and your guitar on this song. Just amazing. Mark Evans
Gilstrap2009 I really appreciate that, Mark! Charlie is one of my biggest influences and hearing him play was one of the main reasons I started playing guitar in the first place, so I sure appreciate the comparison! 😀
If anyone wants the lyrics, i have posted them below ⬇️. If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung, Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken, Perhaps they're better left unsung. I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air. Ripple in still water, When there is no pebble tossed, Nor wind to blow. Reach out your hand if your cup be empty, If your cup is full may it be again, Let it be known there is a fountain, That was not made by the hands of men. There is a road, no simple highway, Between the dawn and the dark of night, And if you go no one may follow, That path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, When there is no pebble tossed, Nor wind to blow. You, who choose to lead, must follow But if you fall you fall alone. If you should stand then who's to guide you? If I knew the way I would take you home. La dee da da da, La da da da da, Da da da, da da, da da da da da La da da da, La da da, da da, La da da da, La da, da da.
do you use lighter gauge strings? I always hear a kind of shimmer in your picking - or do you think you have a heavier hand? My dream is to become a Bourgeois man like you!
@@TreyAHensley Holy hell MEDIUMS?? You are a monster picker! Have you thought about using a better microphone for your videos? Your voice is too rich to be properly captured w/ a PC or laptop microphone!
Trey Hensley's cover of the Grateful Dead's Ripple. It has to be one of the best covers that I've ever heard by a solo artist.

I'd be there for a dead album!
My favorite "Dead" song, and you did it wonderfully!!
Jerry would be proud.
That beautiful voice gives me goosebumps

Any chance in hell for Dire Wolf Cover Trey?
I was kinda hoping some beautiful soul had typed out the words for this classic 😢

Frasereder236 I use medium gauge D’Addario Nickel Bronze Strings and I do have a pretty heavy hand. I’ve always played too hard. haha!

Well done. If you don’t mind me asking, what brand of guitar is that?
Thank you very much! That’s a Bourgeois slope D35 guitar. Thanks again!

The talent in the guitar ok. But to have that voice too? Kinda unfair bro😀
A little too fast
Not if you change the playback speed to 25%!
Joseph,he made this song his own.
